There's one thing I am not sure about: Before Condy claimed the throne, did the young to-be-empresses still had to fight the current empress to the death, or did Condy establish this rule?

We literally have never known a period of time where Condy wasn’t the Empress, so it’s impossible to tell. For all we know, she arrived to Alternia so early that she became the First and Only Empress.
