For as long as there have been Caedes, there’s been something deeply wrong with the family. Maybe from how they carried themselves as survivors of the wasteland first, bandits second, maybe just from how so many of them seemed intent on proving how good they are at surviving, which drove people away in droves from the fear. Either way, it was obvious what was happening there was no ordinary problem, it was something deeply embedded into who they were as people— A terrible curse, some might say. But who could prove it…
Ominous narration and perhaps relevant details aside, here’s a couple things about the Caedes !
- Lucio Caede was the last official leader to their family clan, which disbanded when both his sons (Archer and Jonah) decided they didn’t want to manage territory that big with as few resources as they had. The redistribution for said territory happened kind of unofficially, given the big man wasn’t there to patrol everything and give orders to people. He probably writhed in his grave when it happened but nobody gives a shit he was a terrible fucking person <3
- Most, if not all people from the Caede family are blind in on their right eye, which earned them a big reputation for being cyclopses. For a long time no one knew what exactly caused them to be like that, so it was thought to be just a ritualistic rite of passage within the family. Nowadays, people don’t question it because there’s only 2 Alive And Relevant Caedes that are actually prominent, and as far as they care they’re just regular bandits and not anyone with a reputation to upkeep, so they don’t care either.
- They weren’t a big name anywhere outside the one specific area of southeast Pandora they were ruling, so once they moved the reputation that their name held kinda died alongside it. Everyone should be thankful for this.
- See the thing is. They are actually cursed for real by a vault beast called The Accursed. It happened several dozens of generations ago after one particular Caede Fucked Around with its vault and Found Out in the most Extreme sense of the word, and it still continues affecting them today. This doesn’t make them cool and they are mostly unaware it happens in general.
Symptoms of Curse include but are not limited to: Hallucinations, Extreme hyper-awareness, Heightened senses (in a way that fucks with your head and is usually not helpful), Paranoid behaviors, Hearing your dead family members shouting at you from beyond the grave, Having an incessant calling for human flesh, Acute tummy ache when you eat things that aren’t human flesh during periods of Craving, being unable to die unless its in the most painful possible way etc.
- Archer had control over this territory for approximately 3 days after Lucio died, but then he gathered up his brother, mother and some other close friends and decided to just fuck off and be a bounty hunter group in the wastes instead. The clan he belonged to (The Bloody Razors) got absorbed into other factions not too long after, which was probably for the best.
- The only reason why Archer never lost his eye but Jonah did is because he’s just so paranoid about survival the curse just never has an opportunity to mark him as a goner. Jonah fell perfectly into its hands, and it molded him into the kind of receptacle it needed to continue the cycle of its existence, but Archer keeps narrowly avoiding things by just planning extensively for every possible situation.
- He often worries this means a much worse ending is awaiting him, so he tries his best to be invincible by outsmarting date itself while it chases after him. Because hes so normal and regular and stuff (<- the nefarious OCD)
- They’re all so so normal. I prommy. You can approach them they’re just a regular ol family
