hello!!!! i LOVE your analysis, i think it gives such a breath of fresh air into the theorycrafting surrounding classpects that has been sorely missing for quite some time!! for my question, i’m wondering if you could delineate between rogues and sylphs? both seem to be helping hands to the party who provide their aspect to the group and wish to be appreciated for it. i believe in “traditional” classpect theory the difference is that sylphs create their aspect while rogues steal it from somewhere else, is that the same here? thank you so much!!!

I have no idea what traditional classpect theory is and am immediately suspicious. /squints
Rogues and Sylphs share the paggro thing but Rogues are the Maestros of it. And Sylphs are much more dramatic in their operation. The way they operate is more rooted in the utility of their aspect, if that makes sense? Use instead of supply.
Also not to be mean to Rogues but Sylphs are more mature. I feel like a good sign of Sylphdom is if you matured very early, very rapidly. If you got told “you’re so mature for your age” and didn’t wind up being a basketcase with huge emotional issues to work out later, you’re definitely a Sylph.
I also feel like Sylphs figure out themselves much faster than Rogues do. Again, maturity thing, but a Sylph’s primary conflict is probably not internal but external. But that self-certainty they have can lead to fucking things up or overreacting.
Meanwhile a Rogue has a lot more internal shit to work through and that’s part of their arc, arguably. Looking at our selection of players of each class, I feel fairly confident in saying the Rogue’s main antagonist is a lack of emotional fulfillment inside themselves.

when i read the page for maids i sort of got the vibe of- and i mean this in the KINDEST way possible- disney princess, specifically like cinderella. someone who in theory has what they need to be content, who does the work asked of them, but yearns for something more because what they Have is actually making them Miserable. and thats very interesting to me. that's all, thank you for this theory it RIPS. i was making a spreadsheet as classpect sparknotes and your essays made me retool half of it
My original blueprint for my understanding of classes came from an old friend who pitched all of them as specific character archetypes. I wonder if I can still find that……

maid: the survivor, the character who’s been through hell at the start of their arc and then rises above it
page: the secretly clever ingenue
mage: the mad scientist
knight: the jerk with the heart of gold
rogue: the upbeat team player, the robin hood, all about the team
sylph: the fixers, they see a situation that is broken and immediately think they can improve it either with their knowledge or they can get the necessary knowledge
seer: the wizard, deals knowledge out, tends to kickstart the story
thief: the devilish, mercurial trickster with depths of vulnerability
heir: the fool, the eccentric hero with strange charisma
bard: the dangerous, changeable wild card
prince: the emotionally distant damaged one longing for closeness, either rises above or shatters
witch: the sweetheart with the iron core
now as you may be able to tell I don’t completely agree with all of these anymore and have iterated on them a lot, but they were a starting point on how i thought about classes. there is a reason the write-ups continously frame the world as Game Or Stage, because class to me is entirely your character arc in a story.

sylph and heir are pretty wildly different so to me it’s honestly that easy
have never gotten into homestuck, read a bit a few years back but the website forgot where I was so I gave up, BUT a friend sent me ur blog and told me to assign myself a classpect and I followed u and I love being here now :D

i usually say i'm a knight of heart (partially cause i like the concept of it best, partially because it sounds cool, partially because it fits, and partially because i feel like most classpects could fit me) but lowkey is there a classpect for 'i can relate to almost any of these because i grew up with little to no sense of identity'? i'd say one of the few aspects i can't rlly relate to is life but who knows if i did more research into it lol
Heart peeps have the strongest sense of personal identity, anon. They’re just very good at code switching. The aspect you’re thinking of is perhaps Breath. Or Mind if the whole idea seems silly to you.
