A very circle-of-stupidity realisation I came to recently was about boondollars. A very persistent 2013-era Homestuck fandom conception was that they were the currency used by trolls on Alternia, solely for the reason that they were a currency used frequently in Homestuck. I was pretty adamantly against it for some time, until very recently, because it’s not an Alternian currency, it’s the SBURB currency!
But we know that levelling up one’s echeladder is possible for YEARS before anyone ever plays a game of SBURB (Jane is a good example of this), and boondollars are a reward for ascending to new echeladder rungs. We even know things never intended / intending to play SBURB at ALL can operate an echeladder and acquire booncurrency, like… fridges. So really it seems more like boondollars are an everyday abstraction not invented by SBURB but taken advantage of by it, like sylladexes. And considering Alternia’s existence as a planet intended to train SBURB players, and especially the combat-oriented society it developed as a result of this, then it would make a lot of sense that trolls all are in possession of boondollars on Alternia and throughout the empire!
Which obviously isn’t to say that boondollars WERE the Alternian currency - it would make more sense for there to be a focus on making up a large hoard for oneself, and Alternia certainly doesn’t seem to put much into encouraging microcapitalism - but they would certainly be a recognised wealth in the society.
