M Dean’s work is so muted and subtle and I love her almost-always-female-protagonist’s heavy eyelids and internal contemplation, especially when the character does then speak and you get to see this beautifully crafted split between her internal thoughts we as the audience have become privy to and her self she presents to the other characters in the story. It’s such a masterful split and always catches me off guard because it almost feels jarring or ooc to hear the character interacting directly with the world, and have that interaction be different than the woman we’ve become normalized to in her thoughts, but no, it’s actually this fantastically done distinction between what is thought and what is said. (A distinction amplified by the female characters existing in often-vintage settings.)

She paints such lovely character portraits and color palettes and I am such a true, honest fan.
