I’m not sure if I’ll ever get to finishing this, but since the flat color version looks good, I figured I may post it alone.
I don’t get to play Morhault all that often, sadly, because Herald
doesn’t get to be much useful these days, but out of all my charr, his
design is probably the one I’m most satisfied with. Visually, that is.
Wouldn’t change a thing. He does look a bit like a Dead Space cosplayer
from behind tho…

So, I have to clear my conscience a bit. I hate the idea of mounts in Guild Wars.
The original game didn’t need them, the terrain wasn’t built for the usual mounts scenario (too much verticality), and all the experience I had from other MMOs (WoW and The Old Republic) were pretty shitty. People just summoned their carbon copy of your ride out of arse dimension and zoomed about with a speed upgrade, either running you over or ignoring you, to the point where the open world part of said MMO shrank to the commute between story missions and personal instances. Riding one is tiresome, too, because you just stop whenever you encounter something else than gentle elevation in the terrain, and the only use is literally outrunning mobs. And I hated the idea that Guild Wars would risk getting the same.
But then the mounts actually came and… they are great. Instead of a cheap tool they could have been, they end up feeling like they’re part of the world. Taking a ride on one is not just for commute, it’s genuinely fun. The animation as well as the sound design is brilliant, each beast differs in size and color, and it handles different than your own character to warrant the addition.
So no, the expac can’t come fast enough. I want my raptor back. It’s bloody adorable.
(But yeah, I’m still a bit worried, especially if custom skins happen. I’m tired enough of all the glittery legendary infusions shite beaming me blind and the giant flabby wings blocking half my screen whenever I go somewhere with more than two people in it.)
