Are there any strong overlaps with the aspect of Time and Void? In the official troll-sign test I got jade Prospit and Time, but in any other test I get Void specifically every time. I'd even take something about known Void and Time players and their interactions at this point. Is there some grand connection between the two I'm missing here?
I mean, all Aspects are interconnected to an extent. Time and Void though? You could argue it’s something similar to Time and Doom, given everything ‘ends’ given enough Time, it all goes back to Nothing. There’s nothing too specific I can think about Void and Time as a link, though, not that I can think of atm at least.
actually, I have a theory about vriska's status of being dead. caliborn gained unconditional immortality from breaking his clock with the crowbar juju, right? well, in one timeline, spades slick broke vriska's clock with the same crowbar. assuming he did it post-retcon as well, then vriska should theoretically be as unkillable as Lord English.
This is definitely a thing I’ve seen people talk about, but it misses a huge point of Caliborn’s Immortality, and that is that, he didn’t just break the Clock. He broke the Clock and absorbed the glowing Majyyk bullshit. Jack also only briefly battered it around, and Scratch just kind of zapped it back to a fixed state afterwards. Not to say, it seems the Clock represented the Judgement of various characters, appearing to be more of a ‘look’ at the God Tier Judgement rather than the physical, individual clock for each of them.
But even if Vriska was as unkillable as Lord English, that still wouldn’t mean she cannot die. That’s the point of the Black Hole Calliope makes- Given English has subjugated Paradox Space through the Alpha Timeline, the only way to fully erase him is to destroy Paradox Space itself. He’s bound by his hubris, he’s the Villain, he wants to break shit and be feared in Paradox Space, and by that, he binds himself to the rules of Paradox Space. Similarly, Vriska follows the rules of the Alpha Timeline in her own way, she makes the Villains because she intends to Defeat them, she breaks the rules and tries to insert herself as the Heroine. She falls victim to the very same hubris English does, she doesn’t try seeking a way out or seeing beyond- She just wants to be the best there is within the Story. And Calliope tearing down the Story, means that both ‘Protagonist’ and ‘Villain’ are no longer required.
I just saw the new trolls in the Troll Call and tbh I'm confused about Folykl Darane?? Is she/he a parasite? Kuprum doesn't feel weak from constantly being drained of his psychic powers?
Kuprum likes having his Psiionics drained, which is why I’m kinkshaming him for wanting to become a living battery for an Imperial Ship. They seem to have an almost symbiotic relationship.
The horns of the Soleil twins are smaller than that of the Makara's, which makes me think that Baizli and Barzum are younger than Gamzee and Kurloz
I mean does Horn Size correlate with ag- Okay yeah I mean, Horns grow with age, but I mean, Tavros has bigger horns than Karkat but they’re the same age. Maybe he’s a bad example because, nubby Mutant, but still! Purples don’t necessarily /have/ to have the biggest horns, do they?
Heres a question which I've wondered about before and just remembered; Was it ever clarified what Meenah's lusus was? It obviously wasnt G'thoyloblubdemon because that was Doc Scratch's doing, right?
We do not know what he Lusus was, given Gl’bgolyb was ‘gifted’ by Scratch to Alternia. I’m betting it’s a Kraken though. Krakenmom.
how do you think the god tier clocks come into existence? are they already there or do they just pop into existence with each new god tier?
I honestly don’t even know if they’re a physical thing that exists outside of a Denizen granting it as a boon. They seem to be the visual manifestation of the process of God Tier resurrection, a concept made into an item rather than actually a physical thing that needs to exist for every God Tier individually.
who/what do you think a “just” death is determined upon? who defines the games’s standards of justice (as in, to some a life for a life is just but not to all)? do you think the game punishes deviating from neutrality?
For me, a Just Death has always seemed to represent that which is well deserved and fair. ‘Heroic’ and ‘Just’ look in my eyes like “They died trying to protect their convictions” vs “They objectively deserved that Death”. Rose dying while she was trying to avenge Kanaya, Jake protecting Jane, Dave trying to recover Jade to save her and bring her back to life, all of these things were them fighting for a cause, and dying for it. John, thus, didn’t die a Heroic Death when he faced Bec Noir because he Backstabbed him before their combat even started, before John could even charge at him, and was deemed to not have even been fighting for his Father yet.
Just, on the contrary? Vriska, who died because she stubbornly tried to make herself the Heroine even though Terezi told her she would lead everyone to their Deaths. Aranea, who had good intentions by changing the Alpha Timeline but absolutely destroyed everything in her path to get it, Jane, who had been corrupted by an outside force. The game considered all three of them to be Just, because given the circumstances of the Timeline, they deserved to Die. They tried to follow a cause as well, their ideals (Except for Jane, who had her ‘ideals’ replaced through Mind Control), but opposed to Rose, Dave or Jake, they were stepping over other people, killing others and disregarding feelings and agency of others for their purpose.
It’s likely that issues of Grey Morality would fall in the neither Heroic nor Just category, and bring them back to life.
Jujus are strange in that they seem more like Meta Items or McGuffins than actual physical items from the setting. Concepts, or Plot Devices. There’s the Clock that displays visually the concept of God Tier resurrection, there’s a Lollipop which activates in canon what was, until now, a Cheat Code/Easter Egg in previous flashes, a Ring that brings a Character to Life, what is basically the Villain’s Horcrux… No beginning and no end, unique and potentially cursed, the best way I can describe them is things that ‘make shit happen in the story’.
Do you think the Alpha Trolls (Damara -> Meenah) had Trollian? Or Trollian didn't exist during the time they played Sgrub? Because they don't have any Troll handles
They don’t have any Troll Handles because we just see them speaking in person, there’s nothing that implies they didn’t have Trollian. Hell, they HAD to have some online method of talking to each other because Meenah was on the God Damn Moon because being the Beforan Empress was too lame.
Do you think you could make a list of your definitions of classes + aspects kind of in depth like dahni did? You don't have to! It would just be cool to see an updated version of it? (Since there's canon definitions of the aspects now)
I would if it wasn’t absolutely draining to do them all at once. Maybe in a future, but getting descriptions of the 14 Classes individually and like, a bunch of Classes daily is draining as it is, sitting down to write my theories that don’t necessarily have to be canon, for 168 Classpects sounds like a little bit of Overkill.
if a Mage of Void knows that which is obscured or unknown would they basically know everything that isn't known? same for a Seer of Void
Yes, and no. As powerful as the potential of “Knowing the Unknown” may sound, remember there are Rungs of God Tier powers, and different people will use it in different ways. So maybe they do acquire knowledge of EVERYTHING that is secret and unknown! But maybe they can only decipher code if they’re actively reading it rather than just suddenly knowing it, or maybe as the “Knowing Nothing” also implies, they could have absolutely no idea of anything that’s going on. You can definitely toy with God Tier powers and what degree of power and what parts of the Aspect they touch.
wait if the Horrorterrors are the players who created the ancestors universe then why do they live in the Incipisphere instead of the trolls universe?
They’re not the Players though! Hussie was making a joke that 48 Squiddles made the Trolls’ Universe, and the Squiddles are sort of a manifestation of the residual memory of the Horrorterrors printed upon Humanity, buuuuut we actually have no idea if he was just messing around or if there really are 48 Squishy Squid Gods somewhere in the Alternian Universe.
As for where they are though? Given Universes are, after all, product of the game? That’s a good question. Alternia has a 48-symbol Zodiac, implying a 48 Player Session, but we never see anything like that. It’s possible that whatever Gods and Rulers there were on the Session, they died Justly or Heroically a long time ago, or perhaps they are still somewhere around the Universe, just not on Alternia. That being said it should also be noted the original version of the Universe was the Alpha Trolls’, Beforus, and we know veeeeery little about it, so who knows what was going down with squishy tentacle monsters over there.
i'm rereading homestuck and got to the part where Rose enters the Medium; what do you think her quest was? how would she have gone about "playing the rain" and what would that have done for her as the Seer of Light?
It’s hard to say. I always imagined it was somewhat like, literally playing the strings of rain as if they were a violin, letting her Light Majyyks flow through the Land and bring a spark of life back into it, but it was left vague enough that it’s difficult to say. A big point of Rose’s Character Arc is the refusal to go through such a quest, and then the doubt after the fact about her place in the Universe and as a Seer of Light and what she should’ve done in retrospect.
The only one that we know of. The Hemospectrum seems to be limited to 12 colors- With Limebloods being extinct by the time Homestuck happens (And Karkat’s Candy Red being a mutation of the Lime Blood caste), and Fuchsias being limited to the current Heiress and Condy (As far as we know, maybe other Fuchsias are culled while the Heiress is still alive, and they’re still born).
That being said, given Limes mutate into Candy, there’s nothing really preventing other blood colors from appearing in the Hemospectrum through incredibly rare mutations. If you’re asking for validation on Pink Blooded Fantrolls, really, just do whatever you enjoy and don’t let people or canonicity bring you down!
I should point out His Honorable Tyranny has Black Blood, and while he doesn’t look like a Lusus, it implies there’s creatures on Alternia with more than the 13 colors we know of, so… Who knows.
Imagine Aradia, Tavros, Sollux, Karkat, Nepeta, Kanaya, Terezi, Equius, Gamzee, Eridan and Feferi having Ancestral Awakening too
Well, the Fluorite Octet is a powerful weapon but still a weapon nontheless, I could definitely see ways to power up beyond God Tier for all of the Trolls with some sort of device or power up buff.
I would rather NOT have Aradia nor Gamzee get an Ancestral Awakening however, that could be dangerous.
if a Mage of Mind has violent tendencies (due to being a purple blood like Gamzee) that they're trying to express in a healthy way without actually hurting anyone, how would they be able to do so through their Mind powers?
That is an… Extremely specific question. Also ‘violent tendencies’ and ‘healthy’ don’t tend to go hand in hand. I really do not think a Mage of Mind’s powers could channel something like that? Unless they were fighting their literal inner demons within their mind and beating the crap out of anxiety and fear, but still. That’s… Yeah.
do you think a prince of light would have shit luck except when they're trying to fuck some shit up?
Not necessarily, they could also Destroy OTHER people’s Luck, or Destroy THROUGH their Luck. The idea that Princes Lack or only Destroy their Aspect, while it’s true they can definitely do so, doesn’t always apply.
It’s a power-up mode Vriska goes into when she rolls 8 8s. She dons the garb of her Ancestor and a sword, and becomes stronger. It’s hard to say if she actually draws upon the ‘strength of her Ancestor’, or if it’s just a Buff aesthetically made to look like her Ancestor because it’s cool.
Then again Mindfang is a Sylph of Light so maybe it really is a Buff linked to her.
what is the potential of a purple blood bard of mind? destroy minds or something like that?
I’ve already talked about the Bard of Mind before! Really though, I don’t quite think Blood Caste would have anything to do on the potential of someone’s God Tier? If anything it may make the relationship to their Aspect slightly different and have different takes on their powers, but also it depends on the individual? Generalizing what all Purpleblood Bards of Mind could do is exactly the same as generalizing what all Bards of Mind could do in general.
What would Gamzee's and Aradia's Ancestral Awakening be like?
I have no idea, but the Handmaid being under LE’s service, and Gamzee’s Ancestor being the Grand Highblood tells me both would be bad for everyone involved.
This is a video series focused on Homestuck’s Hero Title system, a hyperflexible mythology like Hogwarts houses or Bending type. The Hero Titles are based on The Legend of Zelda’s “Hero of Time” structure, and is split into two halves:
The “Class”, which changes the “Hero” in the title to tell us more about the character’s particular skills and habits.
And the “Aspect”, which changes the “Time” to one of twelve broad elemental forces.
In this first video, we take a look at the Aspects in-depth. The two following videos will cover the Classes.
In part II of this mini-series on the Hero Titles, we take a closer look at the Classes. Reading them through the lens of Carl Jung’s mythic Archetypes and the existential duality of Yin/Yang, we develop an understanding of the Active/Passive split between classes and begin to get a sense of the broader system that defines each one.
This also marks the announcement of another arm of this venture: Comments response videos. From now on, I want to make you guys part of the conversation, so messages or questions sent to me on Tumblr, Twitter, or wherever may appear in videos as we converse and try to understand the nature of Hiveswap and Homestuck’s stories.
Dark Session: Skaia's light is slowly going out, leaving the entire Medium in perpetual darkness, allowing the Horrorterrors to roam throughout the Medium inching closer to Skaia. It is the job of the Mage of Void to bargain with the gods to prevent their session's destruction
Oooh that’s a cool concept. It reminds me of a Fansession I came up with a long while ago, where a Witch of Void tried to speed things up along and killed the White King and Black King to call the Reckoning herself, only to end up acting as a Beacon of the Horrorterrors through the King’s Staff and summoning the Horrorterrors to tear the place up directly rather than loosely influencing from afar to prevent the Creation of a new Universe.
a prince of rage would be able to destroy rage, but also destroy through rage, yes? does that imply some kind of awesome calming down skills in order to destroy rage, but also be prone to anger and violence and destruction?
Not necessarily both at the same time. It’s likely they could do something like that- For example, look at Kurloz. He’s super calm all the time, people around him kind of trust him because he’s just the creepy mime that sometimes gives you the middle finger but like, he’s not a threat or anything. And then all of sudden he’s corrupting and mind-controlling poor Meulin through Chucklevoodoos and his Cult, which is heavily Rage-coded. He kind of has both the pacifying and the more aggressive sort of mind control “LONG LIVE LORD ENGLISH MY KITTY BITCH” kind of states, giving a look at how embodying both sides of this spectrum can work. But a Prince of Rage wouldn’t need to do both of these things necessarily, depending on who the Prince is they may lean to one or the other. Classpects basically tell you the possibilities, the spectrum in which one’s powers and general personality traits may fall on, but the specifics and how far they take it is always dependant on each unique case.
There was a debunking of gender restrictions for classes, right? Like... where was this said in the first place and how did we figure out it was wrong?
Calliope implied that some Classes were Gendered, because she’s a theorist and she was basing herself on the naming conventions for some of them (”Witch”, “Prince”), as well as the gender of the characters we have seen with those Roles. (All Maids have been women, all Princes have been men, Rogues have had a mix of both, etc.)
Hussie went on to debunk this on Twitter, saying Calliope was merely theorizing as much as us in the Fandom may have been, and that Classes are not actually gendered.
I was reading through the wiki page on aspect and it mentioned that there is a hero of time in every successfull session, which got me thinking; Would it be impossible for a session to be successful if there wasn’t a time player? Is a time player essential to have a successfull session??
It’s been stated before that a Space and a Time Player are 100% required for a Session to be successful. This seems tied to the Space Player’s Land having the Volcano that will launch the Genesis Tadpole into Skaia, as well as the Frogs to breed it in the first place, and the Time Player will have the Denizen meant to Light the Forge, allowing for Frog Breeding to Start and giving the Volcano some Lava to launch the Frog.
You know how you've previously said that having a volcano nearby might be a must for a successful session? what if the players in the game terraformed a volcano of their own, either using sburb or their godtier powers? Wouldn't that then increase the chances of winning greatly
I mean, the most important part of the Space Player is the Frog Land, arguably you could Terraform a Volcano, or build some kind of device to catapult the Frog into Skaia. A friend has a Fan Session where their Rogue of Space needs to Steal a Volcano into their Session from elsewhere. Whether the volcano is 100% required to win, it’s hard to say, buuut it still seems like Space Players tend to bring it with them in viable Sessions, conveniently.
technically calliope could be correct about gender-restricted classes, just not in the way she thinks--if there is exactly one muse and exactly one lord that exist in all of paradox space (likely, given the level of impact their powers have on uhhhhh everything ever) by definition they are both exclusive to a single gender
That is definitely a possibility, given how weird Muses and Lords are, although then the ‘exclusive to a single gender’ thing would be a completely pointless statement, as they’d be reduced to a single individual. The way Callie mentions it and how they appear, even if they are indeed only granted to Calliope and Caliborn, they’re classes built in within SBURB’s Classpect system in itself.
Okay so I need a detailed explanation of where exactly everything is in relation to eachother in homestuck, like where is the genesis frog in relation to the furthest ring, where is the medium compared to the incipisphere, where are two genesis frogs in relation to each other, where is your original home planet in relation to the medium etc. Thank you.
Okay, let’s begin with the easy ones, The Medium and the Incipisphere. Consider the Incipisphere to be the entirety of the Session- It encompasses the ‘Dimension’ so to say where SBURB happens. Skaia, the Lands, Prospit and Derse, the Veil, and reaches outwards beyond Derse and into the Furthest Ring. Much like the ‘Dream Bubbles’ you could consider the Incipisphere as the ‘Bubble’ the Session is contained within, except there doesn’t seem to be any actual, physical boundary between the Furthest Ring and the Session. The Medium, meanwhile, is considered as the space between the Veil and Skaia- Basically the Void where the Lands orbit, with Skaia and Prospit at its centre.
Now, the Genesis Frog is the objective of the game. You create an Universe, and it is created within Skaia if you complete the Session. Time and Space is weird in the Furthest Ring, meaning nothing has a set ‘distance’ or ‘position’ within, nor is even in the same time frame! So you can consider the Sessions to be pretty much spread out at Random in this realm, with the Genesis Frog right in the middle of the Session. Likewise, the distance between two Genesis Frogs is the distance between two Sessions, which is to say, undefined and unmeasurable given the Furthest Ring is between them.
As for where your Planet is within the Medium, it is inside of the Genesis Frog created by the Session that created your Universe. That is to say, within the created Universe. Consider it something like… This.
I'd love to hear your views on the abilities of the Mage/Seer of Mind, please. Are there abilities that 1 has available that the other doesn't? Can a Mage see the consequences, see alternate memories, and connect alternate consciences in the same way Terezi can? Is there anything that Mage can do that Terezi can't? Which 1 is the wiser of the 2? Is wisdom even a factor in which of the 2 you are? Who would have the most control over fate, or the direction of causality? Love your work; keep it up.
I’ve actually talked about the Mage of Mind before, and the Seer would definitely be similar, not to say the amount of information we have on the Seer of Mind thanks to Terezi. Seeing outcomes, recalling her choices, she displays some really interesting abilities even without ascending! As for what they can do, though? The answer is that there’s no difference in the potential of abilities between Active and Passive Classes if we’re thinking about raw powers. It heavily depends on the mindset of the characters and the situations, but Active or Passive, they share a Verb, and such the range of what they MAY be able to do is the same. Passive Classes will however LEAN towards more less exploitative uses of their powers, and Active Classes towards more direct uses. As such, a Mage will have more direct control over causality by default, but a Seer in the right situation may do the same, or convince others to lead causality where they want it to more than the Mage would by themselves. Zones of comfort, what they’re using their powers for and their states of mind influence heavily on how things work.
Why did John's house spawn so far up on top of that pillar thing?
Seems like some Lands have some sort of ‘Hazard’ that prevent you from going too far before you start alchemizing and building the house up. John’s was an insurmountable Cliff, Dave’s was surrounded by Lava, Rose’s was in an Island, Jade’s was freezing cold right after having spent her life in a Tropical Island, Dirk’s was filled with dense gas with little oxygen, Jane’s home was sinking into a hole, Feferi’s was kind of stuck in a fish bowl to start with, and so on. Just little first roadblocks to make Players start to get Shit Done instead of wandering off, aimlessly, from the beginning of the game.
When both Jade and Eridan went grimdark, they were violent and hostile (even more for Eridan) but when Rose went Grimdark, she just became slightly more jaded. Do you think if another Light player would turn grimdark, their personality will remain the same, just like Rose?
See, the thing here is mistaking Grimdarkness and Grimbarkness, and thinking Eridan went Grimdark in the first place. There’s a HUGE difference between these three states.
Let’s begin with Rose, and define Grimdarkness as a state in which you’ve been Corrupted by Horrorterror Influence. After she enters this state, Rose gains Eldritch powers, is only able to speak in the Festertongues of the Horrorterrors (Those Stubborn Throes), and becomes single-minded in her very emotional quest to take down Bec Noir for killing her Mother. Her skin literally becomes grey, she has an aura of darkness surrounding her, and brings with her obscurity, pink lightning and black ichor rain.
Now for Jade, with Grimbarkness, there’s absolutely no influence of the Horrorterrors. This is a state in which Jade’s conscious, rational mind is being pushed back while her more animalistic instincts are brought out. She’s not being fully made into a mindless drone, as much as she’s being swayed to Condy’s side, and forced to have all that’s bad within her come out. Frustration at her relationship and other people’s inaction, rage, instinct, she becomes a primal embodiment of all the bad things Jade has deep within her. She can still speak, her First Guardian/Space powers aren’t suppressed in the slightest, and her skin literally becomes grey as well.
Finally, Eridan is not being influenced by anything at all. The darker grey tone of his skin is a stylistic choice through his Murder Spree. There’s no Mind Control, there’s no Swaying, there isn’t even a power-up of his abilities- The White Hope Energy is heavily implied to be coming from Eridan and not his Wand, similar to Rose’s Magic. These are intrinsic abilities that he learned to rely on, as a Hope Player, when he dumped his previous attitude of no-Magic (Even though it’s still a ‘science wand’). He channels his energy through it, and does what he wants in that moment. He tries to offer Feferi one last chance to join him as he’s about to pretty much beg Bec Noir to let him join his side and survive in exchange of telling him where everyone else is, before proceeding to KO and Murder anyone who stands in his way when he sees no one wants to see things like he’s seeing them. He’s in a desperate state, he has lost Hope, but at the end of the day, those violent tendencies are a part of who he is and he shows absolutely no regret about his actions until after he’s dead.
In short, Grimdarkness is a state in which someone is being corrupted by the Horrorterrors, with an added power-up and a close tie to Void, and Rose shows her will being amplified rather than suppressed- She is given the tools to go fight Bec Noir, arguably, even while being corruption it’s a ‘boon’ by them. Grimbarkness is a state exclusive to Jade because she’s a furry, when the more rational, kind part of her is being repressed and all that’s bad but already there comes out, with a sway to Condy’s side. Eridan is not Grimdark, nor Grimbark when he goes on his rampage, and is just being a huge asshole with too much power for his and everyone’s well being.
do you think a troll time player would try and meet their ancestor?
Ancestors are dubious mythological figures on Alternia, it seems like not every Troll believes in them, but on top of that… By the time a Troll Time Player gets the ability to travel back in time, they’d already be in the Session and Alternia on the brink of destruction, wouldn’t they?
How in the ever loving fuck did john Egbert manage to high five his kernel sprite in the beginning of homestuck, even though it was only prototyped once
I’m always kind of amused that, of every single thing in Homestuck, this is the thing that breaks people’s Suspension of Disbelief, and they do not even mention the time Dave’s Seppucrow Kernel pecked him on the head without prototyping him! There’s many answers to this one, so pick the one you like the most!
1) It was too brief of a contact. A High-Five, a Short Pecking, it’s more of a little smack, whereas Davepeta’s creation was a firm Handshake, meaning there’s a degree to which you can touch your Kernelsprite without being prototyped in it.
2) The Alpha Timeline wouldn’t allow for anything other than what needs to be Prototyped to be inserted into the Kernelsprite. Maybe there’s a bunch of Doomed Timelines where John did fuse with his Kernel, and where there’s a Davesprite Pre-Entry, but that’s what they are. Doomed, because they screwed up the Prototyping Process.
3) Davesprite and Nepetasprite are Irreleveant, John and Dave aren’t. This ties in with the previous one, and I don’t mean to be insulting towards Davesprite and Nepetasprite, but at the beginning of the game, we need John and Dave to be Players, and they need a Guide to show them what to do and for things to happen. Davesprite from the Future, too, comes back with some sweet loot to help John and Dave. But at a certain point in the Timeline, these Sprites become kind of obsolete. The Players outlevel them, they have all the knowledge about SBURB they need. They kind of become just kind of a side-character that shows up from time to time, and since the Timeline has no need for them anymore, it’s more lenient with what can be Prototyped and what happens to them.
4) Harlequinsprite shows not wanting to be prototyped with Betty Crocker mix and outright refuses to have it come near, but a surprise like the ashes or Dave and Nepeta just being oblivious about what’s going to happen after shaking hands, makes it seem that a Sprite may outright refuse and not want to prototype with some things, disabling its prototyping properties at certain times.
5) You need to touch the CORE of the Kernelsprite, or any part of a Sprite. Pre-Entry, the Kernel is a ball of flashing light, even with prototyping, it has the general shape of what you tossed in it but it still has the flashing circular core. This may imply that before it becomes a fully formed Sprite, which seems to be able to happen both inside and outside of the game depending on the situation, you can only prototype yourself if you properly touch the centre of the Kernel. But, after becoming a sprite with a body and tail, any part of the body becomes receptive to being Prototyped again. Meaning a Peck or a High-Five as a Kernel can happen, but once you’re a ghosty Sprite anything you touch is a potential Prototype.
6) Hussie simply thought this was such a minor and silly detail it wouldn’t affect the story in the slightest, but everyone in the Fandom latched onto it as if it was the only potential continuity error the story has. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Homestuck and a lot of things that seem weird can be explained in some manner, but there’s a few quite vague details here and there, and Hussie is human (I think), so, you know, he can make minor mistakes that don’t actually affect the entirety of Homestuck that much, in order to create everyone’s favorite Pumpkin Flavored Child.
Did he? I can’t quite recall that. Even if he went ‘Grimdark’ however, it was still obviously a different state than Rose, by the mere fact he was not under the Influence of the Horrorterrors. He was Grimdark, alright, in the sense that he shifted the Narrative to a much darker tone of death and hopelessness, Grimdark is not a Homestuck-exclusive word. We’re talking about the canon, in-setting State of being Corrupted by Horrorterrors, rather than the Framing Device of Eridan’s Snapping and the start of Murderstuck. Come to think of it, does Jade actually say ‘Grimbark’ in-canon or was this a Fanon Term that got super popular?
Okay no, yeah, it’s definitely a Canon Term. My stance on Eridan’s Matter still stands, though, there’s a difference between “Grimdark” as a state of being corrupted by the Horrorterrors, and “Grimdark” as a setting or a character being very… Well. Grim and Dark.
Not to say, Jade and Rose both kept on being ‘Grimdark’ until they died, whereas Eridan stops being framed as dark grey/black post-snapping, in the 3x Showdown Combo and before Kanaya splits him in half.
I was wondering, there's a god tier Mituna sprite in one of the flashes (maybe the end? Can't remember) and if that mituna was from a session where he didn't need to save his friends with his psionics,or it was a failed session if they didn't get the right people to go god tier?? Sorry if this is confusing and long..
I’m pretty sure we’ve seen God Tier sprites of every one of the Alpha and Beta Trolls at some point or other, any deviation from the Alpha, whether good or bad, is Doomed to end, so it really doesn’t matter much what happened in the Timeline for them to reach God Tier. Specifically, all Alphas were destined to die eventually by Meenah’s Tumor Bomb, so it matters even less. That being said, other non-Alpha Mitunas are interesting to think about. Did they all go through a Doom-related ‘Change’ and end up like the Alpha somehow? Are there more coherent Mitunas going around? Does going God Tier make him more coherent again? Does this happen AFTER Ascending to God Tier? Hell, we actually don’t even know if Alpha Mituna went God Tier or not, he states not remembering it, and shows an equal amount of excitement about getting naked for Meenah to check if he has wings, and disgust at being touched, which puts her off enough to just shimmy away and not bring it up ever again. Mituna really is an interesting case I wish we knew more about.
Do you think Lords actually have the powers of all active classes or that they have their own unique power?
They have their own Verb, however ‘Command’ is broad enough that there may be a lot of overlap. That being said, it’s not like God Tier powers can’t overlap already, so. There’s surely things only Lords can do, but there’s always going to be some Overlap.
a player's world depends on their classpect right? do you know what kind of world a heart player would have?
The Worlds depend only partially on Classpect, it’s mostly on the Player itself, so I can’t say what kind of World a Heart Player would have, sadly. It seems some Lands do relate to their Aspects- Space Players have ‘and Frogs’ as their second thing in the Land, Tavros’ and John’s are related to Wind, Rose’s has Light and Dave’s has Clockwork, Aradia’s has Melody (Music-Time), Terezi’s Thought and Flow, Karkat’s Pulse. But then there’s also the Alpha’s Void Session with like. Tomb + Noble Gas, which doesn’t seem to directly relate to their Aspect, and yet still hold a Quest related to their Classpect (Jane having to bring Life back into the Dead Land…). So in the end? The Land depends on the Character itself, their Classpect, what their Quest they’re going to go through, the Session itself they are in…
I mean, hell, even the god damn Land of X and Y convention is broken with Nepeta’s Land for a silly LOLCAT joke, so not even THAT seems set in stone.
do you know why becsprite didn't start out as a ball of energy, and instead went straight into a more final-looking form?
I believe Hussie mentioned that having him do what he did as a floating seizure Dog Head would’ve looked too silly for the magnitude of the event, but don’t quote me on that. You could argue that Bec is just That Powerful™ or maybe that Sprites can sort of ‘will’ that state if the situation requires it pre-entry.
If Kuprum likes being drained of his Psiioniics, does that make him a masochist?
Honestly with the way we know Psiionics are drained, you could make a case for a mixture of being a Masochist, Bondage Enthusiast and Tentacle Fetishist. In either case, I’m still kinkshaming.
Actually you can't prototype without living things. Alternative Dave could have been prototyped beceause he was doomed and Paradox Space treated him as if he was dead
Are you saying that Living Things can’t be prototyped or that only Living Things can be prototyped? Sorry I couldn’t quite catch which one you meant there- But whichever the case it’s false. The literal first thing that’s Prototyped is a Harlequin Doll, and then you have Bec prototyping himself, both filling the role of a fully inanimate and a fully alive things getting Tier-1 Prototyped. Arguably there are no restrictions to what the Kernelsprite will accept as a Prototyping Item.
along the same kernelsprite vein: i read somewhere that the sprite prefers dead or doomed things more than anything else and gave what looked like a chat log as proof; do you know where that chat log came from? it was black text, no real capitalization, if that helps.
The game has no explicit rule that demands something dead for prototyping. But in practice, the kernelsprite has particular attraction to the deceased or the doomed. Across every session ever played, exceptions to this pattern are extremely rare.
Basically if there’s ANYTHING that could be considered Doomed or Deceased in your immediate surroundings, the Sprites will definitely favor being prototyped with it, according to Hussie. And while he states the exceptions as ‘extremely rare’, we can also assume that if someone who literally has nothing that could be Doomed or Dead around them, would be able to prototype just about anything.
I do wonder how far Hussie’s definition of ‘Doomed’ reaches. Would you swatting a fly against a wall count as something deceased the Kernel would like? Does it need to be bigger? The system is vague and flexible enough to headcanon quite a bunch of things. Hmmm… Bec wouldn’t quite be treated as ‘Doomed’ being a First Guardian would he? Thus being one of the few exceptions to the rule.
I took your class test, and I got sylph! I'm stuck between a couple aspects, though, so I was wondering if you could go over what a sylph of light and time would be like? Thank you!
I talked about the Sylph of Time already, but I only mentioned the Sylph of Light in the passing in some other posts, hmm. We do have Aranea as a canon example of a Sylph of Light- Healing eyesight, improving someone’s relevancy, trying to Make the Timeline she was in the Alpha so that she could stop Lord English from being born (Which was kind of a futile attempt but, hey). As such she kind of showcases a big part of the Sylph Power Spectrum applied to Light. Healing Light and Healing Through Light, Improving someone’s Light or Making the Alpha, Making Fate, Making or Improving Fortune, a Sylph of Light certainly sounds like a force to be reckoned with and a game-changer if allowed to benefit a Session.
what's something powerful you think a Rogue of Space could do? I see them taking the gravity from a star and adding it to themself, causing everything to be pulled at them at ridiculous speeds and being like a sort of mini solar system
I mean if you want them to be crushed under their own Gravitational Pull that sounds like a good idea. :^)
In all seriousness though, the coolest I can imagine would be taking the powers of a First Guardian, since they seem to be Space-Coded.
I’ll have to make this post from time to time, or maybe make a section for this in the FAQ at some point, but basically- If you send me an Ask about a Classpect combo and I don’t respond to it, it’s because I’ve already covered about it in the past. If you specify having read my previous explanation and not being too sure yet or having some extra ideas about it you would like to add, by all means do tell me about it! But if it’s a repeated Classpect, and you sent me the message on Anon, I will delete it. Messages off Anon, I can at least reply privately, but I’ve gotten quite a few anons asking for Classpects I already covered, and I wanted to make this clear.
Do you think a Rogue of Doom could switch a doomed timeline to their session's alpha timeline and doom the alpha by stealing the doom from the doomed timeline and giving it to the alpha?
It’s a possibility, however the question here is if someone can truly Doom the Alpha, much like what Aranea was trying to do by making another Timeline the Alpha, the theory seems sound but in practise this may be a bit different. Switching their Doomed Session with the Alpha though, seems more feasible, kind of superimposing what had been going wrong on a still successful Timeline and merging the two to create a single, stable, Alpha Timeline that was always meant to be, rather than ‘Dooming the Alpha’.
