I don't think Peak Homestuck Fandom levels of popularity will ever happen again, but yeah, I think if Hussie starts something new it could be a big hit. I imagine fans of his other work would be attracted to something entirely new, without the burden of the complexity the universe of Homestuck/Hiveswap developed. His writing is still great and hilarious, I think what turns people off is the sheer mass of the lore, and becoming bored with the concepts.

Just by the way Hussie talked about his creative process in the past, and after doing Homestuck, I don’t quite think he’s capable of doing something without a similar vibe? Not that he wouldn’t be able to do something entirely different- I mean look at his old work, Hussie is one creative motherfucker. I mean more, he enjoys complexity and exploration of new themes and weird stuff to the point where, unless he’s intentionally holding back to do something milder than Homestuck next, whatever comes next is going to have a similar degree of complexity and weirdness.
