would an heir of blood kinda be like the mom friend

A bit? There’s a bunch of Classpects that could be described as Mom Friends really.

why's a heir called heir? or a bard bard? where's the connection between their powers and titles?

That is a hard one to answer! I don’t think I have a solid answer to it, actually, there’s some rhyme and reason to them but I wouldn’t be able to tell you 100% why right now. It may be some Archetypes Hussie planned or adapted, it may be references to things I haven’t thought quite yet. I’m sure knowing this is 100% certainly is one of the big keys to knowing what Hussie intended the Classes to be.

it’s weird how active/passive fit the selfish/selfless thing cuz a lot of the active players would DIE for there friend (much like the passive ones) like damn (dirk, rose when witchy, jade, vriska,) just speculation

Oh yeah, a lot of active characters would die for their friends, but being selfish doesn’t exactly mean not caring about others. Selfishness as a positive trait just comes from ensuring you’re in a good shape to help those you care about. At her most Active, Rose went to exact revenge on Bec Noir, a very blunt and selfish thing to do, driven by her own motivation of revenge, even if it was for someone else, it clouded her judgement. Dirk struggles in how overbearing he can be and how he’s not exactly as good treating others as he is treating himself. On the opposite side, you have Roxy, who values others to the point of self-destructiveness. Selfishness and Selflessness aren’t uniquely negative or positive traits, and it doesn’t mean they ONLY think of themselves or of others. But they’re big tendencies. Jade tried to help everyone- But in turn she disregarded how her dead Dream Self may have felt, knowing only to trust herself for the task, and overwrote Bec’s entire self with Jadesprite, at which point she herself hated seeing how hopeless and selfish she was being- Because it reminded her of her own more negative traits. Jade has ALSO been extremely influenced by dreaming on Prospit, making her more passive than her Class would dictate.

There’s a lot of nuance and specificity to the Active/Passive divide.

killing lowbloods is normal in troll culture but what would happen if a low blood killed a high blood? ie rust blood kills an indigo or something

That’s likely considered a crime. Given Highbloods just seem to be okay murdering Lowbloods by the Hundreds I don’t even think they’d have a Trial, they’d just get murdered right on the spot.

do you think a breath player could actively seek the role of a leader? i think i could be breath-bound, but i love being in charge and usually aim to be a leader.

I mean, though… A leader in what capacity. You can’t just be a ‘leader’, you have to be a leader of something. Breath is all about chasing your own goals too, and I guess in some situation you COULD argue a Breath Player could have being a leader of some sort as their goal? But also remember the detachment. Maybe that’s what you mean. You don’t care about what you’re the leader of as long as you’re in a position of Leadership- That lack of commitment and just wanting the role would perhaps fit.

Although that sounds kind of an unhealthy reason to be in the role of a leader.

do you think that there can be an odd number of players in a session?

Yeah!

Different anon but what if a highblood killed another highblood?

That depends on what terms this may happen on. If unprompted and having the dead Highblood being of an equal or higher caste, I could see there being legal complications. However we see Trolls can just sort of. Bet their lives in roleplaying games, so if it was like, a challenge of “the loser gets culled”, it’d be totally okay.

could a witch of blood have the possibility to be a total bitch with their powers? or is that a witch of heart? or is it both?

I’m pretty sure any Classpect could be a huge 8itch? Being mean or manipulative or abusive or whatever can likely fit any Classpect if you put enough thought behind it.

Since the beta kids knew about their guardian’s session, they were able to figure out where it was and escape to it before the scratch. Do you think it’d be possible for players to escape the scratch and stumble upon a random session if they didn’t know where they were going in paradox space?

Depend on how they escape. I’d assume the easiest way would be through the Furthest Ring, but remember, there’s. Nothing. No landmarks, nothing to guide yourself with in the Furthest Ring. You’d need a Seer of some kind that was able to predict something, to have your Time and/or Space Players to dedicate a chunk of the Session merely to learn about the Furthest Ring, and some means of propelling some sort of ship through literal nothing. If you’re saying stumbling across a random Session? It may happen by mere chance. Or they could spend Millennia in the same location, unmoving, before crashing into a future version of their empty ship. Predicting the Furthest Ring is nigh-impossible. Navigating it for Trolls and Kids was a fluke. And don’t even get me started on the meta of John and Jade escaping by literally breaking the Fourth Wall.

how does a universe become cancerous...? did karkat have something to do with it because of his sign and all

They messed up the genetic code by missing one last frog.

Could one troll purposely fucking up the Genesis frog be fitting for a derse bard of life violetblood? If not, what way of fucking up the end result would be fitting?

Wait actually it was prospit not derse sorry

It’d depend on the goal, not the process. Why would you fuck up the Genesis Frog?

The goal is to make sure that a time loop doesn't break (the time loop involves a certain character's gaurdian and time travel) would that be fitting?

If it’s a Time Loop it’d make more sense for the Time Player, or at least instigated by the Time Player with the Bard being used for the process. Though generally it’s up to the Space Player in the end? Since they’re the ones messing with the frog.

summarize act 1 in a single Caliborn quote

Caliborn has a single quote which is literally him describing Act 1 in one quote.

image

if there was an odd number, how do you think prospit/derse would be divided up?

Arbitrarily. Prospit/Derse don’t need to be split eventy.

which was Sollux's main dream planet? Prospit or Derse?

Prospit, he woke up on Prospit initially, but Feferi’s smooch woke his Derse self up.

but according to the EZ, Gemini is a Derse sign? wouldn't Sollux's "main" dream moon be Derse because that's what his sign says?

… Huh that’s true- Well, wait, no. Okay yeah given the 6-6 division Ectobiologically, he does fall under the Derse category, and when kissed he wakes up on Derse as his first Life, arguably his Main one. Howeverrrr, he woke up on Prospit first, which is why I called that his ‘main’ moon without any other consideration.

how would a session be affected, if at all, if all players in it were solely prospit or solely derse?

More of a Passive/Active leaning, respectively.

On Chahut’s troll card it says she’s two weeks from exile. Does that mean she’s almost of age to go off planet?

That’s what it seems.

how do trolls get transported off the planet when they're too old? secret teleporters? a ship every few months or so?

Likely ships.

Shower thought: trolls have yellow eyes, but yellow blooded trolls (mostly) have eyes that are (mostly) anything *but* yellow

Huh, true.

Not really a question or examination, I just wanna say I think the friendship between John and Rose is severely underappreciated

They sadly don’t interact that much in the canon but what little they do they’re shown to be on friendly terms, but there’s this big fanon conception that they’re not friends or something or that they secretly hate each other? Shrug.

OH WAIT YOU SAID JOHN AND ROSE. I read that as Jade and Rose. Whooops. Yeah they’ve got some really fun interactions.

Caliborn has the most fluctuating art style

He actually has visible improvement to his art, even though he uses it for shitty stories.

What powers would a Muse/Lord of Heart and Muse/Lord of Breath have?

Muse of Heart

Lord of Heart

Muse of Breath

As for the Lord of Breath, it seems whatever goals they’d have, they’d bind everyone ever to their cause, likely also unaware of it? Such a strong driving force that their decisions impact everything and everyone. Commanding all manners of wind and storms, the plot revolves around them… Motion and Freedom can be really interesting to command as well. Literally freezing people in place or figuratively leaving them stuck and outside the loop, or dragged back into the fray against their own will.

What do you think is tegiris class?

We don’t know anything about Tegiri yet.

Damara was a weeaboo, can we say the same with Aradia? Because Aradia's theme; Arisen Anew has Megaman SFX in it

Damara’s literally Troll Japanese, she’s not a Weeaboo. In fact she’s not even from the Lost Weeaboos, she only lived nearby.

How old is the main character in Friendsim?

Implied to be an adult, real age unknown, really just kind of a generic blank slate as a ‘stand-in’ for the player.

Do you have a post with like, a full timeline of a sburb session?

I doooo actually but I made it a while ago, so it’s a bit far back. I’ll see about fetching it later.

What are all the classpect powers that you've covered so far?

I have no idea, but most of them really? I just. Go to the search bar and type like. “Bard Mind”, and then Ctrl+F “Bard of Mind” to find the most relevant posts, and most of the time people ask me for a Classpect I find it there already.

Do jadebloods only turn into rainbow drinkers during sburb or is it just something that happens normally

SBURB had nothing to do with Kanaya’s, it’s likely just a part of their biology.

Everybody in Homestuck is overpowered af

Yep.

Do all Jadebloods always turn into rainbow drinkers when they die?

We don’t really know if ‘dying’ is the trigger. It may be but shrug.

whats your opinion on jake english?

He’s a good boy that’s also a mess. But that describes like. Half of the cast.

u think bronya can be a sylph of breath?

To me she seems a bit more of a Knight, but I’m not 100% sure.

Going back to prototyping a kernelspirte with toy, would the sprite be toy sized or would it be bigger?

Sizes appear to be standardly Humanoid.

If a player has orthodontic braces would it be possible for their dreamself to not have them? Also if they ascended to God tier then would the braces disappear too?

Depends? Wounds and other such things seem to disappear upon ascension, but think of Terezi’s Blindness- It’s technically a disability, but she heavily regrets seeing after getting healed by Aranea, I don’t think going God Tier would let her see again. Like… Someone who’s shy and doesn’t like their braces may get their teeth fixed, but if they’re confident about the look or don’t quite care, they may not.

think it would make sense if troll fabric paint kits came with all the colors of blood?

Of course.

I bet terezi would love scented markers

Scentception.

What do you think would happen if a person in a session has a personality that best matches the qualities of a class that is assigned strictly to the opposite gender? For example, if a female has a personality that is most like what the personality of a Prince would be.

Classes aren’t gender-locked. At worst if there’s disphoria that’d be exacerbated by it, SBURB may just mildly modify the name, such as Prince -> Queen.

do you think ectobiology was a necessary sburb mechanic for everyone who enters the medium plus a relative, made necessary retroactively via a scratch occurring, or something confined to universes A and B/lord english's alpha timeline? sorry if this is a complicated question - trying to get all angles for a fansesh and i'm not a fan of handwaving

Only the main SBURB Session of a Planet needs to have any Ectobiology, since it’s the Session that sends out the Frog Temple, it needs to be played in the first place, so the Players are retroactively engineered. Not needed outside of main Sessions- Unless you mean Frog Ectobiology in which case, it’s necessary in every successful session.

Could other trolls have found the frog temple?

If they did, they either didn’t decode it, or their Session was Void.

Why is that?

Alternia would’ve been razed by Meteors before the Trolls if anyone made SBURB before them and played a Session with a Reckoning.

Is it possible for a Sburb session to not have a Reckoning, and have the Earth-Skaia exchange of exiles, babies, etc, fulfilled in some other way?

Seems like the Frog Temple Meteor is always sent regardless of there being a Reckoning or not- But the Frog Temple is only on the Main Session and that usually also has the Reckoning in general. Seems like even without the Reckoning Skaia’s Portals pop up when Meteors Approach so maybe you can just. Artifically toss the meteors towards it.

Our sense of colour smell and taste can really disturb eachother.. so I wonder, can one confuse Terezi by giving her an apple juice coloured in cherry red? Would she find it grating or exiting?

I feel she’d love it.

would people like HIC, dad egbert, rose mom turn into ghosts after being killed? or do they just stay dead cuz they weren’t in a game session?

Hard to say? Technically noooo because the Bubbles were made by the Horrorterrors for the Players of those specific Sessions, but also the Bubbles can emulate life- There was a projection of a memory of Dad, and all of the Lusii are sen around so like. It’s kind of confusing how that’d work. It’s implied WV dreams in the Bubbles, so maybe the adults and Ancestors would as well.

Do troll names have to include vowels?

I. Mean they’re still words they need to be readable at the very least.

I guess this is more of a writing advice sort of question- but hussie was able to make things seem "complicated" and a lot of people had trouble understanding. It's not usually a good thing to confuse your readers, but it worked for homestuck. Any idea as to why? And how a writer could get that level of complexity in their own work? Was it because things were out of order?

One of the things with Hussie’s narrative is that his work is complex, but it’s not nonsensical. It knows what it does, it knows where it wants to go, and it simply teases the audience about the journey to get to the destination. A few of Hussie’s actual writing advice is that, as long as you know what you’re doing and aren’t simply being confusing for the sake of it, people will enjoy complexity- They’ll love piecing together a carefully thought out narrative, and that kind of stories lend themselves to teasing the audience as well with arbitrary details you know they will analyze, while you’re just doing it for a joke or a reference.

Likewise, he also mentioned two really important things- He wrote Homestuck as a story he’d want to read, but didn’t exist yet. A purpose, a soul, is important for any work, even the worst piece of ficton, if presented with good intentions and trying to present something interesting, will be good. And- He wrote Homestuck as a stream of interesting events. As long as you make a story a series of interesting events, as long as there’s not just filler to get to a destination, making the journey as interesting as the destination, the fluidity of the story just happens by itself. As such, it didn’t matter if he jumped back and forth to tease people- Every moment had something to tell, and as such, Homestuck itself was something people enjoyed.

You're right, it just needs a soul!! That was some pretty sound advice, thanks! I wonder how he did it? The man is basically a genius! A pioneer! No one has come close to that sort of comic yet. Well 17776 was similar in a way (Which is really surprising since the author had never read homestuck) but the whole genre of hypertext fiction is still in its baby phase. Homestuck is the biggest thing in the genre right now, with 17776 being the second most notable. Am I forgetting any comics?

I don’t many follow other pieces of hypertext fiction avidly, so I wouldn’t know, but yes 17776 was great! Really though, hypertext or otherwise, as long as your story has a soul and you know what you want from it, it will draw people in. Hussie just struck a particularly juicy goldmine with his style, his knack for foreshadowing, and culture-remixing powers. Seriously though, he’s so good at incorporating elements of old and new cultures into his work.

Speaking of foreshadowing, that’s also a thing you can notice after looking at Homestuck for a while- He’s good at setting foreshadowing with figures, not with characters. Lord English is foreshadowed as far as Act 1, during the Title Intro with the narration pondering about a pupeteer in John’s life, something behind the scenes manipulating his life. Given Jade’s screen name has been gardenGnostic and the references to Light ever since Act 2, it’s notable that Hussie always had a Gnostic base for his story, but he didn’t make Lord English to begin with.

He just set up the idea of a Yaldabaoth-like figure to oppose the characters of the Comic, a role which, if I recall, was filled by Betty Crocker to begin with! But as the story evolved, he added complexity to it- And so, rather than make up new characters and tack them onto the story haphazardly? He made new characters to fill in the blanks he’d already set up. Allowing him to expand on the ideas he wanted to tell, while perfectly fitting his Setting.

That is a hugely impressive thing to do, and since it allows him to set up retroactive foreshadowing, a lot of things seem to have just been planned from the VERY start. And while many were? A lot of the more impressive ties were simply that. Figures. Concepts. Hussie is AMAZING at distilling characters and concepts into their raw basics- And through that, all he has to do is tease these concepts… And then fill the holes with more specific details that fit the mold of the story as it progresses.

Do you think Vriska was "role playing" (revduelist style) as a seer of light and that's why it blew up in her face

I don’t really see her doing anything too Seer-y. Although if she was at any point, it’d speak of her relationship with Terezi above all else.

Troll names are pain in translation. One that fits six letter rule in English might be too short of too long in Russian. And let's not speak of such languages as Japanese. It's almost inevitable that one would have to improvise.

Oh yeah, that’d definitely be a thing lost in Translation with any language that uses any other system of symbols, and specially systems using syllables.

what could happen if a main player prototyped a human first?? instead of something dead like a cat or whatever; how would that effect the rings? and jack noir or whatever villain?

Just bodily traits. Arthour was human-ish and he granted some of the Underlings and the Royalty musculature and a moustache.
