so i tried researching what exactly going grimdark is, but the wiki wasn't very helpful. what the hell IS it? something about rejecting your aspect and horrorterrors?
Horrorterrible Voidy Corruption, basically.
Horrorterrible Voidy Corruption, basically.
Light Players are often concerned with their search for information, looking at the big picture- This makes them easily drawn to him, an Omniscient Being that can promise to show them exactly what they want. To manipulate someone, all you need is dangle something they want in front of their faces, and lead the way- And when your entire existence revolves around having all of the Knowledge, Light is just drawn to you.
Hard to tell honestly, we see Karkat crying from having Clover dance on him, but then you have Terezi power through being slammed around and stabbed in Game Over. Really I feel it’s more like… A lot of the Trolls we see are badasses that just power through the pain. A better question maybe what is the most painful thing that’s happened to a Troll?
I mean, I’m pretty sure it was a mixture of both? I feel no matter how tiny and light some puppet dude is, having him dance on your ribs’ gotta hurt.
I was asking that to you guys! Duuuh. But, hmm. I would say the most painful thing that’s happened to a Troll is likely the Psionic’s fate being Condy’s battery, up until the Vast Glub.
A n g e r y
It wouldn’t look like anything, it would be completely blacked out from any of our viewports and you know it.
I mean it’s not even a winnable Session given there’s no Space or Time.
Yep it is, 100%.
Condy died from a single stab through the chest, and Sollux beared the burning out of his psionics for as long as it took him to get to the Green Sun, so again, seems to be a case by case and wound by wound basis.
I dooooon’t think the Captcha system is THAT specific. Chances are minor variants of items like that would just show up as the same code as the normal phone.
God if we managed to make a real life inventory, it’d be equal times a miracle and also a disaster.
We really wouldn’t be any better than John raining destruction on his room with Shard Glasses and Cakes.
Can I count the entirety of Alternia? Because the entirety of Alternia is fucked UP.
The Genesis Frog is Offended.
Carrying a backpack around when you have an invisible inventory is a dead giveaway you’re out there to steal stuff.
Speaking of which please don’t steal stuff.
Depends on what they wanted to do both could be wanting to kill the other or heal them to some extent.
I may have to go with either the Handmaid or Alt Calliope, really.
She was, Nanna implies as such- But we don’t know how she made the jump from the Pre to the Post-Scratch Earth.
It could be, but Nanna says she just disappeared- Implying she did make the hop.
Unknown. I’m actually betting on Hiveswap to shed some light on this.
Seems as such?
Is that a thing? I guess I’ve never met anyone like this. But of all the Humans and Trolls? Nepeta of course. Have you SEEN her Land?
Scratch didn’t necessarily do anything, he’s a subtle manipulator, not someone who straight up makes someone go Berserker. But it seems he advised him to some extent on what to do to close Time Loops regarding LE.
I mean, yeah? As long as you fit and identify with Space the most, you don’t need to be an exact match.
Yeah, no reason why there’d only be guys or gals of any caste.
Yep. The Battlefield would not reach its ultimate form and Skaia wouldn’t be able to host the Genesis Frog.
Seer of Void definitely.
Grandpa found the Frog Temple and founded Skaianet, Mom worked for Grandpa, and Dad started investigating about it after two meteors crashed in his neighborhood. Nanna was raised by the Condesce, and even then didn’t seem to know too much about SBURB proper. Bro is the wildcard, where we don’t know much about him, but maybe Lil Cal whispered to him about it? It’s also plausible some of them could perhaps have partial awareness of their Post-Scratch selves through psychic shenanigans.
Page.
Hard to say since we don’t exactly know the mechanisms through which the defense portals actually work? Likely not however- After all the energy of the Scratch is required for something as minor as flipping a few of the portals’ destination- Then again it’s a full Timeline reset so maybe there’s more to it.
I actually don’t know what the Infinity Stones do exactly, all I know about the Marvel-verse is memes.
Okay, imagine this. Outside of the Alpha, outside of larger, grander loops. Imagine that you’re a Time Player, and during a fight with an Ogre, you get knocked down a cliff. At the very bottom there’s spikes facing upwards, and you have no means to save yourself from that fall. However at the last second, a Time-Travelling Future Self appears on a jetpack, and saves your ass.
Now, knowing this, you have two options. If you eventually make a Jetpack, and go back in Time to save yourself, then congratulations! You’ve complied with the rules set by your Time Travelling, closed a Time Loop, and ensured continuity will keep going as expected.
Your other option is to actively avoid doing this. You never make a jetpack, you never Time Travel back to save yourself, you never close this loop. As such, your actions are leading towards a reality where you never actually went back in Time to save yourself! As such, you never saved yourself- Which means you create a paradox, and you should not exist in the first place because you should be dead. However, you DID get saved by yourself, that is an immutable fact!
A Time Loop is retroactive. You were saved by yourself, so you eventually have to go back to save yourself. Because you’ve already seen it. It has happened. The true, Alpha Reality is that it has happened. And if you deviate from it, you’re branching away from the Reality you saw. As such, you are Doomed. Doomed by your own choice, to be an offshot version, and marked for Death by Paradox Space.
Note, however, that there’s a lot of nuance involved with Time Travel- The Alpha Timeline is, at its core, a huge Time Loop that spans the entire adventure, that you cannot break off from without dying. So sometimes, its effects will appear to be the OPPOSITE of what I described! Like the first Dead Dave. He went back in time to stop DD- But ended up dying. Dave NEEDS to be alive in the Alpha Timeline, and DD needs to take the code to create Becquerel in the Alpha Timeline. As such, a Timeline in which Dave goes back and kills DD cannot be the Alpha, because Becquerel won’t be created. And a Timeline where DD kills Dave cannot be the Alpha, because Dave needs to be alive. As such, the moment Dave decides to go back in time, that ‘Dave’ becomes a Doomed Iteration, and dies- Which is what then makes Alpha Dave NOT Time Travel, and as such keeps complying with the Alpha Timeline’s will.
Davesprite is similar, he prototyped Lil Cal, breaking the entire chain of events that would come next. Knowing this, John lets Typheus kill him so Dave and Rose know they’re Doomed and try to fix it, and Dave goes back in time to become Davesprite. The deviation from the Timeline caused a Doomed Timeline, and correcting it rails causality back along the Alpha Timeline, the sequence of events that Must Happen. As such always have in mind that, while Doomed Versions are slated for death, marked to be taken down, their presence in the Alpha Timeline is often used as the deterrent factor that ensures the Alpha Timeline.
A lot of times, the ‘Alpha Timeline’ is, because Doomed Realities that happened were unfavorable, and the Time Player tried to change them. And while a big chunk of it is decided by Lord English, smaller Time Loops and corrections can be created by everyone, with every choice they take. And in the same way, a simple choice of choosing ‘heads or tails’ could determine if you are the Dave that Lives, or the Doomed Dave whose throat is about to be sliced open by Bec Noir.
The credits of each Volume are listed. Hussie only wrote Volume 1. Friendsim is a collective effort by the various skilled and lovely writers at WP, Hussie included. And of course the rest of the team that make assets and write code.
I mean not really because she’s not a Troll.
Mituna’s.
You’re literally breeding them through Ectobiology! Like, just snatch the genetic code from the frogs and start mixing them together.
Hmm, I mean nothing wrong with doing it in a Fansession, but I’m not sure how hard to manipulate the Portals are in canon.
We see it in the intro to the Trickster Arc, they’re Lil Cals.
I have no idea what Origin Transcendence really means but I guess that sounds Breathy!

The Green Sun is outside all Sessions. It affects every single reality in Homestuck except for, for some god damn reason, Hussie’s Apartment.
I believe I did in the past! Pretty sure I did.
Yeah she is, from her perspective, but again you just said it, Time isn’t relevant in the Furthest Ring. For most of the entirety of existence in every Universe that has ever been, with the apparent exception of the Universe C, the Green Sun is still an immutable constant. Homestuck’s story is precisely about the breaking of these constants, these rules, of tearing down the reality that’s always been there, of unravelling an unfair fate so that you may keep pushing on beyond whatever grand scheme the Alpha Timeline has in store for you.
I don’t see why not, in fact it’s very likely- Like, they all reached Adulthoods. If we know something about Troll Culture is that they’re REQUIRED to provide their genetic material when the time comes or they will be culled. So outside of the Signless, and possibly the Handmaid, it’s almost a certainty every single other Ancestor fucked at some point.
It’s the price to pay for the Alpha Timeline’s awful requirements and the choices each character takes. However they still form their Ultimate Self altogether- All the choices they could’ve taken down the line, dead or alive. In a way, the Ultimate Self not only gives relevance to the many dead versions of the characters- It adds canonicity to all the Fanfic versions of characters.
While that makes sense to a degree, literally summoning their doomed versions seems more like a Time Player thing. Maybe with a twist of some sort?
God Tier Powers that can revive, mysterious Jujus, Fraymotifs, Dream Self Kissing, Ascending to God Tier, not dying a Heroic/Just Death as a God Tier, Time Travelling to a degree, making someone into a Sprite… Am I missing something?
The forge seems to always be in the Space Player’s land- But it’s the Space Player who stokes it too, not the Time Player! The relation with the Time Player comes from the fact Hephaestus- A Denizen associated with Time- requires the Forge to, well. Forge stuff. He’s a Blacksmith. Outside of Denizen Shenanigans though, the Forge IS necessary to launch the Genesis Tadpole into Skaia at the end of the game in a very loosely concealed allegory for ejaculation, and a sperm cell reaching the egg.
I like Knights and Maids for that sort of stuff! For no specific reason other than I guess it fits them? Likely Sylphs and Pages too I guess- I mean Jake literally makes a Hope Forcefield so yeah. Would John’s windy bubble during Collide count as a Forcefield too? Oh- Witches of course, and I guess by extension then Heirs? You could make a case for most Classes I feel.
I’m glad you enjoy even the dumb stuff that happens here from time to time though! :D
I mean, Hephaestus needed the Forge’s lava to do his Blacksmithing, but his Blacksmithing was not related to any of the general aspects of a SBURB Session, it was more for Dave’s Quest, so he doesn’t seem 100% necessary?
