Ah yes, Gamzee Makara, the psychopathic murderer whom we all know and love to hate. The faygo-spiked cesspool that is his character is one that I have been meaning to delve into for quite a while. Let’s do that now, shall we?

First things first, we need some guides for his character tropes.

Next on the list, the way he talks.

As you can see, it isn’t just variations of the word “motherfuck” in various places. Another thing worth noting is that he swears significantly more when sober (especially in the capitalized lines). He’s honestly one of the most fun characters to write for.

And along with his speech patterns, there’s his personality. In this case, there are two.

When Gamzee is high, he’s basically one of the most mellowed-out motherfuckers this whole bitchtits team has even had. He’s kind, if in his own demented way, whimsical, and friendly overall. He offers to help all of his friends, and he cares about them equally.

When sober, this is all completely gone. Gamzee becomes a merciless psychopath with a taste for blood and mirth. He feels no remorse for the things that he’s done, and it appears that he is going to keep doing them. This is a character who truly loves being bad, and he’s very good at it.

During both of these states, he is very impulsive and unpredictable. That is the definition of capricious, after all. Gamzee doing weird things at weird times has always been a thing that happens.

In this category, it’s worth noting that he is a very abusive partner in all ways of troll romance

As Karkat’s moirail, he did little to offer Karkat any sort of emotional help when he needed it. He was selfish and more than a bit lazy. The only thing Karkat got out of their relationship was being able to claim a highblood as his partner. Nothing more.

And then there’s Terezi. I shouldn’t have to go that deeply into this. He manipulated her mind and caused her to drown in self-hatred and depression, something that no kismesis should ever do. Not to mention the ruthless beating of her in the most recent update.

However, on the topic of mind control.

Is Gamzee being controlled by Aranea? Yes.

Was it always this way? Hell no.

It’s hinted at that this started being a thing sometime between the Green Sun’s birth and when Aranea’s soul was almost ripped out of her body. Of course, he did have a few moments of freedom, but Aranea was not around to witness them.

Gamzee has a vague understanding of who Aranea is. And by “vague,” I mean she’s nothing more than a NINJALICIOUS HO-TITTY MIRACLE to him.

What about other relationships, you ask?

Here are some of them:

• He has/had black feelings for Dave.
• He has/had red feelings for Tavros.
• He has shown some attraction to Jane.
• He seems to have some pale feelings for Equius. This is only speculation.
• As stated before, he is generally nice to all of the trolls.
• He finds the humans interesting and confusing, but he doesn’t really seem to care about them as much.
• Calliope and Caliborn are/were at some point his adopted children. He gave them a bunch of candy and then got tired of Caliborn’s antics, hence the reason that they were chained up in a room when we met them. He seems to still think of Caliborn as a son.

And for extra measure, here are some actual canon facts:

• Gamzee sometimes gets angry when he’s being attacked, even when he’s high. After his enemy is defeated, he immediately goes back to being whimsical.
• He’s skilled with a bow and arrow. Nobody knows when he learned this.
• No alternates of him from any timeline can die. Period. This is a very frustrating fact.
• His rapping is terrible when he’s high. When sober, it’s apparently as good as Dave’s, if not better.
• Sometimes he would accidentally step on one of his horns and scare the shit out of himself.
• He’s extremely manipulative and clever when sober.
• When high, he would sometimes make references to his sober self. He appeared to be afraid of him.

So yeah. Have fun with this! This is a great and evil character, and writing him can be a motherfucking bitchtits blast on a carnival ride. Hope this helped!
