I don’t have much to add other than that it’s interesting to look at the different allegorical ways people used to have to describe what we think of as “laser eyes”; along the same lines as Medusa turning her prey to stone out of the sheer ugliness of her visage. Homestuck’s dragons are kind of a fun modern retooling of this, causing explosions and flame with a mere glare in place of the more traditional fiery breath.
