I don’t really like talking about my problems with how widely “Dirk Strider is an abuser” has spread through fandom because it’s spread widely enough that speaking up with an opinion against it gets you labeled an unreasonable stan who can’t read subtext, and/or gets you labeled an abuse…

except for the adendum that I’m a survivor and I would never ever tell another survivor what they are and aren’t allowed to be trigger by, but you know what, that doesn’t stop them from turning around and telling me and everyone else on the planet that we’re not allowed to read DirkJake as being a mutually dysfunctional relationship for reasons that could be fixed via communication and compromise. And that if I, a survivor, do view it that way, I’m an abuse apologist. Me, who could barely get through Vriska/Tavros scenes without have anxiety attacks.

People who pull a bunch of evidence from Homestuck to “prove” Dirk Strider is 100% just flat out gay: That is your headcanon. Not confirmed by AH. Just because your headcanon is popular does not mean its canon.
Except that this is incorrect and Dirk is canonically gay. “Considering our respective orientations, Jake was the only viable romantic target,” said BY Dirk. You have to do some pretty impressive backflips of logic to interpret that as meaning anything other than “Dirk Strider is gay.”
There’s a fucking boatload of other evidence, including, to fulfill your writer confirmation requirement, Andrew Hussie getting as close to stating that Bro was gay as he gets to stating anything, which if you believe orientation is innate would also apply to Dirk. But you can throw it all out, look at just that one quote, and there is literally no way to interpret it as anything else.
This annoys the hell out of me. Why do we need to have Dirk wave a rainbow flag and shout YES I AM A KINSEY 6 HOMOSEXUAL before we’ll finally allow the one gay male in Homestuck to not be intensely fucking scrutinized????
A little bit of mushy DirkJake… I know they aren’t perfect, if anything they’re the opposite…. but I’m a strong believer of true love and forgiveness… It might still crash and burn in the end, but when you love someone it’s worth trying.
I need to reblog this because it’s the only human-AR I’ve seen that I actually like and I like it a lot! I have a huge stupid chip on my shoulder about the black bodysuit AR fanon and was annoyed when it was in the update but I love Sunny’s rendition and here is why!
1. He’s not in this weird black bodysuit. AR is not a robot he is an AI! This is a far more accurate version. 2. Glasses aren’t built onto his face, contributes more to the “not a robot” thing. 3. Hat icon instead of the fanon red Heart player icon, I think this is super important because the AR is from SUCH an early iteration of Dirk that his Heart powers were prolly barely developed. 4. SPEAKING OF EARLY DIRK, the AR is just a young Dirk and isn’t capable of aging as a human does so the AR will always in part be a thirteen year old boy and this version just has that young look to him.
I CARE VERY PASSIONATELY ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND I LOVE THIS AR ART, THANK.
