Please explain the difference between all the alpha and beta timelines, I'm so confused

Beta timeline is pre-scratch.  There Jane’s group grew up to be the guardians.

Alpha timeline is post-scratch. There John’s group would play the guardians. Also the Condesce took over the Earth.
