how come Jane's patron troll is Gamzee and John's is vriska even though they share the same birthday?

The Beta kids’ patron troll isn’t their star sign. Their patron troll is the troll they talked to the most.   Technically the Alpha kids don’t have patron trolls, although Jake has a Patron Manbro.
