just an observation, but it seems to me that Knights tend to be rather guarded people, Dave never really addressing the abuse in his past, Karkat with his blood, and Latula with her overall identity. What do you think?

Well, Knights seem to want to seem reliable and build a sort of facade around themselves, which ties in with repressing or hiding some parts of themselves. It takes them a while and lots of trust to open up.
