John changed his handle to EB, however, which represents Ethidium Bromide, a DNA intercalater that fits between base pairs and makes DNA visible by dying it blue!

John’s retcon powers were overshadowed by the end of that Act 1 flash. If you look close enough, somewhere in the left, you see a piece of john’s hair disappear in blue. The very same scene happens when John zaps out a thousand pages later, but you actually see his whole body.

Actually Hussie went back and added that after John got his powers. You’ll find oil from Lowas, John’s hand and even John himself spread throughout the comic, but they weren’t always there. Changing what was been previously stated is the definition of Retconning.
