I just saw your Mighty Nein line up and they are 110% Gorgeous. Have you considered setting them up on Etsy or the like as Coloring book type things?

There’s been a few people asking about colouring books, which in never even thought of before this.  I’d have to look into a good printer for such things.  In my next print shop update, these good children will certainly be available as prints though.

Have you ever played Guild Wars? Would love to see some of that someday (and you were talking about games a bit in the asks and the art style totally would be so pretty there)

Do you do commissions at all? Your Mighty Nein art is so inspiring I wanna cry.

I don’t really take commissions publicly anymore, they’re all reserved for my patrons (and even then it’s pretty rare for me to offer them!).

Just discovered you through your Mighty Nein art and WOW I’m obsessed!! I love your style so so much. I love how distinctively angular some of the aspects of the bodies are and how you pair that with really smooth, flowing lines as well. It’s just an overall gorgeous outcome and so inspiring for me!

Hi Hunter! I know you’re probably super busy, but since you’ve done the deed at least twice or so in the past… how do you feel about changing one’s username as an artist? EVERYWHERE? I’m not super well known, but still I feel hesitant about doing it because I’ve using the same internet pseudonym for more than decade. Apart from the hassle of having to change it everywhere (and having to print new cards and flyers), I’m always afraid people might lose me if I change the URLs. (1/3)

Hah, well, you’ve got one thing right, it is a massive hassle. Changing your online alias is a pretty big decision and i made it rather flippantly a number of times.  When i was younger and going by dapper-owl or even lone-momo, i wasn’t overly concerned with my image or online identity being lost because i was primarily on one website, DeviantArt, and everyone i cared about already followed the account and a name change like that wasn’t going to lose me a lot of people.  Still, the jump from lone-momo to dapper-owl wasn’t just a name change, it was an account change, and i ran the risk of losing a lot of people who were lurkers or didn’t check their DA very often.  In preparation for that i made a few posts that were image based that i uploaded to warn everyone of the change, because many people never check their journals.  I tried to use new artwork so people were interested in the image and then plastered across the whole thing ‘I’m Moving Accounts’.  Generally, it worked.  I did lose a number of people but i have a  feeling those people weren’t active watched anyways.  At the end of that move it felt more like a cull than a loss, and i was able to build a new base on strong ground, rather than a lot of dead accounts.

Fast-forwarding into the future, and the internet changed a lot.  Your alias supports you across multiple platforms and is generally not only linked to your fans, its also linked to your professional life.  Some artists use their alias professionally (like Loish), while other people preferred to ditch their older online alias and use their real name.  In my case, and a lot of artists’ case, I use my real name for majority of freelance work where i won’t be catering to my online audience or people who know me.  I use my internet alias when dealing with people who follow me on social media.  I probably should have been more careful when switching my screen names because I feel a lot of people were confused or lost when the switch happened. I probably should have taken a page from past-hunter and made a bunch of images that were like ‘HEY IM CHANGING MY SCREEN NAME, PLZ DONT BE ALARMED” but i was kind of a in a hurry and didn’t think it through all the way.

Due to some really stupid circumstances involving GoDaddy and what a sketchy company they are, and due to me picking a name that didn’t fit on any fuckin business cards, I decided I needed to change my screen name more than once within a year (which i totally do not recommend).  Both times i had one goal, have my screen name the same across the board and have it involve my real name in some manner. My previous screen name (dapperowl) was taken on SO many platforms, and gentlemandeerlord was already kind of known to my fan base because it was my alt account.   So i made the switch to GDL and it was a mistake because it was just… too long. No one could remember it and it was a pain to write out or design around. My current screen name (Deerlordhunter), has both my old alias’ and my real legal name wrapped up into it, so when you start googling me you find my old shit and my professional shit. I also attached my legal name to all the websites I wanted to be found when you google Hunter Bonyun.Or vice versa, when you find my online work you can reverse engineer that and find my professional work.

So I did eventually succeed in changing my screen name and i’ve been working hard to establish it as my new alias, and i’m sure i’ve confused a lot of people in the shift, but now when i’m at a convention or designing a business card, I can just tell them “Its Deerlordhunter, across everything” and its so much less work.  I would say its completely invaluable having a screen name that is the same on every platform and if you need to change it, give your viewers a heads up and try to make the transition slow.  Something I also like about later years on the net is that you can just change your account name.. you don’t need to make a new one and try to convince everyone to move over.  Even if they don’t recognize your name, hopefully they will recognize your art when you start posting again.
