Hi it's me, the confused pastebin article reader again! What did hussie mean by the ending was a farce but given with a straight face? Like it's a joke? But said seriously? I don't get what the joke is, or how it's a farce. Again, thank you homestuckexamination!!!
Not a farce as in that the ending is a joke, but that the entire nature of the story is presented like a farce- The tonal shifts, the juxtaposition of absurdist humor and serious themes and symbology, it both draws you in deep for its actual depth, and makes you question at the same time what is even going on, if anything meaningful at all. The Ending takes it to a whole new level where it makes you re-evaluate the entirety of Homestuck preceding it, it throws a wrench on a lot of stuff that’s happened or you thought would happen, and leaves you just wondering how long you’ve been played for a fool. A serious end to an absurdist comedy, the culmination of symbolism and foreshadowing, while leaving some threads seemingly unresolved, but solving them BEFORE the ending itself- It ties once again to the idea that Hussie made Homestuck thinking of it as a puzzle, a riddle. That’s what it means that story is farcical.
