I don’t get a lot of chances to do a picture I want to do just for prints at cons or for, gasp, fun, so this was a great little exercise and some good practice at trying to do my commission-style colouring on a larger scale. I posted this lineart AGES ago, i’m sure some of you remember. :> Character is Llevyathan, angst ridden time travelling teenager from Falls D'Ange. He’s got a book he learns epic magic from….. the pic is pretty literal, not gonna lie. This is one of the earlier characters who got a bit of a make-over that I’m hoping I can carry over to the rest of the cast as well. Asmodeus and Samael already got theirs. Felix is next! B:
So I saw this post and then I saw the amazing coat it was based on. I got really inspired and drew my own interpretation of the thing on my character Lucy from FDA. She’s kind of a trend-setter in Hell and the eighth is quite cold, so everyone wears a lot of fur. It’s sort of … their thing.
I’m on a serious Lucy kick right now, she’s one of the few fashionable female characters I have so whenever i can i dress her up in ridiculous shit that would piss her father off to no end, I do. The Eighth is very conservative when it comes to their fashion and Lucy is very not, which is not very lady-like or befitting of a demon princess.
So i drew a demon thingy. Mephistopholese, great great great great great grandaddy of Felix, that guy I posted a week or so ago with the curly hair? Yeah, this is his ancestor. Fe has a little demon blood in him but only enough to give him red eyes and slightly pointed hobbit ears. B: Meph is less fun than Felix though, he’s all serious business and shiz, mostly because his Kingdom is a gong show thanks to Asmodeus.
Between working on the comic I’m doing commissions (slowly.. but doing them none-the-less). Here’s a WIP of one I’m currently inking, a two character full body colour thinger. I’ve had to recently move to digital inking rather than pencil because my wrist can’t take working traditionally for long amounts of time. Which sucks… the comic originally was going to be all pencil but it looks like I’ll have to make adjustments for health reasons. aahh such is life.
Mid-colouring process. Those are the finished inks on the top, i changed the front character’s face a bit so it matched more closely to the original sketch. The bottom image is after I’ve filled in the entire drawing with one flat (usually brown) colour and cell shaded the bitch with a grey set to multiply. This is the first few steps I take when colouring a commission. Herp da derp.
pic 1) Putting down the flats for the colour, all the layers set to either ‘soft light’ or 'multiply’ depending on how the colour reacts to light.
pic 2) Painting on top of aaaaaalll of that. Adding bright brights and reflective shiney things. Also fixing little mistakes I made on the original shading.
pic 3) Tinting original shading…
pic4) Adding a multiply layer and a colour dodge layer to add more shadows and more brights (like on the gold).
The finished piece! Did a few more adjustments before this, sharpened it up, slapped a URL on it.. etc. Two Sailor Moon oc’s! Sailor Orion and Sailor Merope. :D
