Dopamine Week: Lord Winterscale Edition
This Dopamine Week, I’d like to focus on a character that is criminally underrepresented in fanfic and fanart - Calligos Winterscale. In particular, I would like to call out the absolutely magnificent, magical, and marvelous duo of @nadas-dirthalen and @infernaldaydreams for sharing in both art and literature the love story of Castilla von Valancius and Calligos Winterscale.
Haven’t heard of Castilla von Valancius? Please, please, please check out @infernaldaydreams ’s tumblr to see their absolutely glorious glamazon of a Rogue Trader. Arms for days. Pink hair (!). Immaculate gold face plate that makes her look like a Valkyrie out of some Frank Frazetta painting. A stunning creature from a stunning mind!
And then once you’ve got that image in your mind, join me in reading @nadas-dirthalen’s series, “I Know the Swtars and You By Name.” That’s about 20,000 words of what I know will be excellent prose. I’ve been dying to sink my teeth into it. One of the things that I love most about their writing is how easy it is to read. I don’t mean it in an elementary school type of way - no, their writing flows; its easy like a river running downstream.
My last little shout out to these two comes from the mad respect I have for author-artist duos. To be trusted with someone else’s OC is a magical thing. Whether the artist friend picks up the brush first, or the writer surprises with a gift, there’s something so unbelievably kind in lending your complimentary skill to bring someone else’s vision to life. It hammers home the beauty of fandom and the friends we make along the way - thank you both for being inspiring!
