if baron flynt already had the vault key fragments, wouldnt it have been easier for jack to convince him to open the vault instead of hiring vault hunters to do it? is he stupid?

okay so! in my rewrite, grogmouth is working under baron’s orders when he kidnaps angel, and he brings her to thor. though everything after is still canon complaint. her parents still come looking and her mom still dies.
angel uses her phaseshift and the digistruct capabilities of the control core as “what could have been” wish fulfillment. she recreates places she sees on the satellite cameras and people she speaks to. she does this with the BL1 vault hunters as well (and jack, when she’s feeling vulnerable.) she’s playing dolls, essentially.
baron was the last person she met before being locked away, so she fixates on him pretty heavily. her “baron” represents the trauma of losing her mother and all of the resentment that comes with it. (what if jack died too, what if her parents never showed up, ect.) he is a very very bitter part of her.
this continues until the age of like. 15. “baron” tries to kill jack which causes him to tighten the leash on her phaseshift and she isnt able to mimic people anymore.
but i liked the idea of angel sticking with baron so i kept it in a more contained BL1 au where she never makes it off of thor and becomes a bandit.
their dynamic is very strained and ends up being more mentor-student than father-daughter. he initially was going to use her as a bargaining chip with atlas and his actions still result in her mother being killed. so they start off terribly.
BL1 happens a few years later. baron actually does his job this time and tries to prevent the vault from being opened because he worries abt the damage itll do to the planet. its becomes a three way war between the bandits, atlas, and the VHs, as pandora tries to defend itself from corporate exploits.
angel still keeps in contact with the BL1 VHs but instead of being a mysterious voice on the radio shes more like a kid shit talking them in a discord vc. its not a very serious au lmfao.

nadia - 2nd gen fleshripper! though her parents are both long since dead. she isnt involved in a lot of active fighting that her clan does and doesn’t leave the interior or the soaring dragon very often. she was one of the fleets navigators and got hell for it from flynt whenever they got caught in the flash freeze.
ruiz - old boat engineer that lived in the bay who is forced to run maintenance on the fleshripper’s ships. he goes along because the faster he can get them off of the glacier the faster that theyll leave them the hell alone. but he makes things Much worse when he tries to take more drastic measures to ward them off.
flyntlock - originally was a part of baron’s crew but pushed to the fleshrippers when he died instead of joining the bloodshots. may or may not be a straight up robot (?) instead of a cyborg like most of the other rippers. hes kind of third wheeling captains marriage. its a little embarrassing.
titania - meets hammerlock when she catches him out hunting and they are uhm. well they almost made it to being friends! almost. but she values the wants of her clan over him + the other residents of liars berg so when captain gives the order she starts knocking down doors. shes got a very direct way of thinking and though she acknowledges what the fleshrippers are doing is wrong, it doesnt stop her.
mutya flynt - sparky’s mama :(. outlives both her husband and her son and is in charge of whatever’s left of the fleshrippers when BL3 comes around though theyre not really pirates anymore. she has her men stick to the water because its far out of the COVs interest. shes in hyperion custody during borderlands 2 and misses most of the fighting. she also wants 2 attack zane with hammers.
jenny-mae hodunk (flynt) - politically engaged to sparky but they never make it to the wedding for. vault hunter reasons. was born and raised in the hodunk clan and took the absolute first chance she could to get out of there. shes moxxis niece! though shes young enough that she doesnt really remember her.
thinking about it. nisha was really the only person who walked out of hyperion unscathed.
wilhelm lost himself to his cybernetics. angel was bound within the control core. timothy lost his entire sense of self and was abandoned in the casino. rhys was used as jack’s vessel and even jack himself was digitized and parodied after his death. his office got turned into a fucking tourist trap.
but nisha lived and died on her own terms because of her connection to pandora. yeah, the vault hunters still kill her in the end, but the fight itself was for her own sport, not for hyperion.
if it was just about protecting jack’s interests, she would have never let the vault hunters touch lynchwood’s bank or the mines. she would have killed them the second they stepped foot into her town, but she didn’t. its why i think the ambush is such a miss on her character. she would have done it herself, win or lose.
but i also think it was only a matter of time until hyperion got her too. if jack had won in the end he would have turned on lynchwood as well. there are no exceptions to fascism. and nisha would have fought back because, like jack, she holds her personal ideals above whatever love they might have had.
