Do they hang around on Alternia for just long enough to fill a few buckets, then get sent off? Do buckets get mailed back to the planet with some sort of intergalactic postal system?

How many of the 12 troll kids would've actually made it decently into adulthood before they were culled or killed by other trolls had the world not ended? Many of the trolls have physical disabilities not to mention Karkat's mutation and Feferi would've gotten slaughtered by the Condesce.
Karkat and Tavros definitely would have died, Aradia was already dead. Terezi is debatable since she is blind, but she can function normally. Sollux might have been culled depending on how he managed his mutation (which made him hear the screams of the soon to be dead). And Fef def. wouldn’t have beaten the Condesce. So to answer your question, 6-8 of them would have lived.
I saw an ask about how many of the trolls would survive - to the part about Feferi not being able to beat the Condesce, didn't she have Gl'bgolyb loyal to her (Feferi) instead of the Condesce due to Condy going so far away? would that possibly give Feferi any sort of advantage? It was when it split for the Scratch. Pre-scratch Cal had the souls in it, but 2 of the same jujus can’t exist at the same time so Dirk’s lil Cal was emptied out.

Jane is straight as her convo with Dirk points out that Jake was her only romantic option. Roxy has only expressed interest in dudes, I mean she calls Jane hot but given their friendship/personalities it’s most likely in a supportive friend way, but think what you like. Dave has expressed interest in multiple genders. John and Jade have not expressed romantic interest in anyone of the same sexuality/gender as their own.
