The thing that makes Homestuck’s ending so shittastic is that it fails to bring closure to pretty much every level of the story. It doesn’t tie up all the loose plot threads. It doesn’t bring closure to most characters’ arc. It fails to complete the standard three act structure, because what would normally be the climax was entirely anticlimactic. It hardly even feels like Homestuck’s ending thanks to the complete change of visual style and pacing.
[…] Even if you manage to convince yourself that this is some great meta-narrative about escaping an oppressive story, and that this somehow makes up for everything else… it isn’t. It’s a story about a bunch of kids who got thrust into a narrative, got fucked over by it, then got spit out. The meta-narrative has even less of a climax than the actual narrative does, and makes even less of a statement.
