Here and then I think about Elias being a genuinely boring person to 99% of the world by the time it’s the 2000s and all his circle of Good Society Gentlemen Horny for their weird Academic friend obsessed with Ghosts Stories are dead.

Not just boring, but easily dismissed, as well (“waste of a suit”), (“A dull little man” // “Gertrude was the one who scared me”).

And I don’t know, it always drives me a little insane in the BEST way. I love it. I love that his little joys in life are spreadsheets, filing, The Horror Stories of Other People that Are Not Him Thank You, and cake. I love that he is mild, that he looks utterly inoffensive, that he’s passive and only shows glimpses of how Cruel and /how much he enjoys being Cruel/ in very specific situations (1. i have all the power and everybody in the room knows, 2. They want to see an evil man i’ll show them an evil man 3. EVERYTHING I WORKED TOWARDS FOR CENTURIES IS SET INTO MOTION I AM WINNING)

It makes it extra tasty, with that additional external point of view from characters, that Jon explicitely says that Elias is the most knowledgeable man he knows when it comes to paranormal: Jon actively seeked out Elias enough to be aware of that. It’s also delicious to have him say “Elias is a hard man to pin down” because it means that Jon RECOGNIZES that Elias is not just his boring, inefficient superior; that there are myriads of other things he’s yet to uncover about him and all.

I think it’s nice for us all boring people to have represention in villainy. I said it over on bluesky and all but I know in my heart his perfectly tailored three-piece suits are all different shades of grey (Ah,,), except for the black ones that are for fancy events, and the “extravagant” navy blue ones for “fun” events like Institute parties.

he has inside jokes with himself with his cufflinks and that’s basically it.

So, I made a regency era uquiz earlier, and I hope it’s not too hard (and that it works properly. I’ve never made a uquiz before, and my test run seemed fine? But I still worry lol). Anyway, here it is for anyone who may be interested!

Bro, my unyielding loyalty towards you is totally normal and healthy, I swear. It’s just that it’s definitely my duty to rip out your enemies throats with my bare teeth. You are the love of my life and I am your most valuable tool. Each night, I fantasize about dying in your arms, covered in blood, and then I close my eyes one final time, satisfied because I can feel your fingers on my face as I take my last breath. Haha anyways

Fandom needs less representation for tops who are selfless and “just like helping their partners feel good and explore their desires” and more representation for tops who are embodying the Nine Inch Nails “Closer”/Depeche Mode “Soothe My Soul” vibes in terms of being a broken trembling husk of a person who is grounded and made whole and purified by someone else willingly absorbing the brute force of their need. That’s just my opinion, man.

S3 is obviously the jonelias season, as far as TMA goes, so much so they weren’t allowed to have more than one scene per season afterwards cause the chemistry was burning our ears (at least that’s what I assume is the very real and concrete and logical discussion that happened in the recording room), but that can’t stop me from constantly remembering the crumbs we got afterwards and how insane they were

  1. You know the thing where Peter mentions Elias a thousand times before Elias finally acknowledges that he even exists? That but Elias is constantly discussing Jon with other people in S4 but Jon does not mention him AT ALL until after the whole Feeding Reveal and - and i know i repeat myself, okay, I know i must be so annoying about it, but like, genuinely, seriously, this is what Jon does, with his alloted “talking about elias time”: he says he’d hoped Elias would have advice on how not to feed from people’s trauma. Jonathan Darling Sims, the man you ARE. I love you so much.
  2. I love Jmart ok, I do, and S4 is their season, if anything, and EVEN SO, in the episode where Jon is running to save Martin, the very same Jon who had Martin’s name on his lips the whole season (hell the whole podcast, but, yknow), the moment he is in the Panopticon there’s a pause. “How?” he asks. “Suffice to say I called you” answers Elias (oh the mindlink of it all that never was, nnGH) and then “My, you have grown. A masterpiece, isn’t it?” “Yeah, it is.” (BEHOLDING KINK-) and theeen “That’s your…body?” AND THEN the whole discussion where Elias is like “if you harm it it wouldn’t go well” and jon is like “maybe it’d be worth it” and I just. JON IS HERE TO SAVE MARTIN; JON HAS BEEN THINKING ABOUT MARTIN THE WHOLE SEASON; and in this one scene, this one moment, Elias is the one who has to remind him of Martin.
  3. Admitedly I recall S5 the least, but I’d be remissed not to mention that Martin wants to kill Elias soooo much more than Jon (the martinelias of it all is for another post). HOWEVER, Jon is angry, which is logical coz, you know, Elias did steal his voice and agency and put in on the path of monsterhood just so that he could do that and they could “end the world together” so like. Your Feelings Are Valid, Jonathan. NONETHELESS, The fact that Jon was thinking of Elias and being so angry against him that it triggered more of his power and made him see the Cabin for what it was??? That the Eye was like “hey darling, you’re not home yet, come on” and that’s what starts Jon and Martin’s journey to the Panopticon? I’m sorry, but it’s BASICALLY “Suffice to say I called you” all over again.
  4. The fact that Jon cannot actually see Elias the whole time because “a pupil cannot see inside itself” or whatever the line is.
  5. “Agonized bliss”. “Then why did you heed the call?” “Because that’s where I belong.” (scratching at the walls at this point)
  6. “G.O.O.D. L.U.C.K.”

Keep thinking of Jonelias and turning up the gothic elements to x1000 than they already are in canon, and somehow it always ends up in my mind with Jonah still having his Scottish family house/manor, and getting Jon there, and then Shenanigans.

In my head, it’s mid-season 2, Jon’s off rails, in a beautiful way, for sure, but Elias has also had a lot of thoughts on his side ever since he hesitated, watching Jon getting eaten by worms, pulling the trigger early. So it’s almost a test for himself and for his Archivist when as “punishment” for Jon’s behaviour, he tells him he’s sending him on a very specific mission in Scotland, to Jonah Magnus’s old house, to gather and archive the documents there as the Institute is thinking of turning it into a museum or an extended branch or something.

Jon, of course, is furious (and secretly relieved, for a brief moment, because the paranoia DOES tend to lessen whenever he’s away for a bit of the Institute and his coworkers, coughnot!sashacough) but it’s not like he’s got much choice, beyond quitting or being fired, and when he asks if his assistants are coming with Elias is like “don’t be ridiculous, Jon, they need to take care of things here and you’ll agree with me you all need some time apart. You’ll do a reconnaissance of the house and its content, as it is, and I’ll join you myself in a week or two. You should have all amenities available there, excepted perhaps the Internet - but phone service should be fine, so we’ll be able to keep in touch if you need anything.”

And then he gets into the house, so quiet, so old, but kept in order, clearly; the phone service is actually terrible; the bed he sleeps in (“Jonah’s bedroom,” Elias tells him when he does manage to call him) is comfortable, but the room is often cold; and here, as well, just like in the Archives, he keeps being WATCHED. And it’s not the only odd thing that happens - that one he’s almost used to, now. But it’s the letters; the weird objects; the noises at night; the old fashioned clothes filling the wardrobe one morning instead of his own clothes; the way his car won’t start after four days; etc. etc.

(Something something something, breathing life into another of Jonah’s attempt of living beyond death, getting a nostalgic shade of the monster who already loves him and sent him here for judgement, and who decides that Jon would, in fact, make for a proper spouse,,)
