Fun things I found in the Transistor audio files

This is a collection of audio files that were not used in the final cut of the game (as far as I know). I’ve collected the more coherent ones here to share because I think they’re interesting, entertaining, or otherwise noteworthy, and I hope other people can get something out of having them all in one easy-to-reference place.

I’m going to divide the lines up by where they would have taken place, and put them in the order in which you go through those locations in the story. There are way too many files (2k+) to upload easily, and I wouldn’t personally feel comfortable uploading a ton of them, but I will make some available and will link to them from the relevant lines. Links go to SoundCloud, and the lines are only accessible through those links. If anyone’s just dying to hear one of the lines I didn’t upload, I may add it by request.

Please note: these lines are not canon, since I’m pretty sure a lot of them, if not all of them, didn’t make it into the final cut of the game. It’s fun to see what changes were made, and what some early ideas might have been, but please don’t let this restrict your own headcanons and theories!

Something’s shifting in Royce, Grant knows. The boy of 18 with the piercing eyes who could barely speak is long gone, but even what the boy became - the man with a thousand dreams and plans and hopes - doesn’t seem to want to last. There’s a new intensity to the gaze, something deeper - but fractured, almost, or fracturing.

“They don’t see, they don’t want to see,” Royce says, pressing his fingers together in patterns that Grant can’t follow, his cigarette half-burned in his lips. “They want change, of course they do, but what they want the… change to be, well, they just want change, that’s all, change for its own sake…”

Grant nods, of course, murmurs agreement as he sips his coffee, but he can’t quite look away from Royce. It’s a subtle shift, but he sees the sea-change in Royce coming, the new wave, and he wonders if Royce sees it too.

“There are… patterns,” Royce says, a frantic edge behind the slow cadence of his words. “There’s a, a meaning to it all. I can find it. I can find it.”

“I know you can,” Grant murmurs, and he wonders if he could find Royce’s pattern, if he tried, stop the change.

But instead he simply listens, and nods, and hopes that he’ll still understand whatever Royce becomes.
