Lyric: Reload, crash out
Annotation:
Reload the simulation and crash out of memory.

Lyric: This means war
 With your creator
 This means war
 With your creator
Annotation:
The creator represents those who created and/or are responsible for the simulations. To recognize the truth of the simulation, it means war with them, as the ultimate act of rebellion. The word “creator” also reminds of religious terminology: in this case, God is replaced by algorithms.

Lyric: Burn like a slave
 Churn like a cog
 We are caged in simulations
 Algorithms evolve
Push us aside and render us obsolete
Annotation:
This is the moment that the protagonist reaches consciousness. He feels abused. He feels prisoned. He now knows that his goal is frivolous. The first two lines comment on how people have become disposable and individuality has been lost; we are cogs in a machine. The use of simulation implies a superficiality to the lives we lead and the word ‘caged’ invokes the feelings of powerlessness and highlights that we are being deceived against our will. In the next lines of this stanza, the reason for this is explored. The algorithms evolving imply that artificial intelligence has superseded us in some way, as we can no longer evolve, biologically speaking. Becoming obsolete means that we are now less developed, lacking, and as a result, outdated. Overall, it is lamenting the human spirit fading away and potentially being extinguished. A world like this would be nothing but a simulation; a deceptive imitation.
