I saw Julia Montauk’s name misspelled as Montork in a fanfic. I’m not meaning to criticize this person; I just think this is a really cool thing linguistically. (I’m dead serious about not meaning to criticize here. I really do think this is totally interesting. Trust me. I’m like this about linguistics.)

In “A Father’s Love”, Jon pronounces her name [mɑn.tɔ:k] or something close to it. The first syllable rhymes with Jon, the second with talk if you’re from Southern England*. (Ignore the underlines, no idea why they’re there.) He really does sound like he’s saying Montork and dropping the r. That’s because he’s lengthening the vowel, at least a little, which only happens before an r would be written there.

And that sound in (Jon’s) law does sound like an o, so Montork it very well could be.
