Jessje had asked for folks to draw rusalkas for her comic (half lady, half some-kind-of-sea-creature). I decided to do a sort of angler fish rusalka, mainly because I wanted to draw some whacky teeth.
More messing around! This time with the only page of the 50’s dragon slaying kids comic that I had 100% inked. Just wanted to slap some colours on so I could stop staring at it on my desk. Although doing that at 5 AM might not have been the best idea. HM.
Elliot moves to new town > new town has a dragon problem > kids fight dragons even though they’d really much rather go to the drive-in > Elliot probably gets to play the damsel-in-distress because he is such a nervous guy and no one can have nice things

Last year for 24 Hour Comic Day, I was doing a comic version of a dream I had! I came down with a nasty cold that same day though and ended up having to give up 13 pages in. Anyways, 8 or so months later, I finally got around to finishing what I had done (save for 2 pages that I never got around to inking).
It’s only called “It’s Dark” because that phrase that stuck out to me while brainstorming this.
Basically the whole story after this point is Meri meets a dragon lady who tells her she needs to leave, because human blood poisons this world, and they’re already trying to find Lou who had vanished into the forest (and was already killing it just by being there). Meri refuses because she needs to find Lou and the dragon can’t exactly eat her without poisoning herself, so she enlists one of her sons to help Meri. HIJINKS ENSUE except not really because they have a small window of time to find Lou and get home before everything dies, so not enough time for real shenanigans.
Also the bakery is called Dawn of the Bread, which I am pretty sure poupon suggested.
Originally the apartment in the dream was actually an old, abandoned dance studio that was being turned into an apartment, but I found it too difficult to draw on account of the fact that it had the mirrors still.
Oh, also here is that last panel because I like how it came out? I am not really any good at digitally painting anything in any capacity, and using weird colours? What even. So doing something I am even mildly proud of is kind of shocking!
Ciaran and I did illustrations for this fairytale anthology for a small press company called Pink Narcissus, and now it is available for preorder! 384 pages, 31 stories, and 23 b&w illustrations. I really recommend preordering a copy, as the stories are really well-written and totally worth it.
Another drawing of the same girl from last night. I had actually drawn this at the same time, but I was quite literally falling asleep at the keyboard and was having trouble being at all coherent.
Just a quick doodle. I’ve been reading for three days straight and literally have done nothing else! Welp. There went my productivity streak.
Spring is hard to draw! But I have also drawn her only enough times to count on one hand, so haven’t really gotten used to her. She either has her hair up or it’s huge and bushy, though I haven’t really settled on which is her “default” ‘do. Or really settled on her design either. Eh.
