NAH U KNOW WHAT YEAH. I GOT. A THING. HANG ON

im just gonna talk about basira for a sec

I don’t, I don’t really know why I’m here. I mean, I know how I got here. All the decisions I made, until suddenly: yep, this is my life! But not the why. Not really. Does that make sense?

philosopher. comic. icon

Everyone seems to be having a much worse time of it than me, but I was meant to be the hostage. It’s amazing how much you can ignore when you keep your head in a book.

i have talked around this line before without talking about it, directly, but like. basira’s endless ability to curate information is so interesting and like… pretty unique? because even in georgie’s case, she simply isn’t getting the same uh. cognitive inputs. as everyone else. but in basira’s, she will blink, and take a breath, and turn her head away, and because she’s so convinced of her ability to shut something out, she will simply succeed. like. whoa

He always said, if you don’t like something, you accept it and you adapt, or you fight and you change it. Whining doesn’t help. I always tried to live like that. But I think sometimes you feel like you’re adapting, but it’s just denial.

ok this is also super interesting because. i would sorta disagree that it’s “just denial” in her case, because as i’ve just said like. she is pretty successful (arguments can of course be made that all that suppression is going to lead to deleterious effects for her that we don’t necessarily see or tease apart in canon). i’ve always really liked this mention of her dad too because it kinda illustrates the way that she, like anyone else, is a product of how she was raised/has lived and been treated (similar to how daisy (and trevor and julia, but that’s a separate post) learned violence as a language, jon learned to resent his own existence, martin learned he’s extraneous, tim is a big brother before he’s most other things, jonahlias learned that fear controls, etc, etc, etc). she was taught “get on with it” and she learned “get on with it”.

But at least Daisy’s coming. I mean, I know she’s… difficult. Everything they say about her, it’s true, it’s fair. But, she’s solid. She’s a… a fixed point, and if she’s there, I know exactly where I stand, exactly what I’m doing, relative to her.

she said this. im not gonna comment but like. basira did very much say this. im just. she said this

I guess, I guess we’re all just gonna have to do what we can, and see what comes out the other side.

also yeah as has been said this is such an interesting parallel to martin’s pragmatism bc like. she says this and then this is literally exactly what she does. bwoah
