John did a very good job showing off some of his classes defensive powers; turning into the wind and even having the breeze mask his scent! I can see how this would work with some aspects; a Light heir with a holographic/after image effect, a Space heir just teleporting the damage elsewhere, or a Heart heir becoming an intangible spirit.... But how do you think this works out for a Heir of Blood, or Doom? Rage?
Well to understand how something like this works for each Aspect, it helps knowing exactly WHAT is happening when John poofs into Wind! As one of the Change Classes, manipulating their Aspect, John seems to allow his body to Change into an embodiment of his Aspect, he loses physicality and poofs into wind completely. Curiously enough though, this is true even of his Retcon Powers, whenever John goes back to Change things, it begins with a glow on his body- He’s the means through which the Change happens in the Timeline.
So for Light? Yeah, a Heir or even a Witch of Light would likely be able to fade into Light in the same way, dissolve into photons in a flash and reform elsewhere. And a Heir of Space would likely have a set of abilities similar to Jade’s, so they may allow a change of their proportions, their size or their position to avoid attacks, effectively avoiding damage through a Change on their self.
Blood may be the most straight forward of the ones you mentioned, as it has a very real and not abstract analogue on literal Blood. So I could see a Heir of Blood melting into a puddle of blood on the ground, losing physicality just like John does, and draining away from the combat to reform somewhere else.
If Rage and Doom can have this same ability, however, depends entirely on what the Heir considers to be Rage and Doom. For the Captors, for example, their Psionics come with their own fair share of Doom, they’re powerful psychic powers that can damage them if they overuse them, and get out of control under the use of certain substances. So maybe someone like Mituna literally faded into a spark of his own psychic red and blue powers before reforming, but maybe another Heir of Doom could crumble into dust, or lightning perhaps?
Rage is an even more complicated one as it seems deeply related to concepts rather than anything physical. What does a Heir of Rage turn into? Black smoke? Chucklevoodoos? Faygo?
Well, maybe? Yes? All of those? Because the thing about Classes and Aspects and their relationship with each other is that they’re designed, much like most of SBURB, to give an unique and personal experience to the Players. Classes and Aspects seem to share similarities among the players, and there’s some key concepts and powers they all use, but that doesn’t mean anything else has to be universal. Maybe not every Heir can turn into their Aspect. Hell, maybe not every Heir of Breath can poof into Wind, because they just do not change themselves for whatever reason.
So when you ask how I think it’d work for these Aspects? I think it would be something like that. But someone else may think differently. And that opinion is what makes the exact same Class and Aspect combination still feel unique between people, and what makes it fun and exciting to see new interpretations and fanart and talk about power sets.
