Hey @call-of-the-ocean thanks for showing me the light and helping me appreciate this incredibly rich & fascinating character! We need SO MUCH MORE Basira appreciation in this world.
not pictured: martin and a handful of worms, probably
[Image description: Digital fanart of Jonathan Sims from The Magnus Archives in a limited green palette. He is pictured from the waist up, facing the left at a ¾ angle. He is a medium-deep skinned person with dark, greying curly hair worn in a shoulder length half-up half-down style. He has dark eyes and is looking judgmentally down and to the right over his glasses. He is wearing a light button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows and a slightly darker tie, loosened. He is holding a stack of papers in his hands. The background is dark, and he is surrounded by an amorphous haze. End ID.]
do you ever get incandescently furious about how utterly unquotable some of the most hard-hitting lines from the magnus archives are. how the fuck do i explain to someone without context why i—open—the door is legitimately horrifying. how am i supposed to explain why “i see you, jon. …i see you” can elicit tears without sounding batshit. how do i convey the unspeakable emotion in “helen… was that a lie?” without first giving 186 episodes of backstory
absolute bangers people are mentioning in the notes:
can i have a cigarette?
the blanket never did anything
she took him from me. made us a me. and she doesn’t get to die for that
there is a wasp’s nest in my attic
i got eaten by worms because of you!
look at the sky, martin. look at the sky.
i don’t want to just survive!
i am not a brave man, but i am, in certain circumstances, a very stubborn one.
i really loved you, you know?
ceaseless watcher,
the audience is only safe when the story isn’t about them
hello, jon.
absolute bangers people are not mentioning in the notes:
[Image description: A hips-up digital portrait of Gerard Keay from The Magnus Archives in a limited palette of oranges and charcoal greys. He is a white man with long, poorly-dyed black hair with ashy blonde roots. He is looking down disdainfully, presumably at a burning Leitner. His eyes are made up with dramatic black eyeshadow on the lower lashline and he is wearing black lipstick. He is wearing a ripped shirt, long coat, and dark trousers. In his left hand is a lit match and in his right is a bottle of lighter fluid labelled “Burnitol”. His joints are tattooed with small stylised eyes. The background is dark and filled with stylised flames. End ID.]

[Image description: A waist up digital portrait of Agnes Montague from The Magnus Archives in a limited burgundy and orange palette. She is a red-haired white woman with freckles and dark eyes wearing a dark scarf and mid-toned coat. She is looking over her shoulder at the viewer with a sad smile on her face. From her eyes come the steam of real tears and rivulets of melted wax simulating tears. She says “Thank you.” End ID.]

“The moaning had stopped. The only sound was the creaking of hinges as the lid of the coffin began to move. It was slow, the gap appearing first as just a crack, before finally opening completely. It was too dark to see what was inside at first, but when I shone my torch inside, I heard Zack gasp. I think I did as well.
Inside of that wooden coffin, there was a staircase. It went down, apparently into the ground below, and seemed to go on as deep as I could see.”
Thank you! I always enjoy writing a bit of daisira! <3

She finds Daisy in Artifact Storage, looking at the coffin. No, Basira decides, not looking at. Watching the coffin, with the wary hostility of a creature that isn’t sure whether it’s predator or prey. The pale yellow wood is soundless, motionless. Inert, wrapped in its chains. It’s supposed to be behind two locked doors as well, but Daisy’s never been prevented by things like that.
“All right?” Basira asks. She wants to make a joke, something about if you needed a nap that badly or how it’s probably more comfortable than their camp bed, something to lighten the mood. She can’t much find it in her these days, though, and when it comes to the coffin she has no idea what to say.
Daisy never talks to her about what it was like. Pretty awful, she said once, and after that avoided the subject like the plague. Basira suspects she talks to Jon about it, because he was in there with her, because he gets it in a way Basira never could, and she knows the twisted knot of jealousy in her stomach is ridiculous, but that doesn’t do anything to dispel the sour bile of it.
“Sixteen years,” Daisy says, quietly, her voice something between a whisper and a growl. Her hands are hanging at her sides, nails clenched into her palms, and when Basira touches her shoulder she can feel the tension wound up tight.
“What’s that?”
“It’s the 24th. That’s the day Zack—” She stops, huffing a breath through her nose. Basira lets her fingers curl around Daisy’s shoulder, the nape of her neck.
“There’s nothing you could have done,” she says. Daisy shakes her head.
“I know that,” she snorts, as if Basira’s being patently ridiculous. “Only…” She goes quiet, glaring down at the coffin’s placid yellow form. Basira waits, and after a while it comes: “I almost never think about him, except on this date. I should. Someone should think about everyone trapped in that place, but they don’t. Life just goes on.”
“Until it doesn’t,” says Basira, and it’s not much of a joke but Daisy laughs anyway, sharp and fast. Some of the tension drains from her shoulders and she leans into Basira’s hand on her shoulder, just a bit.
“Come on,” she says, turning away from the coffin. “I’ll buy the first round and we can drink to Zack and all the rest of them. Best we can do.”
It’s not much, but the best they can do never seems to be these days.
this palette said bi rights and i’m here for it. here is a little flustered jon!!
[ID: Art in a limited color palette of Jon Sim. The color palette uses saturated hot pink, dark blue, and warm purple. Jon is a thin brown man with long hair wearing a crop top. He rubs the back of his head with a bashful smile. The background is a bi flag with wobbly boundaries between stripes. End ID]
Anybody ever think about… how Gertrude knew what happened to Gerry’s dad, but never told him? 😔😤
ID: A digital drawing of Gerry Keay from the Magnus Archives. The drawing is overlaid and backlit with teal tones. Gerry is a white man with dyed black hair with blonde roots. He is wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, and has dark eyeshadow and dark lipstick. He has numerous piercings in his ears and nose, as well as a stud through his lip and one through the bridge of his nose. He has black eye tattoos on the joints in his hands and down his spine. He is seated at a table, reading a book with pages that are various shades of brown. On the table is a loose pile of documents with the Magnus Institute header, as well as a green ashtray with a lit cigarette, and a metal lighter with an eye design.
Text above him reads: “I always thought I’d find him in here, but when I looked, he didn’t have a page.”
Happy Anniversary! (I'm very late, I know). If you're still taking prompts, can I request Jon and Martin one year after they land somewhere else? Thank you so much <3
I am basically always taking prompts, honestly! I still have quite a few to get through, but this one jumped the queue because I was looking for an excuse to write something for the anniversary of the finale. So thank you for the excuse! :3

For weeks leading up to it, Martin debates whether to say anything. Jon hasn’t mentioned anything about it, and he would have if he remembered, no question, so maybe it’s better not to remind him. It’s not exactly a nice anniversary, even if it gave them a whole new start; there was an awful lot of blood and pain and world-shattering horror involved, and for Jon, the terrible guilty grief of visiting the Fears on a multitude of worlds. That guilt and grief still keep him up some nights (it’s getting better, but Martin doesn’t think it’ll ever leave him entirely) so maybe it’s for the best if he’s forgotten.
This was my piece for a little event we had on the TMA Latino server!
We had to choose a moment we liked in the podcast n Damaris was kind enough to suggest doing Jon’s sisles guacheando so here it is!! Took me ages but it’s finally done ;v;👍
