I’m obviously biased by having just experienced the two in close succession, but as long as I’m here comparing Deltarune to other stuff, it’s interesting that it essentially occupies the same literary niche as Rebuild of Evangelion; it’s not a “true sequel” to Undertale in terms of following on from the events of Undertale, but it’s a story built using Undertale’s established visual language. Toby describes it as “a game you can play after you complete UNDERTALE, if you want to”, in the same way the Rebuild of Evangelion ultimately won’t make any sense to you unless you’ve seen Neon Genesis Evangelion first…
