What would it take to even kill a sprite? I mean, davesprite had his wing ripped off and a major stab wound, and then eventually got better, while the only account of sprites dying was when all the trolls sprites were killed with their planets by bec noir
I mean, unstable Sprites can also explode. Davesprite died when LOWAS blew up too, so it seems explosions are a reliable way of killing a Sprite. I would imagine too chopping one in half or decapitating one would easily kill them too. They just seem a tad more resilient.

Can Alchemiter upgrades be used to get around the "There can only be one of each Juju" restriction? If you give 2000 Alchemiters the Ahab's Crosshairs upgrade, the Magic Cue Ball upgrade, and the Rocket Car upgrade, will you have an army of flying vehicles that can take on Lord English?
I mean.
None of the things you’ve mentioned is actually a Juju, but I would assume a Juju-infused Alchemiter may work the same way as normal Juju stuff? I don’t know how useful a Rocket Car Upgarded Alchemiter would be, it’s still primarily a device, and likely putting lasers on it would make it laser the Totems and then explode into itself, not actually arm it.
I just want to make sure I have this right, as the 'choice' aspects have tripped me up a lot in the past. Mind is the choices themselves, Breath is the drive/freedom to make those choices, and Light is the outcome, right?
Nnnnot really? I mean you can tie them to Choice in some ways I guess but you’re just muddling it by adding Choice arbitrarily. Breath is Drive and Freedom, with its own series of other different connotations, but the conscious Choice of following said Path and the different Choices they make along that path are STILL Mind.
Light is even more separate than this, Light is just. Truth, Fortune, the Alpha and Relevant. It only vaguely intersects with Mind when you consider the journey the characters have to make through the Alpha Timeline, otherwise it’s completely separate of Choice, in fact it’s kind of predeterministic at times, making the Alpha be at ODDS with Choice itself.
Do you have any sources that the Ordeals and Rites of Maturation are different things, or is that a headcanon/theory?
Dammek is going through the Rites of Maturation at 7 sweeps, and he’s still going to be around after them, if he survives. That’s much younger than Chahut, Skylla or Mallek, who’re set to undergo the Ordeals to leave Alternia relatively soon.

Aranea addresses this very thing about Terezi, what agency would a person who at any moment perform literally any action and lead down an infinite different paths? How is a Perfectly Generic Being any different from someone slated for predetermination and fate? Terezi doesn’t see all the Choices, she sees all the Choices she would be capable of performing. The binary choice at that moment is not for the Alpha Timeline or what Fate has in store for her- It’s what she, in the heat of the moment, facing Vriska, could do. Let her go, or kill her. That is simply the only thing she could come up with, the only thing she could. Get left behind and perish, or kill Vriska and deal with the consequences later.
That being said, of COURSE Terezi didn’t see the third option of knocking her out- She literally couldn’t have, that choice only came about after she sent John, now unstuck from the Plot itself, back in time.
Think about it like Garnet from Steven Universe. She can see literally every branching path, every, in her Mind’s Eye, but to narrow it down to the ones she know are plausible, she has to assume what others are going to do. That is what Terezi sees, not every single possibility ever, but, what according to her knowledge, and the power she herself holds over what’s going to be happening, could happen. And that’s also why she leads John down different points of her own story- Moments she herself recognizes, pivotal moments she did something or chose something that she can find in the vortices of her memory to show him the way.
Before she knew about John’s Retcon, before John’s Retcon ability was introduced, there was NO way for her to factor said choice into the equation. And she couldn’t have like… Talked her down from it. That’s just not the kind of person Vriska is. She knows it. She could’ve also not stalled until the others arrived. Or maybe she could, but she felt she couldn’t. That’s what that Choice meant to her. It was Do or Die time. And she chose Do. Her hand was forced, by her own foresight of what was going to happen if she let her go, to take action, and as such, she never felt like she made the right choice- Like there WAS a right choice. And it haunted her until the moment she dropped dead.
Hey ummm, I sent you an ask like a month ago, I just want to know whether it got to you, I understand if you didn't want to answer it. It was about my confusion about my aspect, I wrote that I narrowed it down to pairs but I can't get further and asked whether my mental illness could be at fault for making it harder for me to know my aspect.
Sometimes asks like these slip through the cracks! Really it doesn’t necessarily need to, it’s always hard in general to pin-point yourself, specially yourself at your happiest, and relate to the kind of issues that arise with each Class and Aspect.
If it’s not too much trouble, could you do an examination of gold blooded trolls? I’m making a gold blood fantroll, but I’m not really sure how to go about developing them, mainly in regards to stuff like psionics and possible careers. Thanks!
Goldbloods are intrinsically tied to Technology- Both socially with their association to Doom, and biologically given they can actually interface with technology through their Psionics, making it so that most careers available to them are likely tech-related. From IT guys to Hackers for the Empire. Maybe some Psionics could end up on the battlefield- However, the more powerful they are as a Battery, the more likely they will be shoved as exactly that, to power up some ship with their powers.
Other than that societal risk of them, you can go about it any way. Goldbloods have two pairs of horns, don’t necessarily need to have noticeable psionics, their psionics can be any two colors you decide would be good for duality purposes… And while low enough to be on the ‘scarily disposable’ scale on the Hemospectrum, they tend to have enough power to be able to at least somewhat defend themselves.
Okay, I am the anon who has trouble with aspects and the ask that slipped away said pretty much this: I have narrowed the aspects to these pairs: Mind-Heart, Light-Void but I can't get further. I cannot determine which one of the pair is my inverted aspect and which one could be my normal aspect. I am probably closer to the Mind-Heart pair but even then I feel like I'm very uncomfortable in both but also comfortable in both. I have BPD so maybe my moodswings and opinion changes may be doing it?
Okay- I see why I didn’t respond to this one, I have no idea? Like, really if feel uncomfortable but also comfortable and I know nothing about you there’s nothing I can say to you about your Aspect that you yourself haven’t thought of already. Classpecting can be messy and it’s even harder to do when it’s to a complete stranger, and if yours is a more complex case, you or your close friends are the only ones who’d be able to properly determine something like that.

Psionics are gold-exclusive. But remember- Condy managed to unlock every single caste power through mutation. So you could have Psionic Mutants. They’d just very likely get culled before they could make good use of them.

Any Class and Aspect can start pretty much at any point, but the further they are from their Classpect, the more they’re likely to be oppressed or held back by something, so take that into account.

The most hilarious part of Eridan is just how ridiculously self-contradictionary he is. He is worst bastard by the end of Hivebent. He is all for genocide of land-dwellers. He almost never swims. Most his friends (mostly for given definition of friend) are land dwellers. He rarely if ever talks to sea trolls other then Fefery. Just. Wonderful. And then there is bubble Eridans that might have bothered with self-development. That might have ended up different. Just wonderful.
In his defense, he’s not that contradictory- He never swims because he’s hyperfocusing on keeping watch on the Landwellers and plotting against them, and also he’s an antisocial shitlord so of course his Friend Group is reduced. He may be friends with the rest more in tolerating them, and likely started being attached to the group by his flushed interest in Feferi and his Black Fling for Vriska. His hatred of Land Dwellers stems more of social tradition than being in tune with Seadweller Affairs.
Why do you think (Vriska) and Meenah were able to develop as people in the bubbles while the dancestors All stagnated? And what do you think of their arcs as a whole?
I really don’t think anyone actually developed too much in the Bubbles at all, and what development there was, it was only towards stagnation- Okay, let me explain.
Once a character is dead and in the Bubbles, they’re faced with irrelevancy, and most of the characters’ stagnation in the Bubbles comes from this fact. The fact that they no longer matter in the grand scheme of things, so without any stakes, they become complacent with their situation and just kind of hang out and hang around and do little other than exist in the Bubbles. There IS development of the characters in the Bubbles, with newly learned knowledge and interaction with other characters from other eras, they mildly change what they do, but they do not change it in any meaningful way to further themselves as people.
Meenah seems quite active and trying to actively do stuff, but she JUST appeared in the Bubbles. Everyone had a lot of time to become complacent- And even then, Meenah doesn’t change in the SLIGHTEST. To the point where she begs John to take the Ring away from her, to the point where she abandons (Vriska), because she KNOWS she’s a thief, she KNOWS she’s all about the bling, she KNOWS she’s not a good influence. And she’s unable to change any of it. It’s her nature, and she doesn’t strive to improve herself. There’s depth to this way of being, there’s emotion, but there’s really not growth. She’s a power-hungry Thief trying to get shit done when she dies, and she’s a power-hungry Thief trying to get shit done when she faces Lord English.
(Vriska) is a bit more complex, because you’d think she DOES develop, and in fact she does! But that’s the thing… She develops… Towards stagnation and complacency. She’s hungry for relevancy, she wants to be in the spotlight so badly, but unlike Meenah, she actually learns that maybe there’s more to things than just being The Big Heroine That Does Everything, and starts to accept her situation, and accept being with Meenah. She becomes kinder, she becomes happy- But she becomes TOO dependent on Meenah. She becomes complacent with the situation, gives the spotlight to the person closest to her, and follows her instead of being the one that calls the shots. It’s honestly better than what Vriska ends up doing, but it’s still far from ideal in general, and it’s definitely far from ideal for Vriska as a person. She’s not fixing her problems, she’s using someone to cover them up, and letting it be, and in the end this attachment to Meenah, who’s still trying to get shit done, ends up hurting her. Her development is tragic, and only gets a pick-me-up from her meeting GO! Terezi, as they truly complement each other and can settle their own personal issues. This reunion comes to be by someone who just died, and someone who just went through a big change in their status quo.
Development in these situations comes from the interactions of a character with others, and how they change their perception of themselves or what they’re doing- And once they’re dead, most characters simply become used to the way things have been, to the way things are, and simply… Allow them to happen as they always have. They don’t seek change. And since they don’t seek change, no one is affected by the ripples of someone else’s change, and as such, there’s very little development.
There’s simply not enough people trying to bring change in the Bubbles for meaningful and constant self-actualization to ripple through people, they just shrug, accept they’re Dead, and keep on going.
The one character that may have gone through the most development was Aranea, influenced by Vriska and Mindfang’s ideals, she comes back full force to get shit done- And it’s very telling that Aranea is the one who gets the Ring of Life, and that both Meenah and Vriska wanted it.

As much as I usually doubt about Trolls of a caste paired with the Class of the same verb as their Class influences them to be, I feel Mallek is kind of Rogueish. Lynera certainly seems Maidy.
so, the lower castes all have powers (animal communication, psionics to help them stay alive. the higher castes also have some, too (mind control, super strength). but mid-tiers... really dont have anything? mainly olives and teals (since jades are important/potentially rainbow drinkers). so, how are they staying alive in a world where everyone else has powers?
The lower caste’s powers aren’t to give them an advantage in surviving, they’re just incidental. If they use it that way, good for them, but the mere fact an Olive is higher in the Hemospectrum than a Rust contributes more to their survival than a Rustblood’s ability to commune with the dead or telekinetic abilities.
Not to say no matter how powerful a Lowblood’s powers may be, they’ll always be naturally outlived by those higher in the Hemospectrum. It also seems that the higher in the Hemospectrum, the more resilient to wounds and blood loss you are.

Potential. Could-have-beens. The Ultimate Self is the concept of a character at the core of a character. Taking it more Metatextually, for example, at the end of the comic Jade is the Jade that saw John and Davesprite die when LOWAS blew up. But Jade’s Ultimate Self is the idealized version of everything that Jade has ever done in canon, and her potential for growth and doing stuff.
Take Terezi for example, who’s one of the most visible examples of this concept. She… Struggles with her choice. Because she doesn’t see what she could’ve done to save Vriska. Then John gives her the chance to undo it, and fixes her mistake. The new Timeline Terezi, however, struggles with NOT having undergone this growth, and never being able to quite reach the ideal GO! Terezi set for her, and never quite feeling she could measure up to Vriska. So she uses her Mind Powers to vicariously… See this Choice. These outcomes. What she did. What she could’ve done. What she didn’t do. And all of that, all of those Timelines, in the end, do affect the growth of the characters, do affect the reader’s perception of these characters, it shows their potential. Terezi most clearly of all characters tries to reach this ‘Ultimate Self’ to feel whole, but ultimately, the Ultimate Self is more of a conceptual amalgamation of what the distilled essence of each Character is.
The Sprites Squared are a good representation of the Ultimate Self though, as they are a literal amalgamation of every iteration of the characters that form them put into one body with obscene knowledge about SBURB and Paradox Space.
A couple of days ago, while reading the HS wiki on my language, (I'm adding this bc I don't know how things are in english wiki,) I've read that prince's role can also be destroying unhealthy and toxic iterations/examples of their aspect and honestly I've never thought about it before but it makes perfect sence? Like, Dirk wanting to punch Dave's bro is a very prince of heart thing to do. I really wanted to share this find because I'm a prince and reading this made me really happy, holy shit.
Dirk literally threatens to shatter AR for being a toxic piece of shit and splinters the shades, but stops because ultimately, even though AR is kind of an asshole, he’s also his creation and a living entity, and cannot bring himself to go all the way, deciding to just humor him making him fully alive as a Sprite. Or. Part Sprite.
Another ask by the prince anon: Reading this made me really happy because being a prince is really important to me already, (I know it sounds cheesy s;lfkgfds,) BC I'm struggling with BPD but literary reading that prince's role can also be to weed out the shitty parts of their aspects? It’s okay! What I don’t quite understand is the notion of Princes or Bards being intrinsically shitty, specially given Dirk cares so much about his friends, so we even have a good Prince going around. Either way, though, yeah, and not even just ‘the shitty part of an Aspect’, sometimes just the Aspect in general can be bad for someone? A Prince of Life could kill a parasite or virus that’s infected someone, curing them from an otherwise deadly disease. A Prince of Space could narrow the gap between two people who haven’t had the chance to meet.

It’s just a show within Homestuck, but much like “Homestuck the Anime”, the Fandom made it seem like a real show to mess with people out of the loop. The general consensus in the Fandom to make it seem believable is that it was an old timey cartoon Homestuck is paying tribute to, but sadly all the original tapes were lost in a fire and there’s only sparse, scattered footage and stills of the show circulating.
for wakraya: prince IS a destroyer class, so eridan didnt need hope to succeed. he just needed to destroy it, which he did, so he technically did meet his potential, even if it meant that he turned villainous. same with how dirk is a prince of heart
This was an ask I got on MFF’s Ask Blog, but let me clarify something- Destroying Hope is completely within Eridan’s territory as a Prince of Hope. HOWEVER, Homestuck rewards using your powers for a good cause, and punishes those who selfishly harm others. It may have been Eridan’s Territory, but so is Destroying the Hope of your enemies instead of your friends, and so is Destroying THROUGH Hope.
I am not saying it was out of character for him to do so- I am saying that by SBURB’s own nature of rewarding people who aren’t murderous bastards, Eridan stumped whatever mastery and growth he could’ve had of his powers because he was, as I said, a murderous bastard.
So! It’s that time of the year! And I think it’s time to talk about some things regarding the state of Hiveswap right now, since I occasionally see people asking for what happened to it and such, and I imagine the complaints may ramp up soon given we just reached the 1-year Anniversary of Hiveswap! First let me add, however,

With that out of the way, for those less informed about what’s going on, or those who need a recap, I’ll be talking about a brief explanation of Hiveswap’s development, speculation, and predictions.
The Kickstarter, Hiveswap 3D, The Odd Gentlemen
For those who don’t know or don’t remember, Hiveswap was the Crowdfunded Homestuck game, if I recall, it was 5, now 6 years ago that the Kickstarter was funded several times over with a budget of over 2 million dollars. We got Concept Art and some promising screenshots and the idea of an adventure game set on Earth and Alternia before the events of Homestuck, it was going to be cool! But then there was silence for a while, and a leak of some sort suggested that the company Hiveswap had been given to, had been redirecting funds from the Kickstarter to make another game.
This has never been proven, but given the legal nuance behind this, it seems very likely there was some issue of this kind that set Hiveswap back. Further into development when Hiveswap was being made by WhatPumpkin, we got more images of the Beta concept of the Half-Harley Manor, the Monsters and the Cherub Portal, but ultimately this was dropped as it didn’t have the feel the Team wanted for the game. The staff doing 3D assets was laid off, and development began on Hiveswap 2D.
And so, after 5 years, Hiveswap launched with a charming, fun… But rather easy and short First Act.
People liked it, but they, obviously, wanted more. Bugs were fixed, support for other OS was added afterwards, it wasn’t perfect but it was nice and it promised that there was going to be more of it soon!
Spring 2018, VIZ Media, Friendsim
Not long after the game’s release, we got news that Act 2 would be coming on Spring! This set the Volumes to be a bi-anual release or something around that range, and building up hype towards the launch, there was the Troll Call, showcasing some of the most important Trolls for Act 2! However… Soon enough, this was set to become a missed deadline, with development on Act 2 halted for reasons unknown.
Many were quick to point their finger at VIZ Media’s ‘restructuring’ of the company, however there’s actually no proof of this being a thing. It simply came at a time where VIZ Media was showing itself more prevalently around Homestuck stuff- With the creation of the books and the redesign of the Website, many entered in Panic Mode. I have my gripes with the new Website, however it’s a necessary change and it’s still in development, so I’m giving them time.
Regardless, the most likely reason for Hiveswap’s Stopped Development is… Money. With stolen money, a re-start of the project half-way, and not too impressive sales, it’s very likely the team simply didn’t have the resources to continue production on Act 2. This doesn’t mean the project is dead though- Because that’s where Friendsim comes in. A good way to get to know these main Trolls on Act 2, a way for WP to get some funds, and just generally more fun content for the Fandom to sink their teeth into! I’m loving every and each of the Friendsims so far, and it shows that the Team is still there developing these characters and making content for us. However, Friendsims have come and gone, and while we’re a bit over half-way through the Friendsims, today is Hiveswap’s Anniversary…
Celebration, Future, Predictions
As I write this, the WhatPumpkin Website has not made a formal post celebrating the anniversary or updating the state of the game or saying anything, so this could all become obsolete in a few hours/days.
However, let’s talk about a few things regarding the state of Hiveswap- The Friendsims have definitely softened the blow. A year ago I told myself and everyone they weren’t going to spend half as much time developing Act 2 as they did Act 1- But then the issues happened. And that’s the thing- These issues, likely monetary, have stopped the development for the time being. Hiveswap is not being actively worked on, but when it is, again, it will likely come to us in a few months. I am really frustrated because I see there’s some issues going on, the game’s not taking long, it’s just not being worked on because of these issues, and we have things to fill the gap in the meantime, so in a way we’ve been constantly getting Hiveswap stuff! I still want to go back to Joey but… I can wait and keep supporting the Devs if it means we’ll eventually get a quality product.
This being said, I am hopeful Hiveswap will come back soon. Why? Well a few things! First of all, it seems that the Friendsims have been getting more and more quality as time goes on. This is to be expected I guess, but at the same time just. The art style sort of getting more consistent, the larger amount of backgrounds and more intricate story bits, the more detailed Lusii as time goes on, it’s been great building a world around the MSPA Reader in Alternia, but it’s also been telling me that they’ve been putting more care and attention in them- They’re enjoying making them, yes, but they’re also likely starting to recover at least a little bit from them.
On top of that, the latest post in the WhatPumpkin Tumblr said that “So yeah. Nothing new. Except, well … the volume itself.“ Hussie and WhatPumpkin are kind of notorious for long periods of silence- But they’re not for no reason. They don’t report on things when there’s… Nothing to report on. It may be a bit anxiety-inducing, but it’s how they’ve been doing things. Their statement either tells me that they still have nothing, but are aware of this and are working towards actually getting us some news- Or they’re teasing us and about to drop an update. My expectations are tempered, and I won’t be disappointed if there’s just a little Anniversary post, but still we’ll see.
That being said? The mysterious second DLC in the story, and JamesRoach’s last video make me think there may be some sort of update soon. For those of you who don’t know, our boy James uploaded a video on the dynamic music of Act 2, and it confirmed a bunch of stuff! That there’s a lot more Trolls we haven’t seen that are only sort of background characters, he’s teased some important Trolls we may not have seen yet, but namely, dropping this kind of stuff for the anniversary of Act 2… It tells me there may be news incoming quite soon.
Either way, whether I am right or wrong, the constant flow of these Friendsims has really been reminding me of the Upd8 culture surrounding Homestuck. Maybe at a smaller, tamer level, but that is completely fine. The memes, the surprise and excitement, the little misshaps and paranoia. It may not be always perfect, we may still be waiting, but hey.
I am glad to be here and part of the Fandom, and I am happy to see what may or may not be updated by WhatPumpkin soon!

I hope this isn’t too much to ask, but you’re my favorite active Homestuck blog and you seem pretty up on the shit. Basically, I didn’t get into Homestuck until like the past three years so I missed the heyday. What are some “classic Homestuck” things I can consume in an attempt to give me a taste of the heyday? I know there were songs and different AUs and things, but what are some must-know old Homestuck things? It’s okay if you don’t want to answer this though; it’s a lot to ask.
Honestly I wouldn’t be able to tell you. I was actually late to the Homestuck Party- I came around the Kickstarter time, when the Fandom was already a bit on the decline, and even then I didn’t interact with Fandom Content too much, so all I know about Classic Fandom Content is what I got a light glimpse of, or what I have been told. As much as I like to think I am well versed in Canon stuff, Fanon is where things get fuzzy, there’s way better people that know this sort of stuff!
However- If any of you guys have suggestions, please feel free to Reblog them or add then to Replies of this post, make some sort of a Masterlist for Classic HS stuff!
I can at least point you out to stuff like the million Lyricstucks out on Youtube, After Us or the Fan-Made Rex Duodecim Angelus fight though, as well as the several Fan-Music Albums out there.

I have this fantroll who is a horror/mystery writer, which oftenly is about alternia being a shithole, now she publishes her writing under the identity of a purpleblood for security sake Now, would she be a void player as void relates to mystery and the unkown, and her giving it to her readers is exposing them, but the mask makes her roleplay as rage because they stir controversy from how alternia really is?
Either or, or neither honestly. There’s a million ways you can go for the same thing depending on her personality or how she goes about it.
What would happen to a troll pretending to be a higher bloodcaste? Would they get culled or would they just be stripped of their sign?
Obviously culled. When has Alternia ever had mercy on lowbloods? Unless whatever Highblood found them out was so amused they wanted to keep them around. But whenever you ask “Would this be a cullable offense-” Yes. That’s the point. Everything is a cullable offense if someone wants it to be.
I was thinking more of a midblood pretending, should have specified that. Specifically, I have a character who is pretending she's one caste higher because she's incredibly pissed they classified as that blood when she thinks her blood surely belongs to the higher caste. I've purposely made her blood to be really on the verge between the two castes. I'm guessing she would still get culled but I just wanted to specify that she is not a lowblood, lol
