“thanks for the food, kid, but as for the pest… it’s extremely annoying and overly attached to me. i don’t like being touched or approached without warning, it sets off my hunting instincts, and the bug just doesn’t get the picture that i don’t like that. so we’ve… had our differences.”
He looks uncomfortable with the recollection, looking away and scratching at a crack in his skull.
“…as for what it actually is, i can’t say. doesn’t have a magical signature of its own, seems sentient but can’t move far from aliza… and she suffers pain if its hurt in any way. my thinking is that it’s some kind of… defense mechanism, a manifestation created by aliza’s soul to help guide and protect her, until she knows how to use her magic herself. the attachment to me… heh… i assume its because of how much closer we are.”
He smiles wanly, shrugging one shoulder.
“it’s not her fault the thing likes me, and she seems unable to actually control it at this juncture, so i do my best to just put up with it. besides… it’s not always unpleasant, if i can see it coming; it has a kinda soothing aura. almost feels familiar.”
He chuckles quietly, shaking his head and touching his locket unconsciously.
“just my imagination, though.”
