February 2015

Here are the drawings I made for the Pre-Sequel intro motion graphics sequence.  Man, it seems like forever ago that I made these. I’ve grown quite a bit as an artist since then… but I still have a soft spot for ‘em.

The reason that I played BL1 when it first came out was because I saw my friend fire it up and fell in love with Scott Kester’s ink drawings in the intro and his awesome character designs. There was something about those drawings that were so unpretentiously cool, soulful and badass at the same time.  They embodied the tone of work that I aspired to make. Years later that lead to me meet Kester…and now he is my boss.  :P

Boss-man was too busy kicking ass as the art director on Battleborn to draw the intro this time around, so they asked me to give it a shot.  It was a really cool challenge trying to capture the hatchy, dynamic  quality of Scott’s work while putting my own style into it as well.  So yea, this was a really fun assignment and a cool full circle poetic kind of thing.

The much requested credits drawings!

Art-wise Wilhelm’s turned out the best imo, which is funny considering how derp-tastic his BL2 form is.

I’m kind of bummed I had to rush Athena and Janey, It was the last image requested last second.  I had to slam them out pretty fast.  Luckily the internet has made up for it with plenty of adorable fanart.  :)
