What would a Rogue of Space’s powers entail? Also, what would a Bard of Doom’s fully realized ability be?
I’ve already talked about the Rogue of Space quite a bunch. And I’ve said a few things about the Bard of Doom! But not too much. I mean there’s a lot of different takes on what their abilities could be, I believe I’ve talked about Destroying Destruction with the Prince of Doom perhaps? The Bard would be similar, preventing bad things from happening is likely. They’d, conversely, also be the most aggressive when it comes to Destroying things- Destroying through Doom after all makes it sound like it’d be Destruction^2. Bringing pain and bad things upon their foes, causing things to break. You know, classic Bards.
Do you think that maybe the reason there was 2 frog temples on alternia was because there was another session played on it? And how likely do you think that the session was done in hiveswap?
There was no other Session because the two Temples were actually a single 12-Player Session Temple split in two. If there had been a Session before the Trolls, Alternia would’ve been destroyed- Unless it was a purely Void Session I guess?
Either way, what the 2 Frog Temples may imply, is that there may have been two First Guardians on Alternia, which does give some sense to the Axolotl Concept Art.
Are there still lime bloods on alternia? I know not many but maybe just a few who managed to hide?
Arguably, by the time the Beta Trolls are born, Limes are extinct. ‘A few who managed to hide’ is highly unlikely, given Trolls are born on Alternia from a single source, the Mother Grub, so every single Lime that was born, if any at all, after the Extermination, should be accounted for and taken care of.
That being said, if you’re talking about Hiveswap rather than Homestuck, there’s reasonable evidence that we’re going to see Limes, implying for them to have survived in extremely reduced numbers, or for whatever event led to their Extermination by hand of the Highbloods to come after Hiveswap, or dare I say, happen as a result of the events in Hiveswap.
“heeeey have you seen this? I just discovered it and i love it /watch?v=5J4Qb0cb1A0 ashsaghfd I want moooore covers, any style, I just want more new covers!“
Ooooooh, I had never heard of a cover in this style! I like it.
Do you think Cronus’s scars were originally there from birth because his post-scratch version is DUALSCAR or did he just injure his forehead? Or another possibility: Someone injured his forehead just like Voldemort did to Harry Potter?
Cronus’ Dual Scars are a big reference to Harry Potter, Aranea even outright tells us that he says a Powerful Wizard tried to kill him when he was little and left him with those scars! But indeed, for him and Dualscar to have the exact same set of scars? Here’s my headcanon:
Karkat dropped Cronus as a grub and he smacked his little grub head on some sharp bit of metal on the meteor.
This is most definitely not 100% canon but, come on, wouldn’t that make sense? If both Pre and Post Scratch Versions have the same scar, chances are the scar happened before being sent through the meteors.
Then again.
There is a Dad Crocker and a Dad Egbert that are exactly the same. So it doesn’t even necessarily imply the scars HAD to happen before the Reckoning.
I really hope it's not a prequel. It would make everything that happens in Hiveswap not matter because we already know none of these characters appear in Homestuck
You really can’t hope for it to not be a prequel though, it is. However we don’t know that it doesn’t matter. First of all, the Cherub Portal could let them escape the fate of their planets some way. Second, given Scratch is involved, it’s likely all of this explains something we don’t know about from Homestuck just yet. Then, if Joey gets back to Earth and Jude survives whatever happens in Hauntswitch, they can still play SBURB when it comes out. Also Xefros and Dammek were going to be sent off-planet and exploited by the Alternian Empire in like, a few sweeps, we know their revolutionary efforts are going to do nothing, but they may pave the way for something later on. If anything, Hiveswap giving these characters attention is giving them a way to do something and perhaps escape the fate of their planets, rather than dooming them to it.
I haven't been keeping up with the olympics, but my partner told me an australian speed skater won because the skater above him in the quarter finals was disqualified and the skaters ahead of him in the semifinals and finals all crashed into each other so he was able to pass. sounds like a page of light to me XD
Wasn’t that a few years ago? Heh, slow and steady wins the race it seems!
Can you do an examination of Rogue of Time? That’s my classpect and I’m new-ish to the fandom (I started reading in 2015, just finished last month, am just starting to interact with the fandom).
Couldn't Roxy just pull the LE Lil Cal out of the Void and ... I dunno, burn it?
Who even knows where that thing is. Roxy can do two things- She can Void items and people out into the Furthest Ring, and she can make things that don’t exist appear.
The Lil Cal doll does exist, just somewhere in Non-Euclidean Eldritch Space. Roxy wouldn’t have any idea where to even begin, and it’s not like you can track something as Voidy down.
they CAN play sburb but they'll be like 29 and 25 by the time it comes out.
Yeah, I mean Fedorafreak went God Tier and he’s a middle-aged businessman. No reason why Joey and Jude couldn’t Ascend and live on forever in an. Empty unwinnable session.
some people seem to take so long to finish the comic meanwhile i finished it in 1 month and a half just cuz it was the first thing i did in the morning and last thing i did before going to bed. #proud
I mean some people don’t have too much free time or liveblog it slowly. Meanwhile a friend I got into it finished the comic in less than a week, and when I read it first, I caught up with Caliborn Enter in a week or so.
Could a rogue of hope win a session without a space player by stealing the Genesis frog through the hope of winning?
I’ve argued against the idea of getting a Genesis Frog in such a roundabout way because it would invalidate pretty much all of the game. If you don’t need to win normally to get the Universe, then what would the point of the game be? Players are Gods, but they’re not Omnipotent. And if there’s a restriction in SBURB, I would say that would be making the entire Universe.
What sort of good stuff can a Knight of Doom serve to others? Serve order or some sort of obligations, or maybe some oathes and pledges. Or may be such knight can serve technology (and maybe some systems). Or self-sacrifice? I don't know, really. What's your opinion or theories?
As per usual, Serving Doom to enemies is technically serving others through Doom, so that’s serving help and good stuff in a roundabout way? I do know what you mean, though, and… Outside of literally Serving others Through Doom, I can’t quite think of any too-positive way to Serve Doom to someone in a positive manner. I’d say oathes or pledges would be more Blood-based- But obligations? A Knight of Doom working as a supervisor and trying to get others to get shit done? I like that.
Why doesn't Dirk actually destroy souls? He just kinda relocates them. Isn't that what a Witch of Heart might do?
I mean, the tears Souls right out in a painful and violent way, it’s likely that either he doesn’t have enough power to Destroy Souls just yet, or that the ‘Destruction’ part would come AFTER tearing the Soul out, but he never quite goes through with it. Alternatively though? While Dirk is a Prince, he often acts like a Knight. Emulating Alpha Dave, being of service, and rejecting his ego and the worst parts of himself, so you could say when he puts Caliborn’s Soul in Lil Cal, he’s Giving it to the Doll, Serving his and ARquius and Gamzee’s Souls to Lil Cal.
I never really got the whole 'Derse and Prospit' thing. I mean all players have the same goal and are expected to work together, but the way its set up you'd be forgiven for thinking that Derse dreamers are supposed to stop Prospit dreamers.
SBURB is a messy thing, although the divergences in Dreaming in the two different Moons and the influence of the Horrorterrors and Skaia does make for some good duality that’s interesting to experience.
Arguably Mindfang? Aranea’s Mind Control is stronger than Vriska’s, so it’d make sense Mindfang’s is also stronger than hers. Vriska’s Ultimate Mode is basically cosplaying Mindfang and wielding her sword. Vriska may Steal Luck, but as long as Mindfang, the Sylph of Light, kept Making her own Luck, Vriska’s tricks may not quite work out.
...I remember sending something about geas a while ago... Geas seem to be the most doomy out of the "various vows and promises" group. But then you pointed out that they seem to be rather hopey.
a friend of mine told me that aspect roleplay doesn't exist, and when i tried to bring up the fact that OD basically said that Xefros is acting like a Knight of Time but is very clearly a Rage player, they just brushed it off because it's only Act 1, and talking about time all the time doesn't make him a Time player... but that's the kind of stuff that Homestuck does, right? how can i explain that to them? and are there other aspect roleplay things that i can use to help explain it?
I’m not exactly the best one to ask I’d say, I like the theory but OD does know way more about it than I do. That being said though, call it Roleplay or call it whatever you want, but it is a mechanic that’s confirmed in-canon.
UU: player abilities may also manifest in ways in defiance with their aspects if they are heavily resistant to their trUe calling. or, if corrUpted in some way by an oUtside inflUence.
We can see this in its most blatant form with Rose- Where she goes off the deep end to the point she goes Grimdark and becomes very Voidy. It’s not just her Aspect that changes though! Her attitude as well, and her way of using her powers, transcend Knowing and Guiding and focus on an extremely aggressive and active, spell-using, Aspect manipulation and alteration powers. She’s still driven by knowledge and the search for it before going Grimdark, but after, she’s outright going to fight Noir. Hell she even uses Consorts as Familiars, and is constantly said to be really Witchy.
However it doesn’t have to be corruption. Rose does mention, after all, how her drinking Alcohol was a way to connect with her mother- Taking a Symbol of Void and muddling her Light for it. This same take of a Symbol of someone is extremely obvious with Vriska! Except her Aspect matches that of her Ancestor… So her obsession with Mindfang can only manifest with her Class. And we really do see it. She takes on the imagery of the Fairy that’s associated with Sylphs. She’s constantly Making shit happen, trying to ‘Improve and Fix’ Tavros. Much like Rose’s search of Knowledge, ultimately a lot of what Vriska does comes down to Stealing the Spotlight, but you can see those behavioural quips coming from her admiring Mindfang and looking up to her.
The thing about saying “Talking a lot about Time doesn’t mean you’re Time”, is that. That’s not true? Constantly relating yourself to an Aspect- One which also makes sense due to societal expectations of the Timebound Rust Caste? That can’t just mean nothing, not to say it goes beyond him talking about Time, it’s in the Arena Stickball imagery, it’s in his constant Lack of Time to do the things he wants, in his slow-moving Lusus that makes him waste Time, not reaching Joey in Time and just waiting to bleed out or burn to death- His entire existence is being oppressed by Time honestly. Which is why we thought he was Time, because his themes with Time are EXTREMELY heavy. We’re not saying ‘Xefros roleplays the Time Aspect’ because we want to save our old theories- We say it because we’ve seen an OBVIOUS, blatant connection with Time, but we’ve been told he’s Rage, so there must be a reason why he’d be so connected with Time. And his Aspect? Yeah, being Forced into Service, just like Jane was forced to be Condy’s Heiress, just like Rose suppressed her true calling due to her more Active upbringing and her anger, leading her to act like a Witch.
I think on top of being representations of stereotypes on the internet, some of the dancestors are also flanderized versions of our trolls.
Rather, a lot of them seem flanderized versions of themselves, the Dancestors are basically Teens locked in a perpetual Echo Chamber of their flaws and drama, without a goal to work towards and being forced to eternity around the Bubbles, they are reduced to amplified versions of what they represent for the story.
On the other hand, it seems that Aranea had more time practing. So Minfang might not be as OP in that regard (she still'd got a long life). Furthermore, Vris is God Tier so she has more potential of getting powerfull and shiny then Mindfang who never player the game. Her light powers are probably not fully unlocked and "passibe" only... On the other hand, power levels are very situational and relative. And character power tiers do not always end up being dirrectly tied to god tier
I was going to add the ‘Vriska is God Tier so maybe…’ thing to the post about Vriska vs Mindfang, however then I remembered that Terezi is very much not God Tier, and that John made a tornado swirl through half of his planet before Ascending, and I don’t think actually dying in the Quest Bed makes that much of a difference if you’re just Powerful enough.
I'm Doom aspected and this month I have had the best luck I've had in years. I'm expecting next month to lose an arm or leg to balance all the good luck and get back to being the universe's punching bag.
I mean, if you don’t have a Quest Crypt, you also likely don’t have a Dream Self or a Quest Bed to begin with, they seem to be sort of standard in Sessions.
Award for least threatening villain goes to Grimbark Jade! It's okay though, she also gets the most adorable villain award.
I mean, she is adorable because, after all, she’s still Jade. But God Damn if the fact she has no problem drawing out her obscene amount of power, and is unfazed when it comes to mutilation and disembowelling, isn’t an actually rather scary combination.
What happens to all the dead bodies? We see what happens to a few, like Dream Jade is stuffed and prototyped and then all the troll^2 sprite nonsense, but there have been a lot more deaths than that. Should we just assume that Gamzee collects them all even from the beta kids' session because Rage Bullshit?
John implied Jade sort of warp-buried the corpses on the Lands. The ones in the GO! Timeline just stay there because they’re dead and in a doomed Timeline, to fade away. The only one I can think of that’s unaccounted for is… Condy’s body.
…
Did we all collectively turn our backs on the body?
Shit she didn’t even get a post-death scene, no view of it in the lead-up to Act 7, no burial or anything. Is she still out in the open of Derse? Or. Is there something else.
Concept: there's an identical cherub portal in the alpha kids' timeline's earth. that earth (spoilers) is brought to Universe C. the Hiveswap/Hauntswitch characters do some technological rearranging, and whoopsy daisy, they're all sucked into Earth C! (Not sure how likely that even is. just putting it out there)
It will be really sweet if it happens but who knows.
re: Bec Noir having way more of Dave's prototypings than anyone else - we see the Black Queen with the tentacles and stuff, but did Jack have the tentacles pre Bec? and then did they just go away post Bec? what happened to the tentacles?
He did have Tentacles pre-Bec, and they faded along with the hat. He can summon them at will post-Bec addition. Also I mean, he does have the sword and wings that are more ‘predominantly Dave’s prototypings’ but honestly it feels more like. For the aesthetics.
We did kinda discuss how it didn't make sense for her to just die. So maybe something will come of it. That'd be awesome
I’ve argued a lot of times totally reasonable explanations why she wouldn’t come back to life, BUT given we did turn our back on the body, it’d only make sense she came back just to flip us the bird.
could Noir have just... chosen the cooler prototypings to keep active at all times? because Bec needs to be there in order for him to use any of his First Guardian powers, the sword and the wings are necessary for fighting and flying respectively, and the single arm is the only thing remaining from Harlequinsprite but that's likely something that he can't actually change... and then there's Jaspersprite, who has... what exactly to benefit Noir?
Cat princessness. Appetite for fish. Chances are he can’t just turn off everything, but having tentacles all the time and also being a dog and having wings may have ruined the look, so he only gets them at times.
I headcanon this for a Knight of Void. By serving others void when they are fighting they can void a hole through their enemies being able to deliver strikes that hit organs (basically a portal opens and leads to like the enemies heart so they can punch their heart) all while serving their enemy void in their eyes causing blindness
Oooh, interesting way of using Void as a Knight! :3
