do you think a possible power for a light player of certain classes to create like roxy can as a void taker? or alternatively, destroy?
Hmmm, other Classpect combos would definitely be able to materialize things, but a Light player? Let’s see, Knowledge, Truth, Alpha, Relevancy… Maybe a Maid or Sylph of sorts could be a sort of wish-granting ‘creates what is convenient and relevant at the time’ Classpect Combo?
I find myself highly associative towards and a great fit to the Void aspect, but am having trouble trying to pinpoint my class to find my classpect. Do you have any thoughts on this or any advice/insight on what to do to help myself better understand this and, in a way, myself?
Sadly not really much insight on this kind of stuff! If reading about the Classes doesn’t shed light on any specific one you may need more introspection, a little bit of time, or going for something less personality-oriented and more power-related. I mean I got my Classpect from a Dream so I am no one to talk about a correct or incorrect way to Classpect yourself.
from a potential standpoint, what thief wiuld you say is the most dangerous/powerful?
Depends heavily on the context- A Thief of Hope or Life, or a Thief of Mind/Heart may be more dangerous to people, but a Thief of Space/Time or a Thief of Light/Void would be more dangerous to their environment, to SBURB as a whole, and to Paradox Space.
I’m going to say a Thief of Light simply because we’ve seen the fuckery Vriska can get up to.
In regards to your class quiz, I can't remember seeing anything about gender. I'm just curious, if I'm a male and I got a female exclusive class, would there be any way to translate that to a male or gender neutral class? Idk I was just wondering
I mean if you’re uncomfortable with the assignment you can switch to some other you’re more comfortable with, but while Calliope theorizes there are Gender-Locked Classes, Hussie said that this is false, and Callie was theorizing as much as we were at the time. So ‘Witch’ is not specifically Female-Locked, but if you’d prefer to go Heir, or even take up on one of the fanon names for Classes like, the Warlock, feel free to!
Also remember that the outfits can be modified as we saw with Meenah, so there’s no reason why you’d have to feel locked to one outfit and one specific Class Name. But their Passive-Verb alignment does determine a few things, so have that in mind.
I think interpreting Maids on name basis is fun since aside from awesome pun (Made of Aspect), and maids who serve and clean and fix (in lowest being stuck and on highest as a person dedicated to chosen duty). There is also this "fair maiden" vibe where a Maid can herself be served by aspect and related entities.
One of the most fun parts of interpreting Maids as ‘Made of’ regarding their Aspect, is the stereotype of Sylphs and Maids as Fairies, with Fae, of course, being beings Made of Magic, somewhat Elemental, which completely fits the ‘Made of’.
Envy aka desiring to be someone else, to have all their powers and positive qualities, desire to be them and to "replace" yourself with them because "the self" on it's own is already worthless and can never be good enough as one of potential "lows" of Thief of Heart. Oh, and an identity crisis after stealing too much Heart.
That’s an interesting way to see a Thief of Heart at their lowest, yeah. Hmm! Paired with the literal power of actually switching bodies with that they’re trying to emulate, it could make for an interesting story.
How do you think a rogue of mind/prince of time would function at their lowest?
A Rogue of Mind might abstract themselves in their own thoughts and put up a facade while suffering internally, where a Prince of Time may… I’m not quite sure actually uh, a Prince of Time… At their worst… I can’t quite tell straight away without knowing more about the Prince themselves, hmmm…
What would be the difference between a Seer and Mage of Doom?
A Seer of Doom would learn to know about the bleak future and the death that will happen in their Session, think if Rose, rather than seeking about the nature of SBURB and the Green Sun, began to dig through the lore of the Consorts about every bad thing that happens in the story, about the creation of Bec Noir, about which of the Heroes Die and Ascend…
Meanwhile, a Mage of Doom, like Sollux, has deeper insight of the bad things that are happening, he’s literally assaulted by the screams of the imminently deceased, and knows about those around them going to die, and their team going to be Doomed in visions.
I’m kind of conflicted between Seer and Heir, can you elaborate on the diff between them please?
One is focused more on Knowing, seeking information, understanding, and from there, seeing if there’s anything they can change.
The Heir is more concerned about the Change itself, both being affected by the events around them directly, and influencing those around them. There’s also the whole ‘Big Change’ that’s supposed to happen to them at some point, and the difference between Seers/Mages being Prophets and Heirs/Witches being Magicians.
Thief of Heart as a soulkeeper that stores souls of deseased players and uses their low-level flashy powers. Or as a literal soul-stealer/eater who hijacks souls of enemies and assimilates them into their own (with a load of unfortunate side-effects). Or the favourite one - reverse posessions where the "demon" ends up in a horror story where their "host"(Thief of H) slowly overtakes them from the inside. Or persona5esque heart stealing.
Yep, all of these are valid and pretty fun interpretations of the Thief of Heart.
i’m tryna figure out whether my character would be prince or knight and i was wondering if you could compare contrast them?
One Serves their Friends, they want to appear reliable and let others know they can depend on them, to the point of pushing themselves too far. By contrast, Princes struggle to not Destroy that which is beloved to them, they get too comfortable in positions of Leadership and have to remind themselves to not let their Ego get to them, while also actively working against bashing themselves too hard.
I tried taking a class tess and got Rouge, and heavily identify with the aspect of Void. Besides what Roxy has shown possible as a Rogue of Void ( wonk ;D ), what other powers do you think a Rogue might able to do, both in terms of stealing Void and giving Void back to something else?
Find out about obscured information and things that have been hidden or faked for sure. A Rogue of Void could also technically sap power from the Horrorterrors and buff herself and her team. Talk about handy! Because a potential Full Party of Grimdark Characters doesn’t sound like a disaster waiting to happen.
Do you think that all Lords would have a colorful collection of leprechaun minions related to their aspect to do their work, or do you think that that's specifically a Lord English situation?
I think that’s a specifically Caliborn thing, not like, Lord. Like, Lord and Muse are Master Classes, they’re rare and we don’t know if they happen in Sessions with more than two Players, but technically speaking Caliborn and Calliope could’ve started a Two-Player Session that would’ve had them play SBURB normally with no Leprechauns. Seems like Leprechauns are tied to Dead Sessions rather than Classpects, making them exclusive to people starting a Dead Session.
Bard of void is my favorite class just because of how the horror terrors and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on it?
Well, the Bard of Rage was in a Lord English cult, and the Bard of Hope had strong beliefs towards Magic and defeating a great evil, so it would make sense for the Bard of Void to be an acolyte of Eldritch, Lovecraftian beings. Forget Rose’s interest in the Zoologically Dubious, the Bard of Void sounds like someone who would actually try to summon a god damn abomination onto our plane.
Or alternatively, they may show allegiance to no one and become a true wildcard that does whatever they feel like.
Wait, so... Is this all canon or really detailed speculation?
If it’s about the Classpects, it’s all speculation! But I do more than just Classpects. Anything that is more speculation is tagged as ‘Theories’, I do intend on doing more than just this, but. You know, people REALLY love Classpects apparently.
Do you think all Lords and Muses have minions? I personally think they don't
Muses don’t seem to have, I mean, does Calliope show herself having ‘minions’ at any point? Lords, though, while I don’t think they have to have minions like Leprechauns at all, the ‘Lord’ still implies a position of control and leadership, which makes minions kind of really easy.
could a thief or witch of light technically change or take the probability of something happening, technically making them able to make anything happen? what if a thief of light carried around, say, a coin or something they could drop, and if they wanted something to happen, they could "steal" the probability of it hitting the floor or some similar definite thing? like is it just me or is light... kind of op
We actually see this- Not in the last example, but I mean. Vriska as the Thief of Light doesn’t change the probability of things happen, but it makes her SO incredibly lucky that things go her way. Terezi’s coin flip would never land on a position that didn’t favor Vriska, her dice can be almost willed to roll the best outcome to do the Ancestral Awakening. Now though, something like the bag hitting the floor, it would likely not change something based around the laws of /physics/ themselves, it seems to me that, chance would make it so that the Thief or Witch could not actually /drop/ the coin in the first place, thus making it not hit the floor.
What are your thoughts about the Horrorterrors? Any theories for them?
I mean I never thought much about them. They’re Eldritch Horrors. Part of the point is that they’re unknowable and infinite, they’re the opposite of Skaia, a source of dark knowledge opposed to Creation. Just kind of your generic Lovecraftian Creatures from beyond Reality.
They weren’t coordinated. There was too much internal trouble, Damara /snapped/ coerced by Meenah to the brink and then led to the dark side by Kurloz, there was death and in-fighting and no one wanted to actually get shit done. But ultimately, while their Session overall was a complete mess?
Their Session failed because it was Glitched.
They were the originals. The first ones, they were like the Beta Kids’ group to the Alpha Kids. But their Session had a big Glitch. Little is known about the Glitch other than it seems to be actually influenced by Lord English, a calling card of sorts. And when this Glitch happens, shit gets weird. In the Session, they had everything they needed to win, arguably. They’re never said to have been in an unwinnable Session, it’d seem that they all had the required tools and Players to complete the game if they had just been less of a group of fuck-ups. But even if they did win? They would’ve been in a Doomed Timeline.
Because they would’ve never been born.
The Glitch is simple. There’s no Ectobiology in the Session. Whatever there is in the labs at the Veil, it’s not the Ectobiology devices to make babies. Just your standard Carapace Ectobiology, arguably. The Alphas never made themselves. They were meteor babies, but they never had Ectobiology to create themselves. And so, Paradox Space required a Session where they would be born. And since it wasn’t theirs… It had to be from a Scratched Session that wasn’t Glitched.
It pretty much forced the Scratch to happen in the Blue Universe, because it needed to retroactively happen for the 12 Alpha Trolls to even exist in the first place.
Could you maybe explain a bit about The Choice? What it is, what its purpose is, what certain characters' Choices might have been? The whole concept just... never really made too much sense to me.
The Choice, bolded because I can’t find how to do underlined with- Wait, what if I link to a blank page? The Choice. Okay that works! The Choice is, as its name implies, a Choice the Denizen offers to those who approach them. They’re at their core a test of character- People will be made to take upon seemingly impossible tasks, or sacrifice themselves for their characters, as well as being presented with their situation at hand. And from the response, the Denizens will judge said Character and decide on a veredict. It should be noted that this is not required to release the Grist Hoard- When a Session has proven to be worthy and viable by itself, the Denizens will be understanding of the situation, just like how all 8 Planets of the Alpha session released the Grist Hoard, even though it seems only Typheus and Echidna were talked to.
As examples, we know Echidna’s Choice to Kanaya was that she do ‘something impossible’, or Fight her, which Kanaya ending up having to Battle her when she disappointed Echidna for not taking her up on her request. Jade had a request like that as well, to bring the Denizens with her, something that seemed impossible at the time, but unlike Kanaya, she accepted. And look at that, in the end she could. It’d seem Denizens never give impossible Choices, they’re just attempts to test people’s will and determination. If they fail, they weren’t worthy. If they refuse, they weren’t worthy. But those not worthy can still test their worth by actually battling the Denizens.
For the John that visited Typheus early, his choice was to Die to correct the Timeline, making Dave have to rewind time and prototype himself, or continue in what was essentially a completely doomed Timeline, to which John gave his life away just to fix things.
Similarly, when John came to Typheus for advice on how to control his Powers, the choice was very simple. John was put in a situation that needed him to Master his Powers. And if he couldn’t control them? Well.
Do you think that Lord English would have a better grip, a better control over time manipulation than Dave, Damara or Aradia since the Lord class is usually associated as the strongest class?
Lord English would have a better grip on Time Travel most DEFINITELY, but not because of the reasons you’re thinking! As the Lord of Time, it’s arguable he’d have a much easier time directly influencing the Timeline and hopping back and forth- But here’s the thing. He’s the Lord of Time. The Alpha Timeline bends to his will.
He would’ve not had any issue travelling through Time like everyone else did, because Lord English wouldn’t be able to produce unstable Time Loops. His very existence is a Stable Time Loop, he is the Alpha.
And what would be your thoughts about the Seer of Void? Predicting nothingness?
Void is also related to Lies, Obscuring Information, like Scratch’s ‘black spots’ in his omniscience, as well as the Horrorterrors and irrelevance. I’ve actually talked about the Seer of Void in that way before, too.
Also, Blind People exist too, you know. :V Seeing Nothing isn’t such an obscure thing.
A Prince of Space evokes the destruction of everything physical, sort of like the Cracks Lord English leaves on the Furthest Ring? Disintegration sounds like it’d fit perfectly with their power sets, maybe somewhat like Shigaraki Tomura in Boku no Hero Academia?
what powers do you think a bard of time would have?
It’s likely they would use Time Travel to destroy and mess up various points in the Timeline, although the idea of destroying Time itself like the Prince, could also be considered.
And I mean, there’s also, you know. The Classic Fanon.
do you think there are any classes we haven't been shown?
No idea. It doesn’t seem like it, however Classes seem more versatile and easy to add more to the system than Aspects. That being said? Fan Classes and Aspects are always fun to see, so don’t let canonicity deter you from that.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on how a Seer of Heart and a Mage of Heart compare to one another, if you don't mind? I've been teetering between the two as titles for myself for a while now. While I feel really strongly drawn to Seer, it occured to me that Mage may be a strictly better fit based on descriptions I've read-- but I'm not 100% sure.
Well, both are the Know classes, so power-wise they’re going to be quite similar! We actually get a hint about their powers with Meulin, she can see what relationships would work together, the intricacies of romance and quadrants, she knows how people would match together and uses this expertise to ship people together and gossip about who’s banging who. However, as the ‘Knower of Souls’, a Mage/Seer of Heart may also be able to, say, identify the Souls that make up a combined being such as a Sprite or Lord English, maybe identify things such as the presence of Spirits in an area, or be able to See Dead Aradia- Remember how Nepeta couldn’t see her on the computer? Yeah Ghosts are invisible outside of the Dream Bubbles.
The difference here lies in the fact that Meulin directly tries to push people to get together in ways that satisfy her shipping desires, where a Seer would be more prone to guiding people to pursue the relationships they think would work best for them. Not to say a Mage is an asshole and a Seer a saint, of course- Sometimes feeling two people would be cute together is just that, cutesy, innocent, and many times actually right. And sometimes, getting together with someone out of convenience, when there’s not actually love, even if it’s the ‘best option’ for some other reason than actual affection, can be devastating.
Since its been told, or if not heavily implied and advised that at least 1 Space player and 1 Knight of blank are required to normally play Sburb in its real form, with an evolving battlefield and prototyping and frog breeding to create the Ultimate reward, what in your opinion would be the most and least optimal classpect choices for a "normal" and viable 2 player session where victory was achieveable?
While Karkat did also help Kanaya with the Frog Breeding, as ‘Servers’ it’s kind of what they do best. It’s not explicitly been said that a Knight specifically is needed, but Terezi does mention a Seer and a Knight being quite the powerful combination, so I may go for that when it comes to Classes. For Aspects though, of course, it needs to be Space and Time. The Space Player brings the Forge, performs the Frog Breeding… While the Time Player brings has Hephaestus, which will then light the Forge, a necessary step to begin the Frog Breeding, and to ultimately blast the Genesis Tadpole into Skaia.
It’s things like these that put the game’s impossibility into perspective, how ‘most Sessions are Void’. Like, if you lack one of those two Aspects? Screwed. One of your players didn’t live near a huge volcano? Welp, screwed. What’s that, did one of you accidentally not prototype anything? Screwed. And then even if the entry went completely fine and everything is in order, just pray you can actually beat the bosses, no agents go rogue and try to fuck things up, you recover the Queen’s Rings safely, the Reckoning isn’t too short, and there’s no other glitch or mess-up of any other sort.
What I’m trying to say is, SBURB is the Dark Souls of Creation Myths.
so do you think Mages manipulate their aspect with what they know from it? because for an active class i don't really see them having any "active" abilities
I mean, kind of? The Know and Change classes are very closely related in that regard, but also it seems Seers are more prone to gathering information from outside Sources, while Mages have more Insight.
what about a session with a muse of each aspect? personally i think everybody would be too busy not stepping on each others toes to get anything done
See, now this one depends, because while also focused on Command, Muses are not about absolute control. They tend to value the greater good and that which benefits those they care about, and they influence their Aspect quite a bit as well so… Maybe they would get stuff done?
Hi! Do you ever try to help people discover their Title?
I mean that’s partially what my Class Quiz is, isn’t it? Helping guide people find the part of their Title that doesn’t have a Canon Quiz and Canon Analysis.
I talked about this already- It’s left ambiguous, but given we don’t see that instance of Aranea ever again, it can be sort of taken like she died completely- Not in the English Double-Died way either, just. The Horrorterrors yanked her Soul from the Session already to make her Ghost. When she revives, her physical body is still based on the projection of her Soul taken by the Eldritch Beings of the Furthest Ring. It’s dubiously physical. And we see that when she dies, her eyes blank out again- Implying that, indeed, at that point, her ‘Soul’ isn’t inhabiting her body, rather, her Soul IS her body. So it seems that maybe she doesn’t get yanked to the Furthest Ring away? Gets sent to whatever afterlife there canonically is in the Homestuck Universe, beyond the Horrorterrors’ faux Afterlife.
What would you think the personality/role/power set+weapon of a knight of time would be? Excluding what we know about Dave. Love your quiz btw!!
Well that’s specific. I mean I’ve talked quite a bunch about the Knight of Time already, plus what we know from him in canon… Weapon-wise though, I don’t think Classes are restricted to any specific weapon other than the one they want? Hell, alchemy can even combine types of weapon. Dave had a god damn Snoop Dogg Machete with ice powers, I would say ANYTHING is fair game in SBURB.
Is there a way you could simplify all of your class descriptions and put them into one comparatively long post. I took your quiz and while I didn't feel like it matched who I am, I found the description itself to be VERY accurate of the class. After digging a bit, I found out but it'd probably be nice to have around for future reference
On the link to the quiz post on my blog, that is, over here, there’s a list of the fourteen Classes, each linking to the description I put on the Quiz, made into a post. I don’t think I could post them all together in a single post, that’d be waaay too long and unwieldy, but if you want the one for your Class, you can check it there! Alternatively, on those posts, and on @revolutionaryduelist‘s blog since he was the one who made them, there’s Class and Aspect Cards with a very brief overview of what the Classes and Aspects mean that maybe could fit what you want a bit better?
Are trolls naturally red-green colorblind? This only came up while looking through the extended zodiac and trying to understand why karkat's sign is in the lime column.
We know nothing about Trolls’ sight cone thingies and how they take light, but I mean given their eyes seem quite sensitive to light, there may be something about them we don’t know about.
That being said, the Cancer Symbol being Lime just proves that the Vantases’ mutant color is a deviation from Limes, as was already popularly theorized due to their position on the Zodiac. There’s not much more to it, though- It’s the Sign of the Signless, of a Troll who never had a Sign, and who adopted, after death, the symbol of his shackles. Maybe Trolls do know Candy Red is a mutation of Lime, maybe there’s some association with Cherub stuff that definitely influenced Alternia, or maybe it’s just Hussie confirming popular fanon cheekily.
Why were there no Scratch construct in the beta troll's session? (Aradia's session, not Damara's)
Arguably, because there had already been a Scratch in that Universe, and Billious may not like getting its insides reset more than it’s necessary. It always seemed to imply the Scratch is a one-time only thing.
Do you think Time players would still be able to time travel without their timetables?
Good question, and I would say the answer is… Some? I could see a Witch and a Heir travelling through time without any device, and I believe Dave does exactly that in Collide if I recall? But then others I’m not quite sure.
If Life encompasses Nature, then how far does that go? Is Weather part of Nature, or does that tip more into Breath because of Wind? Does Nature in terms of Life encompass plants? Animals? Creatures? Anything that's alive, or was ever alive? Could a Life player be a Necromancer and raise an army of the dead? Basically what kind of power falls under the Life aspect?
Do remember that Aspects don’t necessarily need to be isolated from each other, some things the Aspects are related to may overlap with others. Breath could be a good candidate for weather effects- As would Space merely on the grounds that a Space Player could definitely also control wind currents because they’re things in the physical space they are. Specifically talking about Nature? I actually have a friend who, as the Knight of Life, used Lightning as a weapon, so I may be biased in saying that, yeah weather could be Life-y, although also Doom-y now that I think about it. I also have a Fantroll Bronzeblood that communed with plants instead of animals, fitting his Life theme, so I may ALSO be biased in saying that, creatures, beasts and plants may fall under Life as well. In the end, Aspects relate more to what you think they relate to thank you may think, they’re concepts and you can draw a lot from them!
That being said, a Life Player would TOTALLY be able to become a Necromancer, however I see their Necromancy to be more like… Mindless Zombies. Leave it to a Heart Player to raise the Dead with their Soul still intact.
what do you think of twins as heir of mind and heir of heart?
I mean, we have Baizli and Barzum being two completely unrelated Aspects, and don’t know their Classes quite yet. Heir of Mind and Heir of Heart, if anything, sounds actually more Twin-Like than Baizli and Barzum are shaping up to be.
Not that I mind that though- I like the Soleil Twins have different Aspects, means they’re not going to be just a copy-paste of each other, and have their own individual personality traits.
no i mean.. i'm making twin ocs and i'm trying to figure out their classpects lol
I know- I meant- Oh, you meant like, what powers they’d have with that combo? Changing someone’s inner character and bringing something new out, changing their relationships with others, for the Heart, and changing other’s choices or the way they express themselves for the Mind… I’m thinking if they’re twins, it could be interesting to have them like. Be unable to use their powers on themselves, just on the other. Like the Heir, as a Passive Class, is more group-oriented, so maybe they can only express their Classpect through the other?
would players who got to godtier be able to change their godtier clothes? like if someone really disliked wearing sleeveless clothes, and they were a rogue or sylph, would it be changed to have sleeves?
Yes. Meenah actually does exactly that in the Ministrife Flash, she dislikes her clothes so much she has like, 5 different versions of the Thief of Life outfit. And she hates all of them, likely because of the beige and green palette. You can also just. Wear other clothes while God Tier, Powers don’t come from the Pajamas.
It seems that such tools as Rose's wands and Dave's timetables serve more as a focus for their abilities then anything, however the way Rose casted (or rather the voidy effects) when she used Horrorterror-infused wands and the implication that anyone can use timetables if they know how imply that a tool can also be "aspect infused" on itself. So using tools is preferable but only nessesary when you need effect out of your league or when you are in process of getting accustomed to flashy powers.
Sounds like a fair assessment, and also makes you wonder what household items may infuse your weapon with Aspect Majyyks just because they’re tangentially related.
