Hi everyone, @allyssinian here! Over the last few months, I came to the realization that out of all the albums for homestuck, Vol. 5 is the only numbered album to not have individual track art, which is a shame because Vol. 5 has some of the best music for the comic!
That’s where we come in: as a collaboration between @cityinthesea and I, we will be hosting a track fan art anthology! There will be one piece of art per track, for all 65 songs (above is an example of 039- Endless Climbing, by @allyssinian ).
The final deliverable will be a free downloadable file of all the images. Because of issues with copyright, this is an unpaid fan project, but we hope you enjoy participating all the same!
How to Join:

Well, for the most part you just need to prove you can produce completed work (so like, if all you have are pencil sketches on paper, it’s probably gonna work against you, sorry;; ). As for the rest, there’s 30-35 spots left right now, so depending on how many people enter, the competition for a spot will get harder.
Hi! I just wonder when the final deadline for the piece will be? A lovely idea, I've always thought it's a bit sad that this great album didn't have individual art for the songs....

Due to the number of applicants, this will definitely have to be juried! We’ve already gone well past the number of songs available, so we may even need to cut the application end date shorter. We’ll keep y’all posted!

Edit 02: because of the high number of applicants, we would like to reiterate that this will be juried!
We want to make sure everyone has a chance to apply and all songs are accounted for, so the limited options/non selectable options are to distribute traffic. This is not to say the application as a whole is first come first serve.
If you want to make sure you have a chance getting your favorite song, apply asap, but that does not mean you are guaranteed a spot, sorry!

I applied because Homestuck was such a huge part of my life for my first three years of high school, and I drifted away with it during 11th because of mental health and my own problems to manage-- m-my point is!! I'm already having trouble remembering how each song played a specific part to the story, but if I read up on Homestuck and ask around to figure it out... would that be okay? Or... should I not have even bothered applying? I'm sorry for being so selfish...
Honestly that’s fine! We’ll be consulting all the artists once the list is finalized, so we know we’re all on the same page over what the songs are about (we even have connection to some of the original musicians so we know their intent for those songs!) so for now just pick songs you like and have the best idea for what you’d want to draw for it, but it doesn’t have to be set in stone yet!

EDIT: there still seems to be some confusion about this so please let me be clear- if you choose to select a song that says not to select it, you will almost definitely not get that song. As much as we’d like to let everyone get the exact song they want, too many people all want the same song.
The “do not select” option is basically there to say “the number of people who have selected this song as their first choice is already very high so we’re capping it here to make sure not too many people are disappointed when they all get rejected for the same song.”
Technically the official artists have not been selected for these songs yet, but the final artists for those songs will only be chosen from the pool of artists who selected it before it became “reserved.”
Honestly I have no preference but if you guys need art I'd be down to do one if it's needed. Any like "this is still available" sort of option I'd be down for. I do most traditional illustrations but I can always just post as is and let someone goto town at coloring or I could give it a shot running through w/e digital art programs. Any who best of luck with this project ^^
Ok so for those of y’all interested, here are the songs still “in the red” (or, “those with 4 or less people opting for that song as any of their preferences 1-5″).
Now, I’m not saying choosing one of these songs will guarantee you a spot, but it does help us out a lot when it comes to assigning songs if not everyone goes for the most popular options.
(For those interested, the yellow blocks represent songs “reserved” by meeting the application threshold, while blue blocks are songs reserved for the team leaders.)

Well, so far the only plans we have along those lines are “runners up” who we will ask to be ready to replace people in the case of an accident and someone is unable to finish their piece.
I entered for the Vol. 5 song art contest (? is that the right thing to call it?) but I was wondering if I should upload more art to my art tumblr for the quick judging? I don't have much art online, so should I upload more before Dec. 30th?
yes it would help us a lot! basically the applications are being juried to see if you have previous examples of finished work! we want to final anthology of album art to be as finished looking as possible, so any examples of completed works that you can provide will help!

Ah, here you go!! All the songs in YELLOW have been reserved (through applicant #s), in BLUE have been reserved (through the leader’s choices in songs!), and the WHITE are still unreserved!!
I won’t post specific numbers this time but suffice to say: the closer to green, the closer to being filled up the song is!
