Theater of Coolty Behind the Scenes Featurette: How I made a SHODDY REPRODUCTION OF DAMIEN HIRST’S “SOME COMFORT GAINED FROM THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE INHERENT LIES IN EVERYTHING”, except with a HORSE.
I almost forgot this fic, but can you repost the one where Jake's hope powers start acting up and altering reality? ( it's really funny b cause I remembered it as the one where Jake makes Dirk really hot, and then Dirk also has a crisis about if he's real or not)
Added to list! (And the zombie one in your other message too!)
Ahhhh this is going to be a big archive fic huh. But I’ll get all the good ones!

Happy Sunday! Here’s the first half of a TGWFA update!! Thank you so much for everyone’s patience while I was working on my book. I hope to have the second half of this scene done in a few weeks.
Thanks for reading/sharing!

M Dean’s work is so muted and subtle and I love her almost-always-female-protagonist’s heavy eyelids and internal contemplation, especially when the character does then speak and you get to see this beautifully crafted split between her internal thoughts we as the audience have become privy to and her self she presents to the other characters in the story. It’s such a masterful split and always catches me off guard because it almost feels jarring or ooc to hear the character interacting directly with the world, and have that interaction be different than the woman we’ve become normalized to in her thoughts, but no, it’s actually this fantastically done distinction between what is thought and what is said. (A distinction amplified by the female characters existing in often-vintage settings.)
She paints such lovely character portraits and color palettes and I am such a true, honest fan.
Anyway I can’t wait to publish something excellent so I can consider myself in the same league of my favorite artists. I have nothing but respect, admiration, and a healthy sprinkle of aspiration towards them and their work.
for the google brain dirk au, will dirk ever regain his power of speaking? (also will there ever be a fic where jake gets whipped, he'd look great taking a lashing)
You know, they say the two most difficult things to write in this world are comedy and sex, and I unfortunately put all my talent points into the comedy tree. I’ll often use sex as a facilitator of plot but ultimately I wouldn’t say it’s a strength of mine, at least not past vanilla or vagueties. There’s lots of great DirkJake writers who do write kink stuff, though, and I’m sure they’d be happy to indulge in this kind of thing. Not saying it’s a bad look ;), just that I’m Bad At Erotica. I have to write a sex scene for my work about once a week and I always [panic].
As for your main question: he does not! Jake learns ASL and they work up to full communication and knowledge-release though that. I think HIC has a scan of Dirk’s brain that can still speak, but she will soon learn creating an AI of Dirk was definitely, definitely a mistake.

Can you compile all the Google dirk au writing in ao3? I love them so much
I wrote much of that AU in response to asks about it, some of which may have been untagged because tagging asks is a hassle, so it will probably take me a bit to find all the bits of it and piece it together. I definitely want to do that, though! It just turns out that going through my old work is a bigger project than expected.
Last night John Mulaney hosted SNL and a cut for time skit involved him dressed as a fishman from the shape of water who got married to Adam Driver and had a successful acting career in an Atlantis-based Goodfellas reboot.
Listen not to be a dumb millennial but sometimes your homegirl clicks on the news and has no fucking clue what is going on. Just no fuckin clue. They spewing off namedrops of aging white sameface syndrome politicians and I can’t tell anyone apart. Half the time I click off the page and patiently wait for a bootleg John Oliver Clips youtube channel to help me digest my world events with a spoonful of dry humor and the several degrees of objective separation provided by a British accent. I need Colbert to associate the faces of people involved in corruption scandals to melted muppets or alt-universe 78 year old macaulay culkins just so I can remember who’s who. If my bad news isn’t layered with a crisp glaze of ironic this-is-fine standup I just won’t fuckin process it. Thick thighs. Blank eyes. Who the fuck is the name in this headline.
1. Is there a specific drink you like to have when you’re writing?
Water with roughly 6793 ice cubes.
8. Which character is your favorite to write? Why?
Fandom-wise, definitely Dirk Strider. He’s very self-preserving, which makes him very versatile when throwing him into AUs because he’ll quickly adapt (and thrive!) in any situation. He’s also hilarious.
In my personal work, I like my guy Wells Nolastname. He’s a very dry-humored immortal who chases emotional highs. He’s hilarious, too. I probably like funny, sad, self-serving gays because I am one.
11. What were your favorite books as a child?
Hmm… I really liked fantasy stuff, oddly enough. Artemis Fowl was my jam. I was super into Gail Carson Levine’s Faeries as well. Lots of GCL fae-works still on my bookshelf, including an autographed one!
20. What color scheme is your current work in progress?
Oooh, this is a fun question. You know I’ve got a lot of WIPs atm but I’ll go with my immortals story since I already mentioned my favorite one—the color scheme of which actually changes with the setting. 1926 New York is a deep midnight blue to black with gold, 1927 Los Angeles is olive greens and tans and blue water and alabaster, 1930s Paris is pastel pinks and eggshell yellows and silver and white…
28. What’s your inspiration for writing?
I’m fascinated with capturing the physical intricacies of a sensation or emotion in words. My writing style isn’t very internal, and I very rarely have my characters read aloud their thoughts, so much of my work is dedicated to capturing and displaying moments in their pure physicality. That’s what I aspire to do, that’s what I love, and that’s what keeps me writing. ✨
21. Do you create aesthetics for your writing, ie. on pinterest or tumblr? If so, what’s the board or tag?
Nope! It’s all in my head. Occasionally I’ll tag things with my OCs name but those are usually jokes.
22. Do you listen to music when you write?
Almost exclusively. There’s all sorts of studies that claim it detracts brainpower from work but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
23. Do you make playlists for your works in progress, characters, or scenes?
I do! A lot of my writing plot points have music attached to them, and especially my settings. To use my immortals story’s settings again: 1920s New York has hip-hop with heavy gospel influences, 1920s Los Angeles has deceptively upbeat alt-pop, 1930s Paris has vintage-sounding beat tapes, etc.
30. What’s your favorite part about writing?
I love getting personally swept up in the emotion of a scene. I love scratching down a conversation and not worrying about the quality, just feeling the oomph behind it. It’s a fantastic feeling. Nothing like it in the world.
Whomst wants to hear my latest Mountain Goats ancient literature conspiracy theory.
The Mountain Goats’ discography broadly scales the hierarchy of Roman poetic genres over time (like what Ovid did as his career progressed) from occasional, epigrammatic, elegiac poetry in the early albums (Bitter Melon Farm/Protein Source compilations) to tragedy (All Hail West Texas, especially Tallahassee), to martial epic (Beat the Champ)
