HEY GUYS!! I’m here to confuse you again. I’ve changed my screen name once more. No longer is gentlemandeerlord (except on my inspiration board). That name was too long, too cumbersome, didn’t fit in my twitter handle… Just a load of problems that weren’t working out. My new screen name deerlordhunter on ALL the social medias.
I try not to do this too often - I know it’s not what anyone’s following this blog for, but this poor baby’s story keeps punching me in the heart. The sensation moved up to my brain and I started thinking maybe I could do something to help.
Babs’ beloved person passed away. Instead of taking her in, surviving family absolved themselves of her and left her with animal control. By then, her coat was so matted, she needed to be shaved. The displacement and stress of being in a shelter has been very tough on her and she’s starting to shut down. She’s lost her appetite and is spending more and more time huddled with her face hidden in the corner of her cage. She’s also come down with a fever recently and is being treated with fluids and antibiotics. The vets think she’ll be okay, but this is no way for a sweetheart to live.

Babs is fixed, vaccinated, FIV/FeLV negative and about 8-10 years old. She didn’t much enjoy being shaved (who would?) but never motioned to swat or bite anyone, and I’m pretty sure her whiskers set some kind of record for length. Also, don’t tell the shelter workers I told you, but her adoption fee has already been taken care of.

**UPDATE** Some good news - Babs has found a foster home sponsored by All Paws Rescue to do some recuperating in so that she doesn’t have to languish in a cage. She still very much needs a forever home, though. If there are any interested parties, the place to contact now isAll Paws Rescue.
That said, every shelter and rescue and foster group out there is absolutely overwhelmed with cats, kittens, dogs and puppies this time of year. So many animals don’t get a second chance like Babs. If you have any room in your heart and home, please consider adopting or signing up to foster! ❤

So over the past 10-15 years, as I’ve been trying to branch out, grow a following and sell commissions, there’s one phrase I’ve heard more than any other.
“I’d love to support you, but I have no money.”
And you know, I get that. I understand. I don’t have any either. But here’s the secret. The most powerful and useful thing you can do to support an artist? It doesn’t cost a penny. Reblog their posts, signal boost their commissions, advertise their patreon./ If you have commissioned them, or do support their patreon? Write a review, tell your friends, share their links. Keep circulating the tapes.
Every post is an artist laying themselves bare before you. You have the power to make them into somebody. You can make them into a big name, you can help bring them an income. All you have to do is share.
Here’s a handy infographic.
If artists get only likes, they never get any exposure. They find no followers, they make no money, and feel worthless.
But with reblogs, who knows how far they could reach? New people could see their work and follow them, and maybe one person will spot that commissions post or patreon promo, and maybe offer to help support them. And it didn’t even cost those followers a penny to reblog the post.
So please, anyone out there. If you enjoy an artist’s work and can’t afford to give any monetary support, you can give them something more powerful. A voice.

Not an ask, but I just wanted to say I remember when I saw your art at Otakon one year, and bought a few prints... and I look back on them and compare to your art now, and while much has changed, the awe has stayed :) Your work is inspiring, and seeing you grow with your art is encouraging, as it shows that even artists you admire improve in their craft <3
