I think it’s starting to seem like a farther reach to say ‘Jon’s stupid’ than 'Jon’s in denial’. Why? His accent.

Jon’s got the poshest Oxford academic accent ever. His accent says book-smart. As in, you know, a person who believes in science and is a learned, stuffy academic. So, not someone dumb. But yes, someone academic and proper who certainly wouldn’t believe in the supernatural, oh no.

His accent is the ultimate academic accent. That’s literally the stereotype of academics—being skeptical to the point of denial.
