In a world where Alternia has colonized Earth into a lush vacation planet, resident gardener Jake and house courtesan Dirk strike up a relationship among post-invasion humanity.
So here’s my contribution to the 52stuck project, Equius as the King of Diamonds. Of course I’m always down to draw a Homestuck character decked out like royalty, so that was my natural course of action with a prompt like that.

DM: hey guys just a quick email. I was wondering if you would tell me what you had in mind for this game coming up, and where you see your characters going? thanks
John Darnielle, lead singer of the mountain goats: I don’t know. I’m learning about the character as we roleplay the character. And so I don’t have a plan. I find out in play where it’s going. And that’s what I do, I sort of, for me I think some of the thrill of the final piece, is that you can hear that the writer was going somewhere, but also didn’t have a plan he was laying out—me—you know, that I was laying out. That there was a growth happening.
“after one long season of waiting, after one long season of wanting, i am breaking open. my insides are pink and raw. and it hurts me when i move my jaw, but i am taking tiny steps forward. and i… i feel sure that my wounds will heal. and i, i will bloom here in my room. with a little water. and a little bit of sunlight. and a little bit of tender mercy, tender mercy.”
this song got me through so many scary days. sad, sick, spooky days when i felt like all my raw wounds were gonna bleed forever. i would float on my back in the swimming pool and hum this to myself. it softened the rough edges.

When you write a monologue for your character and you get super emotionally invested in the emotion and the voice and the plight of the scene but then you’ve got to look up from the screen and readjust yourself to reality with a weird empty feeling in your gut.
Not to generalize but I really do think 99% of late millenial problems and childhood grief and nostalgia are caused by the rise of the internet age. Imagine getting toys for Christmas and having them technologically outdated by the next Christmas. Imagine going from CDs to MP3s to iPods to paying a monthly service to access music you no longer need to own within the span of your school career. All generations carry a deep thirst for a supposed simpler time but millennials were the first generation to have their childhoods genuinely, pitifully outdated and nigh nonexistent by the time they graduated. That shit’ll fuck you up. That shit’ll send you scrambling for a nostalgic compress in any form it will take. That shit’ll make you shell out a solid $10 for a pleasantly decent Jumanji remake. Catch me getting high on nickelodeon gak in the streets just to feel alive again. Anytime, anywhere.
You think it’s sort of ironic that on the very anniversary of him dying for all of you, his dreams are peaceful.
You think he would find that funny. You wont tell him that.
You’re careful not to wake him, fingertips gentle against the scars on Dirks neck. But that was a might scare, you know? Dirk literally losing his head, and think of the last conversation you would’ve shared with him?
The last words you would’ve exchanged.
What a damned stupid fool you were.
But then, he would say something similar about himself, wouldn’t he?
Of course you’re gosh darned fucking grateful to have him safe in your bed. What a scare. You thank your lucky stars that Dave was there to help him. Something you’re still working on after all these years. You’re helping one another now, you’re recovering together.
You need him like he needs you. And that’s enough.
I love old Forensic Files because most of the 1990s murder cases that involve a computer also involve someone who doesn’t know shit about how computers work because it’s the 90s and 98% of the time the police open up the suspect’s computer and there’s an email that Murder McJackass has composed to his Hot Online Girlfriend that straight up says “hey marsha. kind of feel like killing my wife today” hastily shoved into the trash can without even an attempt to empty it or damage the hard drive or wipe the data and then McJackass is there in the courtroom like “I WAS HACKED!”
“Sir, is your AOL username not sexyserialkillermoustache247?”
Some REAL questions I’ve wanted to ask since I was a child:
-Why was barenaked ladies’ One Week in the digimon movie
-Why did the digimon movie do to One Week what shrek did to All Star in my tiny tiny child brain
-APPARENTLY the creepy animated photo cutout girl in the animated short before the digimon movie was from a children’s tv show that I’ve never seen. Who was she? Was she popular enough to warrant an animated short before the digimon movie? What relation if any did she have to digimon? Was it an elaborate promotion to boost sales of her struggling show? Or was it the other way around—did she have a dedicated cult following that inifitself boosted the sale of digimon movie tickets? If any of this, why digimon?
If you have any answers my askbox and replies are open.
Artist: *literally breaths in the direction of altered trading cards or anything that would involve defacing a book*
Some Fuck in the Comments, Immediately: I’m so conflicted :// this is beautiful work I guess but WHY would you DESTROY such a beautiful, irreplaceable, mass-produced item??

Solution: The New Yorker should be free online, but they should charge an exorbitant amount of money to submit. Why? Because they publish almost exclusively stories that have been broadcast to them by agents, and have publically admitted that 99.9% of their submission slush pile doesn’t get read, much less published. So: we have a bunch of kids whose parents paid for an MFA (you know the ones) submitting to the New Yorker. They charge the aforementioned Bullshit High Submission Fee to their dad’s credit card so that TNY’s expenses are covered and everyday people like me & you can read the (occasionally!!) good good stories inside that have been submitted by talented authors who got their start (and an agent) the hard but admirable way. This also circumvents the growing “more writers than readers” problem and helps blossoming writers who do get their work published in front of more eyeballs without sacrificing the pristege of getting published in The New Yorker. In conclusion: the rich should pay for the arts to be accessible to the masses. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
[This post is in no way influenced by the fact that I’m out of free New Yorker stories for the month.]
Hi! I keep finding myself interested in brand new (to me) homestuck projects that i was never aware of, even though i’ve been in the fandom since 2013. So here I am, making a list of Homestuck related things still going on in the year of our lorde 2018. Most of these things have discords that are pretty cool and informative. You can most likely find them through the links given, but for some reason i don’t feel comfortable linking them here. May change that in the future.
Now, In no particular order…
Homestuck explained: Making Homestuck’s confusing nature accessible to a casual audience. Very high video quality and makes you think about how you never realized things…
Farragofiction: Overarching website that is home to great projects like Sburbsim (Sburb story generator), Wigglersim (Raise your own grubs in the brooding cavern!), Dollsim (Create homestuck sprites using like,,, a lot of parts. V. cool., and many other smaller projects!
MSPFA: Yep, it’s still a thing. Cool fanventures are still happening, and instead of linking them individualy, I’ll just put them all under the website. Explore, read, create your own fanventure, go nuts.
Playable text based version of sburb! pick your classpect, make sessions with friends, alchemise stuff, loot in dungeons, etc, etc, etc. Devs are currently overhauling the whole game, which is why the v2 website hasn’t updated much, but rest assured, it’s still A Thing ™. Plus v2, for what it is, is still extremely cool. (Playable with friends in a chain)
The Genesis project: Playable homestuck, basically. Create a character, explore your house, have a guardian, enter the game, fight monsters, alchemize cool weapons. Very close to the actual visual sprite style of homestuck but like,,,, you can run around and do things. (Playable with friends in a chain)
Sburbmon: A homestuck reskin of Pokemon fire red. Name your favorite characters dumbass names and go around as Andrew Hussie, making them strife. Almost every conceivable homestuck character is a playable mon you can add to your party.
Minestuck: A minecraft mod that adds Sburb to the game! Start out in a regular world, create a home base, and travel to the medium and explore your planet. In minecraft, ya’ll. (Playable with friends in a chain)
Fantroll Charity: A personal favorite, fantrolls are featured and people draw them/ make something for them, and you get to enter a raffel to have your fantroll be the next spotlight! Best case-senario there’s a new troll every week, but within the past couple of years it’s slowed down to once every few months because entries tend to be a bit slow. Hopefully this will help change that.
breaking bad, fight club, rick and morty, clockwork orange, and the catcher in the rye are all arguably good things - but if a man says they are his FAVORITE book/movie/tv show? RUN.
Can someone explain this to me?
They’re all works that are examinations of compelling but deeply flawed (usually narcissistic and violent) men. People rightly like all these works because they are good, but the implication of the original post is that if a guy says they are his favorite work, he is probably misunderstanding the point of the work and instead idolizing the male protagonist and is unable to recognize their flaws.
