Can you give us reasons to like Equius, please ? With all the things the fandom has said about him it's hard for some to really like him but im sure hes not that bad...

Equius is heavily casteist and comes off as abrasive and controlling. However, there’s a few things to take into account about his person.

First is his views on the Hemospectrum- He’s heavily Casteist, yes, but… It also heavily conflicts with him. He’s been socially conditioned towards this way of seeing things, but then he also sees the strength the members of lower castes exert on him, and the power that higher castes COULD exert on him. It ends all up boiling down into something heavily taboo for him, and he ends up quite literally fetishizing his own degradation BOTH from higher bloods taking their rightful place, and lower bloods going AGAINST the order he’s been taught. Society pushes all that stuff against his kind of overall submissive nature, and ends up being played off as taboos and kinks he feels should be ashamed of, so it ends up coming off as really creepy. And it is! But it adds a tone of humor, while giving some depth to his character and his internal struggle.

On top of that, the dude’s actually a genuinely okay person by Troll Standards? He’s. Creepy, yeah, and he fucks up big time trying to force Aradia to like him, trying to use her as an outlet for those taboos of his. But take Nepeta. He seems controlling and intimidating at first, but he GENUINELY does want the best for her, and as the comic progresses their relationship is only seen in a better and better light. Nepeta calms him down when he gets angry, and Equius sternly commands her to not go off and do dangerous shit that could risk her life, such as, you know, FLARP. He ends up indulging in Nepeta’s roleplay antics, keeps his societally-hard-coded aggressive impulses under control 100% to the point where the most violent thing he ever does to another Troll is making Vriska roboslap herself…

Like he’s not perfect by any means, and you may not even consider him good- But on the spectrum of bad people in Homestuck, he really isn’t even there. He’s just kind of a creepy asshole who actually does care about his Moirail and friends even though he’s abrasive and weird.
