I want to make a fanstuck comic, but I don't want to directly copy homestuck. Any tips on giving it it's own story?

Know what direction you want to take it in, you can’t just go in blind and expect things to fall into place without taking some inspiration from Hussie, but if you have a good idea you’d like to express, then things will start taking their own shape.
