even beyond any perceived similarities in fiction, Watchmen’s mastery over the comic book format - clever use of varying narratives and voices, incorporation of fiction-in-fiction and multimedia, recurring and “recycled” symbols and motifs, all just examples that immediately spring to mind - all seem like very obvious forerunners to the genre that eventually birthed Homestuck. while Andrew tends to be coy about his influences, or speak of them in the negative - “I don’t watch anime,” “I don’t read Lovecraft,” “I never saw Twilight” - there’s little doubt in my mind that Alan Moore is among them
