it seems obvious that Gamzee’s lack of custodial guidance has left him with “mommy issues” - his first on screen conversation kicking off with a reference to drinking from a “tItS bOtTlE“ of wicked elixir, which leads directly into his whole deal in the Epilogues - but the way Terezi and Gamzee swap remarks about their unconventional family lives in their first chat together, which Andrew describes as revealing a “deeply misguided fascination [Terezi]’s always had with this shitty clown boy”, suggests that Terezi’s side of this arc stems from “daddy issues” thanks to her own lack of a lusus… obviously lending itself toward her fixation on this member of the paternal clown class, and one who was her mentor in their past ancestral lives no less. hence the intentionally vague ‘you don’t need him’ message she gives herself later on
