Are seer and mages on the same level of knowing? does one class naturally have more knowledge than the other, or is it more dependent on the player ? you stated that a seer of light is near omniscience does that also apply to a mage of light ? is the difference not in the amount of knowledge but instead how its used ?
Dependent on the player, and more distinct on how it’s used, or obtained for those two. Whenever I say something like, “Oh, X Class would be able to do this”, you can assume that the Passive or Active counterpart of that Class would ALSO be able to do something similar, if not exactly the same, in some way or another. It really only depends on the individual person, their own personal tendencies, and what they’re using the powers for. As I’ve said, Seers seem to tend to gather information, and use it to guide others, while Mages seem more oriented towards insight and visions, and use this information to do things by themselves, but even this can be interchangeable depending on the situation- Like Meulin using her knowledge of relationships to get people together, but doing it just because she wants to see her Ships made Canon, or Rose merely knowing what route the Meteor needs to take, but using it as a Guide to help everyone reach the new Session.
Question: when did you realize that you are funny?
Hussie: This is a really odd question. I'll accept the premise for a moment, and start rambling.
I think I actually remember when I realized I WASN'T funny. It was a really long time ago, maybe when I was in high school. And I drew some dumb bullshit comics of some vaguely humorous nature and assumed they were objectively funny because they were meant to be. They were "funnies". And those are automatically funny.
But then a little later I took a look at those comics. One series was about a singing snail, and I guess there were some others. And I thought, "Holy shit, this isn't funny at all. What was I thinking?" And then later, gradually, I put a more concerted effort into understanding what is funny. I think it was a pretty slow climb. It was also a gradual process of becoming less of a dumbass. Dumbasses think stupid shit is funny, and that can be a major handicap.
The biggest key to being funny is to not be a dumbass. Really stupid people have a hard time being funny (intentionally). The smarter you are, the better the odds you have of being funny. Note that sometimes you run into really smart people who aren't funny, or lack a sense of humor. But note, this is VERY STRONG evidence that they are not nearly as smart as they appear to be! In my view at least.
When I equate humor as a product of intelligence, I mean it is primarily a product of awareness. The more you are aware of, and the more insight you have into a myriad of things, the more you will be able to successfully illuminate absurdity, and the more clever ways to accomplish this you will be able to conceive of. Awareness lends itself to an agile imagination. This is why stupidity is such comedic poison. Awareness of the world and that from which you draw your satirical muse is deadened by the mind-blunting forces that are associated with stupidity. These forces primarily are a lack of concentration and dedication, and inalertness to all that surrounds you and all content you are exposed to. As well as being quick to judge and label whatever does manage to get through the pinhole. Those are brain killers and comedy killers. They lead to hackneyed work at best, and incredibly awful, prejudicial, bigoted stuff at worst.
Now I don't mean to say I'm a real smart guy and that's why I'm funny, or EVEN VICE VERSA. I'm just pointing out that, in thinking back, becoming less obtuse and deepening my understanding of as much as possible was a turning point in beginning to understand what is and isn't funny.
This is gonna sound really dumb and has probably already been answered, but what other ways are there to survive the Scratching of a session?
Not being in the Session/Universe and Dying to get to the Bubbles are the two ways shown in canon, and really, the easiest ones. I could think of other ways however, perhaps certain Void Players could void themselves and the group out of existence for a moment and blink back in after the Scratch has happened. Alternatively, a powerful Time and Space Player together may be able to create a pocket in the Session that isn’t affected by the powerful Time-Space energies released by the Scratch and erasing everything around them.
Otherwise, though, you really are just better off finding out a way to exit the Session.
I think the only force that could ever be omnipotent in Homestucks universe would be if all 12 Lords of all 12 Aspects came together and did something.
Yep. Each of the Aspects is a facet of reality, it doesn’t matter how much control you have over one Aspect- Unless you have full control of all 12 Aspects, there will always be something that eludes you. I mean- 12 Muses would work too.
Can you explain Intermission 1? So the Midnight Crew are exiles from the A2 session, and the Felt are Caliborn's leprechauns from his C1 session, but how did they both get to the green moon in A2 and why were they there? I remember something about leprechauns in an oven in a clock, but didn't the clock go to B2? I have a hard time following all the loops when they involve more than one or two universes.
The Midnight Crew are the Dersite Agents of the Beta Troll’s Session, yes, and the city they are in is the Exile City Spades Slick built on post-apocalyptic Alternia. However, there’s no explanation as to how the Leprechauns get to A2, I always assumed that, being basically servants gifted to Caliborn by the game, he just summoned them there through Bullshit Lord English Majyyks. It could also have to do with the fact the Green Moon was warped there by Doc Scratch, though. Hmmm.
Lord of Hope would win a dead session by coming up with an elaborate master-theory that "explains" sburb mechanics. And then would awesomly abuse loopholes. Except that their theory was, while perfectly rational, rather detached from actual reality. Paradox Space just decided not to agrue with them.
Truly believing they were right so hard even Paradox Space kind of stepped aside just in case.
In a Session where everyone is a light player. Except for space and time. There are 12 players. 5/6 are fighting for information/spotlight/awesomness/literally everything. Or collaborating over the "THEORY CHARTS" that explains all the SBURB.
Space and Time Players are so, so very tired of the Light Players, know-it-alls and blabbermouths the lot of them!
Session where everyone is a Prince would be a disaster. Everything is in pieces including the unfortunate royalty. Until someone climbs out of the self-destruction pith.
how do you think an all seer session would go? I can imagine it being split between: Do almost nothing but suggest things/give advice, and do everything, mainly relating to the respective aspects, because they know how to and no one else is doing The Thing, whatever it may be, with the best ending, in my mind, being a super knowledgeable circle of seers that win and claim their prize of moving into the new universe pretty easily
I bet it would be them getting spoiled about the entire Session and struggling to determine what is a Stable Time Loop and what is a Doomed Timeline, arguing about outcomes that conflict with each other and constantly warning each other about every action they take. They would get shit done though.
The session full of Pages. After they get their shit together and deal with confidence and escapism issues, they proove to be pretty capable.
Oh god, a Session full of Pages is a Paradox, they get others to Serve them, and tend to have means to evade doing things they don’t want to do, which means they’re constantly pitying the others to try and help them but not actually ever getting anything done themselves or helping out.
Alternatively they DO help out, which makes it basically equivalent to a Session full of Knights since they’d be Serving each other.
Can someone of one aspect share some minor qualities of other aspects. Say a Doom player that has some minor qualities of a Void and Rage player but is over all Doom.
Of course, you can’t expect to divide every single person in the world neatly into 12 categories, that’s just impossible. Everyone is unique. Classpect personality stuff is broad and non-specific.
A Session of Knights. Aka the one where despite awesome management and incredible competence of everyone inwolved, despite the willingness to actually do things. Things go awry halfway through due to players overworking themselves, failing to cope with ludicrous ammout of mental issues that were apparently buried deep within or obtained at some point of the game and so on. They get better tho.
What would Mr. Satan's god tier be in Dragon Ball Z?
He’s a Lord of Light. He’s very well known and kind of cocky about his skills, even though literally every named character in the series could kick his ass as far as I recall. But it’s not the Spotlight I want to focus in, it’s the Luck- Somehow even though he’s pretty much useless, the guy manages to always elude being found out as a sham and doesn’t get like, obliterated at any point that I can remember. (It’s been years though, maybe he does and I forgot). That’s extremely lucky. Doesn’t he also get like, super friendly with Majin Buu? Even though he’s a threat to everything ever. This Luck of his may seem passive, but I’m treating it the Lord English way- Where the Timeline just falls to favor him, to Mr. Satan, Luck just happens to favor him. At least power-wise.
How do you see a 12 player all thief session? I see it has aspect hoarder/selfish session, I don't think they would even work together with each other, but that might just be me
See, a 12 Thief Session I can see one or two ways. Either everyone ends up screwing everyone else over- Or they are all 12 powerful solo players that happen to be doing what they’re best at through the Session without interfering with each other, which lets them basically Speedrun the game.
I'm pretty sure Goku is probably a Hope player, maybe a Lord of Hope?
Master Class sure could be, guy hardly ever seems to run out of power-up stages, seriously. I want to tentatively include “Page, but has their potential unlocked from the very beginning, and it only keeps getting bigger” to the list of possibilities as well- Specially that aloof personality of his, which just doesn’t match the Lord too much in my eyes. Aspect, I don’t really remember enough about him to tell.
from what I know about Goku, I've always assumed he's a breath player, dude just wants to fight strong people as well as get stronger himself, doing good in the process is more of a side effect, like how the e-zodiac describes the breath bound as working, I'm not sure about the class though
I actually like Breath for Goku- Heroic Protagonist, but what you mentioned, but also, the detachment- That aloofness I mentioned before. Yessss.
I just had a dream about 2 sessions that were able to contact each other, and the first thing they said was “ hey there, we’re the guys that made your universe. “ immediately followed by “ no, we made your universe ” before the time players started to cry
Rogues and Thieves can potentially be like a Page by stockpiling their Aspect until they reach a point where they create an Aspectsplosion like a Thief of Rage stealing so much Rage that they buff themselves up to Hulk like levels
I mean, they would likely be able to reach Hopefield levels of Aspect Stockpiling, but I feel like that’s just one of many things Pages are able to do. Also Thieves may have a harder time than Pages merely by the fact Steal implies they have to take it from Somewhere, but Pages are inherently kind of a big well of potential.
With infinite possible sessions it would mean that there is a session for every possible class/aspect and combo with infinite possible amounts of players.
I mean, except there’s not really infinite possible Sessions because there’s a finite amount of people playing SBURB in the world! Unless you mean Fan Sessions in which case, yes.
What would happen if somebody were to play the game and enter while pregnant? Would the game freak out? Would the baby (once they're born) be considered a player?
Given you can enter with a Family Member and not have the Family Member be considered a Player, I don’t see why the unborn child should be any different.
Besides a Witch of Life, what other classpect could create an afterlife or something of the sort?
See, this is a tricky one, because while “Changing Life” is definitely what the Bubbles did, she was only able to do it through her connection to the Horrorterrors- One of the few forces in Homestuck that come the closest to actually being Omnipotent Gods. (Although as I’ve mentioned before, nothing in Homestuck is truly Omnipotent or Omniscient, but yeah)
So while it thematically fits the Witch of Life, not every Witch of Life would be able to pull off a feat like the Bubbles. In fact, given the connection to the Horrorterrors, a Void Player could have a better time, generally speaking, than another Witch of Life.
That aside? Heart would definitely be the Aspect to look into, Souls being the most important part of the equation when it comes to an Afterlife. Lord/Muse of Heart may be the best option for something like this.
Hey do you think my blog is a good idea ( @im-bored-and-also-like-homestuck ) (I'm on anon so nobody will go to my main blog)
Of course! Not like you need anyone’s approval to do a little blog idea, hell this blog was just a little side-project I did on a whim because I wanted to talk about Homestuck and I love it way too much. Hyperfixations yay.
No, I mean what I said in the the first post. Like sprite fusions alchemizations and such
I know what you meant, I’m saying that showing your passion in the Fandom doing a project like that is great, and even if I said ‘no, it’s not a good idea’, you really don’t need validation to have fun in the Fandom! So good luck. :3
im currently making a skill tree for a Rogue of Rage, any ideas on what should be on it? powers and the likes
If you’re doing a Skill Tree in the sense of choosing to go down one branch or another, you should consider a divide between Pacifying and Enraging. After all, by Taking Rage one can calm others down, but you can also stockpile Rage for yourself. A Rogue of Rage may also work as having a branch to be a Tank? If they Steal everyone’s Rage, you could say they’re directing everyone’s hatred towards them- So either literally Aggroing others, or acting like a Heel could be a thing.
so can a light player not be comfortable with the spotlight ? or a void player have an obsession with learning all the secrets ?
I would say, yeah. Classes and Aspects, when it comes to personality, it’s all about broader strokes of the personality rather than hyper-specific stuff. Like Time, I bet there are Timebound people that aren’t specially rambunctious fighters, even though that’s what the Time description says. So a Void Player may want to unveil mysteries, but maybe in doing so, their hyperfocus on mysteries could mean they’re not interested in learning EVERYTHING, rather, just the interesting, weird bits. And a Light Player can definitely be comfortable not being in the Spotlight, you can easily take Luck and Information as a more focal point than Spotlight. I mean look at Aranea. Sure, she took on a more Light = Relevancy and Spotlight role with the Game Over timeline, but up until then she was like. Offering advice and getting ignored when she rambled too much about stuff. All she wanted was to talk to people about stuff, not to necessarily be relevant. Although she did like talking about what was relevant at the time.
so would the steal and know void classes be good with forensics and detective stuff in general ? as they steal/know all the secrets, and since forensics and detective stuff is all about obfuscation of knowledge and secrets wouldn't they be simply the best
I feel with the right Aspect, you could have good detective and forensic stuff with nearly any Class. Even then, I feel if you just stretch it a liiittle bit, you could have virtually anyone being good with that stuff. Like a Mind Player could think like a criminal and sort of be a step ahead, or a Light Player may shed some metaphorical light on a case that’s been cold for a long time, it all depends on the spin you give.
Based off the anon saying the light aspects love being in the spotlight makes sense. It seems to me a Rogue of Light would steal away their shine and give it to someone more 'deserving'?
Yeah, could be! Reason why I said it’s broad traits rather than anything set in stone.
Do you think a particularly ambitious Witch of Hope with incredibly intense amounts of belief could modify reality to the point of altering an entire timeline? Related to that, would a transfer of classes from Heir to Muse and Witch to Lord be feasible?
Changing through their Beliefs is something a Witch of Hope would be able to do- But the extent of said Change and its influence are debatable. What kind of change to the Timeline? If it’s merely swaying the events one way or another, that could certainly happen. If it’s got to do with Doomed and Alpha Timelines, and predestination, you’d need a bigger Deus Ex Machina to pull it off.
Also, as I’ve mentioned in the past, I don’t quite agree with the concept of switching Classes or Aspects noticeably, like- Call it Roleplay, call it Inversion, but all the shows of Classpect-switching we’ve seen are temporary, and tend to be rather unhealthy, so I find Classes and Aspects so deeply rooted in people that permanent changes like that would go against their very base nature. But who knows!
A Witch of Rage twisting their sessionmates against one another with blackmail and manipulation, perhaps making them target their rage at each other instead of at the witch?
Do you have any idea what a classpect for someone who just drifts through life constantly would be? Like they don’t really have any goals or objectives and they just wander? Basically very apathetic and indifferent. Also I really like your blog Mr. Seer, and I hope you keep chugging away!
Why thank you! A Heir, perhaps a Heir of Void could fit, deeply malleable by their environment, affected by the Lack of Purpose… A Heir of Breath could work as well, I mean look at John, the moment he lost his purpose fighting in SBURB he got Depressed and started to sulk in his room.
I had this thought for a while but ... could the Underlings of a Lord show what the other classes can do with the same aspect? Like Caliborns felt troop and all their time powers.
I. Actually have no idea you know, I’ve never stopped to actually analyze what the Felt’s Classpect would even be. I don’t think their powers necessarily tie to the Classpect Powers, though, mainly because they use a lot of Juju Bullshit, but they do have some potentially fun things to emulate as a Time Player.
