Hello prev have you ever heard of a game called slay the princess. Because this is heavily inspired by slay the princess. It’s not a stp au but it will be easier to explain if you know stp akdhdkdj (I will explain anyway if u don’t) (but also play stp)
I’ve heard of it. It’s on the “things I wanna check out one day” list but unfortunately that list is. Long. And also whether or not my brain wants to do a New Thing on any given day is down to the phase of the moon, the alignment of the stars, and the flight patterns of butterflies in southern Australia so it’s sort of anyone’s guess if/when that will ever happen…
Yeah no that’s fair my watch list is longer than homestuck at this point. One of these days. How cool are you with spoilers because some details of the au are definitely heavy spoiler territory. I can leave the more spoiler details under a cut if u like?

Okay I can do that! Let’s go ok. I am tentatively calling this au Slay The Archivist. I swear it’s not just a one to one of Slay the princess.
Sasha becomes aware of herself to the sound of a woman narrating her. She will later learn this woman is none other than Gertrude Robinson, but at the time she has no idea. She’s told “You’re on a path in the woods. And at the end of that path, is a house. And in the basement of that house is a library. And in that library, is The Archivist. You’re here to slay him. If you don’t, it will be the end of the world.”
Its a time loop! Whoo! Sasha (though she doesn’t remember thats her name) and Jon (though whether or not he remembers that’s his name will be left up to interpretation) have been put into some sort of entity construct. Jon is fully The Archivist at this point. Gertrude pulled a micheal and put Sasha in a construct with him to kill him and disrupt the ritual. Maybe this is during the fearpocalypse and this is a domain, I have yet to decide. It’s foggy rn I’m working on it. But ok getting to the point:
Gertrude puts Sasha in some sort of time loop construct with Jon to kill him. This is to prevent the end of the world, or maybe to reverse it, or something. But point is she’s trying to stop the end of the world. I’m still working out logistics on Gertrudes end , but I’m thinking she never became the archivist and either stuck to other areas of the institute and learned that way, or never joined the institute and had other methods of attacking the supernatural.
Gertrude puts them in this specific construct as an attempt to make it simple. Sasha here is not Sasha, or at least she’s not supposed to be, just someone very capable of killing the archivist. This construct by nature fucks with their identity and memories. However when you try to fuck with someone’s identity like that, it splinters. You can’t just take something out of someone. Instead Sasha has several different “voices”, that are different parts of her that were attempted at being removed but instead couldn’t be. Jon, as a result of the construct, morphs to be what people Fear he is, albeit other methods of perception are also there as well. But also. He’s the archive of all fear. It’s mostly fear.
Depending on what Sasha does in each loop, he changes. When one of them dies, the loop resets. On sashas end of it it’s to give another chance to kill the archivist. On jons end it has to be either “sasha believes he’s not dead/is scared he’s not dead” or one of the voices gets to the void that happens if jons dead and goes Oh Fuck This. And decides to die. What part of Jon is showing heavily depends on how she treated him / any little choice she made. It also is influenced by the fears he’s reflecting/what she was scared about / THOUGHT he’d do. Etc etc. He is the living archive of all fear and he will act like it.
In the spaces between each loop ending, Sasha meets Jon. He is The Archivist but also not Jon but also yes. No. He’s the parts left of Jon, that the bits got stolen from to make people for Sasha to talk to and kill. He asks for Sasha to bring back new parts of himself, so he can be whole, and find what was taken for them. So they can get out of whatever this construct is.
Their relationship is. So complicated. So so so complicated. They connect so well but they also are in an inherently awful situation and there’s a lot there. They can get out of the cabin together. But that is very very complicated and means actually working on shit and well. Again. Inherently awful situation. Inherent Dynamic.
Goddd there’s so much there. I am gnawing on my own bones. I am thinking of when Jon and The Archivist are fully merged again. I am thinking of that final confrontation where they’re trying to decide what to do and how to get out. At the end of the day the choice comes down to the same thing it was in the beginning: would sasha like to slay the archivist, set him free, or leave him?
It of course is a million times more complicated than that. There are many possible endings. This is the basic jist. I need to think more about Sasha and get a better grip of her characterization before I write anything but GODDD the jon lines for this au in my brain are so good. You don’t even know. There’s some Princess lines that are just. He Would Fucking Say That. And I need to apply them to him. Or I’ll die!
