March 2018

What if every aspect had a "grimdark" state, and it's just only void that we've seen so far?

I mean, there’s sort of three kinds of Grimdarkness, there’s Horrorterror-induced Grimdarkness (Rose), which is tilting her towards the Void because Horrorterrors are Void and also the Light-Void relation. There’s Corruption Grimdarkness (Jade), where it seems to be merely a mind-controlled, empowered state, like bringing out your full power, which in her case was Space-leaning. And then there’s just Edgy Grimdarkness (Eridan), where your skin doesn’t actually go dark grey, it’s simply that you get all murderous and grimdark, thematically, because you’re murderous.

I don't want to think of my trickster mode, but here I am

Just think of the most awful way you could be while still smiling wide.

And then there's like.. Life Grimdarkness (trickster mode). At the very least, it's really similar.

I mean, I’m counting Grimdarkness as literally the concept of Grimdark in media- Trickster Mode is corruption, but it’s like, pretty much the opposite of Grimdarkness. Kind of like Jake’s Jollybrightness.

How long would you say it would take to go through homestuck? Including all of the dialog.

Depends? I caught up to where it was when I started reading, in the Summer, in less than a week. A friend read the entirety of it in a week. I once translated it, reading along for my sister, and it took us like a month to catch up. Then you have Livebloggers who comment every page or every bunch of pages and say theories along the way that have been reading for years. And then there’s also the fact that even though I read it all, I’ve been re-reading and analizing and theorizing and just loving it for five years. So it depends! You can get through it in a week-ish if you’re fast, or in a month just more casually. If you wanna go more in-depth every step of the way or are really, really, really busy, it may take longer.

Wait what’s “Jake’s Jollybrightness”?

Hope Bubble. Cute fan name.

What kind of exile is ms paint? Like where did she come from?

She’s part of the Prospitian Entourage that follows WQ of Prospit after the Reckoning start, so it’s possible she’s some sort of servant at the Prospit Palace?

So what ways do you think that the aspects could negatively impact the players?

Aspects are supposed to embody something about you, and as such they also embody negative traits. No Aspect is fully positive, no Aspect is fully negative. As such, whether it’s you being overcome by your Aspect- Say, a Rage Player going Berserk or a Void Player just fading away into Irrelevancy- Or you refusing or being unable to control your Aspect- Like a Life Player bound to servitude or a Hope Player having a Crisis of Faith, there’s a myriad different ways anyone could struggle with their Aspect. They are innate tendencies and leanings, but whether you need to find a balance, get more of your Aspect, or not let it get to you, it all depends on you individually.

Do you think that Remele is blind in her pupiless eye?

It’d make sense? She literally has nowhere to get light from on that eye.

Could a mage of void know everything that is not known, like all the secrets of the session or the other players for example?

Likely, yeah.

I headcanon that Cirava's missing eye would be pink. Pink and neon green would be a nice combination, right?

Seems to be their Aesthetic!

So is a first guardian strictly part of the game or the world itself?

They’re implied to be protectors of the Planets, but so far we’ve only seen First Guardians come from the game, but given they’re made from a Genetic Sequence, it’s possible there could be normal First Guardians around.

I just thought about it, so Lord english basiclly controls alternia, and the lime blood caste got utterly eradicated. It was the caste with calliopes blood and Lord english had got rid of more like bloods

Yep, he REALLY hates Calliope.

Do you think there is a limit to alchemy or could you just keep improving an object indefinitely

There’s technically a limit, numerically there’s a finite number of possible Alchemy Combinations, but it’s likely if you can think of an improvement to something, you can alchemize it.

Have you noticed that the female purple bloods have a white and orange or more complicated.

Do they? I mean so far Chahut is the only precedent for that, and her orange isn’t even makeup, it’s her fangs. I think Baizli and Barzum are NB.

I'd like to get your opinion & maybe some suggestions but I was thinking about the Heart aspect and wondering if things like Splinters should be a Dirk specific thing, or more of a Prince of Heart thing? Do all of the other Heart Class combos have their own sort of -splinter- deal, and what might they be called?

Splinters are a way of calling what’s basically multiple versions of oneself, branching out at some point. In a way, Davesprite is a splinter of Dave, so it’s not even a Heart-exclusive thing! However- Given Heart deals with the Self and the Soul, Mind and Heart may be the two Aspects more prone to having a splinter of themselves pop up somehow.

I've been thinking about it and ... can we really blame Caliborn for how he is? Not trying to defend his actions or smth but Cherub biology made sure that he'd be a insufferable bastard

Cherubs ARE coded to have a Good and Evil duality, but look at Alt Calliope. She’s good, yeah but she’s super isolated and like… Alien to feelings entirely. An Evil Cherub is most likely, naturally, a chaotic and destructive being. In this way, when he becomes Lord English, he appears almost a bit more akin to what a normal Evil Cherub could be.

Caliborn, however, grows up, like Calliope, learning about Humans and interacting with others. Without this isolationist view, Calliope learns Romance and Love, something that she implies should be impossible for Cherubs. This theme is actually prevalent through Homestuck, with the Vantases having different takes on the Quadrants than is implied to be normal, with Dirk’s struggle to be good, and knowing he could easily just become a manipulative asshole, overcoming a way he seems to just be in general, in the same way Dave grapples with Toxic Masculinity. Homestuck is all about seeing that not even biology or soul truly encompasses who you are, that you Make yourself every moment you exist, that you shape who you are and can develop beyond what you may think you are.

So he cannot be excused, because he too goes against his Cherub ‘coding’ as evil, he actually shows to be interested in fluff and romance, even though he makes it creepy and weird- And that’s the difference. He’s just. Unapologetic about how awful, misogynistic, and fetishistic he is, he revels in it and flips you off if you even try to provide the slightest amount of criticism.

Eliminating a WHOLE troll caste just because he hates his sister... What a shame...

“AND YOU JADES ARE ON THIN FUCKING ICE.” I can imagine him saying that.

so do you think Lime bloods being exceptionally strong in both psychic ability and physical strength is true or was that just an excuse to slaughter them?

We don’t even actually know WHY they were exterminated, they presented a threat to the social order, and many people headcanon they could pacify other Trolls, but like… We don’t know yet.

Well we do see that even as a mutant blood karkat is still technically a lime blood, and he did pacify gamzee when nothing else would

Yeah but he’s also a Knight of Blood, so there’s a conflict of potential powers there.

*AU where each character goes down the wrong road and becomes the worst possible outcome for their class*

:c

do you have any headcanons for limebloods?

Nothing much actually! I think maybe they could be tied to First Guardians, though?

i think Caliborn acting that way is still kinda justified by the fact that he's still the evil half, so of course Calliope would actually be more interested in romance and "good" because she has the potential for it whereas Caliborn does not, it'd literally be going against his biology. I think the definition for "good" and "evil" in Cherubs could vary if they were influenced by other species but take into account that whatever happens is still justified by the inherent divide in the species

I mean, no yeah it does fit thematically for their duality, so it could just be the good/evil duality thing, I still don’t like kinda lessening his choice on the matter because of the good/evil divide though. Guy revels in his assholery.

speaking of i wonder if it's possible for a good cherub to make an "evil" decision and vice versa. I've always thought philosophically good and evil are subjective so the fact that an entire species was predisposed where one is evil and the other is good is just kinda, odd? and bland in a thematic way unless they have interactions that cause this to vary (like with Calliope and Caliborn) but I still wonder how "strict" is that divide

Indeed, Good and Evil are subjective. I mean, look at Aranea. Technically her purpose was Good and Heroic, she just went about it in an absolutely awful way, but she WAS technically doing things for the Greater Good, selflessly, and wanting to become a Martyr to save Paradox Space. I’d say Cherubs can fall into that as well.

Vision Twofold

I just reread Sollux’s introduction, and at the anon that asked about Vision Twofold- Yeah as I thought, it’s a joke. Prophets are usually Blind because it’s thematic, so being ‘gifted with vision twofold’ basically just means ‘Hey, you’re a prophet, but not a BLIND prophet. Yet.’

Was the whole end game "plan" of the last act to distract LE with the house juju and whatever came out of it, while god tier callopia destroyed the green sun. I know they have no connection to each other as they had no idea of the others plan. However, muse power does have some influence, but I don't know how subtle it can be.

They were completely separate plans that happened to work together because of Circumstantial Simultaneity.

Which in a way, given that could tie into Muse of Space territory, it could’ve been just an unplanned, fated end.

Any theories regarding the house juju?

Curiously, in a way, rather than give John new powers, it’d seem it just amplified his Heir of Breath Powers. With Breath regarding the Plot and Detachment, and the Heir being a Change Class.

what if the other kids got to touch the House juju? if it just amplified John's powers how would it amplify say Rose's or Dave's? also which god tier would have elasticity powers?

Space sounds like a good bet? Either way, I have no idea, because while it’s a headcanon of mine that it amplified John’s powers, I have no idea if it IS what it does, nor to what extent some powers could be driven in canon.

The first time I read Homestuck it was on my phone, and a lot of animations or parts of the comic wouldn’t load, but I don’t have a comuter available often enough to read it there, where it can all load up. Any clue where I could read it where it works? I’ve been told that there’s stuff on YouTube but I haven’t done any good searches yet.

There’s a channel exclusively dedicated to uploading Homestuck Flashes, and ordered by Act! Some thumbnails can be a bit spoiler-y, but you can check them here.

Is the cancer always inside the battlefield, or was it present because of trolls doing something?

The Tumor was specially big and powerful for the Kids because of the Cancerous Frog, however, The Tumor itself is a game construct that happens in all Null Sessions, or perhaps in all Sessions but can be successfully removed if it’s not Null, meant to destroy the Session if it’s too messed up.

Maybe he got like a mix of all the kids powers from the house juju

That’s another possibility, since Space, Time and Light could easily be tied to his Zappy thing! It’s up to anyone’s guess really.

I really really want Hussie’s commentary on Act 6.

i don’t know if you’re the right person to ask i this, but what kind of powers might a knight of blood (karkat) get when god tiered? i’m thinking of writing a fic but i can’t really come up with powers for him. i’m thinking powers useful in a battle. thank you so much if you answer this, or maybe direct me to someone who might have an idea

I talked a little bit about it a while back! This is your weekly reminder to check the tags in case I’ve answered a Classpect before! Additionally, it’s interesting to note the Red Miles are Blood-coded.

To go along with the red miles being connected to blood, in cascade Bec Noir does seem to summon the miles from WVs blood on his hand. Then again, there are times like when DD used the miles that no blood seemed to be present (if I’m remembering correctly)

Yeah, blood is not necessarily needed to be present, but it very visually evokes Blood.

What matters more when choosing a character's classpect? Theme or personality?

Both? I would say the Personality is the most important part, but sometimes, some themes are just too fitting to pass up on, and personalities can merely be tendencies.

It’s interesting that, while being the caretakers o the Hemospectrum, the Jadebloods true sign is a Space player. But that fits with Space too, I guess, though that sounds more Life-y.

If you consider it as biological Life yeah, but Space’s ties to Creation, Isolation and Motherhood tie it extremely to the Jadebloods.

What is your personal theory about why Equius was smiling when he died?

Erotic Asphixiation.

*When you want to draw a homestuck au of your characters but you lost your stylus and you know you'll lose motivation in the morning*

Ever tried drawing with your mouse? I started drawing with my mouse for smaller characters, and got used to coloring and doing more intricate things by mouse. I tend to prefer it for Pixel Art regardless of size, actually. I use my tablet for less pixel-y things though. But you could see about giving it a try!

yooo do you have an art blog??

Not really, I post my art on my main blog! I don’t draw nearly enough to justify having an art blog. I used to do commissions but drawing is more of a hobby for me, it becomes really draining to turn it into a job.

I think one of my all time quotes from mspfa is "boy you dodged some bullets by ending the world in 2009"

Lmao.

I don't draw with a computer, I use a drawing app on a big samsung tablet

Ooooh, mhmm mhmm.  Actually, am I weird to ALSO prefer drawing with my fingers on a touchscreen? Like… The stylus feels disjointed and a bit laggy for me.

Hey so I’ve recently seen a lot of people claim that the fact that trolls are hermaphrodidic (spelling???? Sorry) as undeniable canon, do you know if there was actually ever any evidence of that or if it’s just been so engrained in fanon that people accepted it as fact?

It’s not 100% canon, but it’s implied by the fact Troll Reproduction works with anyone regardless of gender, so either the source of the Slurry doesn’t matter as long as it’s mixed, or that it comes from the same set of junk on everyone, equally.

If lowblooded Ancestors had "The '_______'" as title and highblooded Ancestors had unique titles, then why "The Grand Highblood"?

Well, he has “The Grand”, not “The” as the start of his title! It’s hard to say though. Then again remember that this is Adult Kurloz, the ways of a murdermime are mysterious like those of a murderclown.

It's weird to think that the Ancestors and the Beforan trolls are supposed to be the same trolls, coz Kurloz is more skeletons, whereas GHB is more Goliath-y

I mean, Highblood’s shirt and facepaint does sort of evoke a ribcage and skull to me! Not as evidently as Kurloz, but a little bit.

Is there a reason as to why we don't see multiple meenahs and araneas in the dream bubbles?

We actually do! There’s multiple Araneas and Meenahs in the Ghost Army.

Are Cherubs immortal? (as long as they aren't killed)

Likely biologically immortal, and also incredibly resistant to anything that isn’t like, violent damage to their bodies. Calliope and Caliborn can survive under the heat of a Red Giant, and Adult Cherubs can fly through space, so that’s, straight away, resistance to extreme cold, extreme heat, radiation, and no need to breathe. And that’s just their base forms, when they are going to do the do and become giant snakes, they’re practically indestructible.

Also turns out I didn't lose motivation! I'm about to go buy a new stylus, and if you want I'll show you the au.

Nice! Yeah!

Who's shorter? The Soleil twins or Who is this? ?

We don’t know yet, tbh I want to see the sprites next to each other in-game so we can get accurate size differences. I’m imagining the similarly-aged characters are the same height, but like. Chahut or Konyyl for example look like they’d be taller.

Fuck 4/13 is next month

Troll Call ended on 3/14, Hiveswap Act 2 will likely come out on 4/13.

I have a small personal hc that breath players are good singers because they can kind of control the breath that goes out of their lungs when they talk/sing? Because I'm breath and I sing well so I like to think it's because of that.

Yeah, that’s a likely one!

I wonder why breath is the only aspect that is partially tied to what we consider 'a usual elemental power'

Well, I mean the Betas are sort of associated to the 4 Classic Elements, so it’s possible Hussie also intended the others to be associated to their Elements to begin with, before the Trolls and adding another 8 Aspects on the mix happened. That being said, with its ties to Freedom, “Room to Breathe” “A Breath of Fresh Air”, “Free Like the Wind”, it mostly seems to stem from wordplay, so the Aspect regarding Freedom would of course be tied to Wind.

If someone were to make a Limeblood canon the perfect sin would be Canun.

Canun or Camini are my fave Lime symbols.
